...to not entirely understand MN....?

PuppyMonkey · 21/02/2008 19:49

I mean the Scuttlebugging, FLY things mostly. And the thing where they always make a song out of fruit and veg.

..But also how I always manage to kill stone dead every thread I go on.

Is there a manual somewhere?

OP posts:
Wotzonked · 21/02/2008 21:07

It is very hard in a forum to explain it all...
do stick around if you want to, MN can be very helpful at times and has helped many people.

The longer you are here the more you'll like it, its a bit like learning to ride a bike, soon you won't be able to get off!

Then one day you can get a buss pass out.

Lulumama · 21/02/2008 21:09

did my email ever arrive, wotz?

Wotzonked · 21/02/2008 21:10

No and you didn't go in junk either. So sorry.

I'll email you. Its sorted now I think anyway.

ingles2 · 21/02/2008 21:10

I kinda agree with you 2specialgirls. I don't understand most of MN, especially the cliquey stuff. AND I don't understand Cods post either!
When I saw your thread, I thought fantastic, a few things answered here. And then Desi and wotz comes along and posts that.and I think.. WHAT! it's that kind of sniggering amongst friends posts, that makes everyone else feel out of the loop.

Lulumama · 21/02/2008 21:14

oh well, importnat thing is that all is well x

Desiderata · 21/02/2008 21:14

I'm certainly not making fun of you, twospecial.

My remark was aimed at everyone and no-one, and had context. If I went around the boards generally calling everyone cunts, I think I would have been banned by now!!

Stick around, as Wotz said, and you'll soon come to understand the nuances on here. It's great fun, and a great help. It's even been a life-saver before now.

twospecialgirls · 21/02/2008 21:15

well said ingles2

Desiderata · 21/02/2008 21:20

Yes, well said, ingles!

Wotzonked · 21/02/2008 21:21

I posted that because Desi thinks I am stalking her from a thread about a zillion years again. Get a grip

I hardly ever speak to anyone here. I know lulu because we have been at a MN meet up together. Why am I having to explain myself I am not sure.

I posted something before I said the thing TO Desi.

ingles2 · 21/02/2008 21:22

Thanks 2special
I don't think you're making fun of anyone Desi, and I don't think anyone is on MN really. but have you never stood on the periphery of a group at school or in an office Desi. If you're not involved, you are very aware of that and it doesn't make you feel that great. Obviously there are some very confident posters on here, who have a great group of friends, which is fantastic and the whole point of MN.. but there should be a thread for new/ish posters to establish their own group of friends without being overtaken by those in the know!!!

Wotzonked · 21/02/2008 21:23

I'm off to see who Philip Glenister is

Lulumama · 21/02/2008 21:24

so two people ahve a bit of an aside, and you thikn they are pushing you out?

wabbit and i had a bit of banter lower down the thread too

it is normal for MN ! and the more you are here, the more you will get to know the posters, the style some post in etc..

it is not about pushing people out, if you have a bit of a chat with somoene else on a thread

like if you are at a mums and tots, and someone drops in and out of the conversation , it is not about cliques, just about people chatting to others....some of us know each other well, and not others

twospecialgirls · 21/02/2008 21:26

wotzonked no one asked you to explain yourself !!!

OracleInaCoracle · 21/02/2008 21:27

the best way to navigate mn is just to get stuck in. join as many threads as possible and just get to know people. when i joined 18m ago i found the bar invaluable, really got to know people and got some good advice. i consider most mners friends now, but, like starting a new school, you do have to work a little bit to make new friends.

twospecialgirls · 21/02/2008 21:28

no i never ment pushed out on this thread !!!!!! ment on mn in general and me not getting it i know people have chats i dont think im that important that everyone should only talk to me but as you said relativly new so when someone comes on to a thread and calls everyond a cunt how am i to know its a joke !!!!!! i dont think iabu to mention it !

Tnog · 21/02/2008 21:28

It just gets easier the longer you're around.

Eventually you'll start to make connections with people, pick up the 'in' jokes and learn to go with the ebb and flow of the forum.

Breaks are essential, I'd say, to keep a bit of perspective and always try to keep your sense of humour and not take things too seriously.

twospecialgirls · 21/02/2008 21:29

i post on lots of threads btw im not shy

Lulumama · 21/02/2008 21:29

fair enough, but the more time you are here, the more you will understand that some posters have very different senses of humour

just stay, enjoy, don;t overanalyse!

twospecialgirls · 21/02/2008 21:30

tnog i think your right but to be honest from a screen i some times cant tell when someone is joking

Desiderata · 21/02/2008 21:32

I kind of see your point, Igles, without ever understanding being on the periphery. I just take life by the throat. It's the only way to do it.

I made a joke and it wasn't appreciated by a couple of people. Shit happens.

But PM started an AIBU thread. That's open season, I'm afraid

But yes, I broadly support a newbie topic, where you can all get to know each other before you launch yourself into the nest of vipers. Why don't you raise it with MNHQ?

Tnog · 21/02/2008 21:34

I know what you mean, things don't always translate well onto a screen, nuances are lost and people can feel confused by someone's post and that can lead to hurt and sometimes anger.

Monkeybird · 21/02/2008 21:36

oh no - getting savaged by nests of vipers is much more fun

twospecialgirls · 21/02/2008 21:36

i dont get hurt because tbqh i really dont care what people think but it does confuse me as i think why would they say that !

Desiderata · 21/02/2008 21:41

But I've already explained why I said it.

The OP is asking AIBU for not understanding MN? In order to understand something, you have to embrace it.

For instance, Scuttlebugging (as mentioned in the OP) is just a group of lovely women having a chat. What's not to understand about that?

FLY is about a group of women who aren't very well organised with housework touching base with other women, and trying to help each other out.

And the fruit and veg thing is about healthy eating.

If you don't understand these threads, I can perfectly well understand why you wouldn't understand my post

twospecialgirls · 21/02/2008 21:50

ok i get these im not fecking dumb i can read !!!
im saying i dont get your daft random comments calling people cunts you must have realised that this thread was a newbie thread and if we didnt fully understand mn then we are def not gonna get being called a cunt and know its a joke are we !!
