I mean the Scuttlebugging, FLY things mostly. And the thing where they always make a song out of fruit and veg.

..But also how I always manage to kill stone dead every thread I go on.

Is there a manual somewhere?

RedJools · 22/02/2008 10:58

this post has made me feel soo much better!! I am a total newbie and really have that "walking into a bar and it goes quiet!" feeling whenever I even think about posting! I love reading the threads- everyone seems so funny and witty, but I just KNOW if I post, I will kill the poor little thread with my big clumsy post! And then I will feel irrationally sad! Watch this thread die now......

BumperliciousIsOneHotMother · 22/02/2008 10:58

Hee hee DG, you dirty hoaaar! Sometimes mnet is just that addictive!

Squonk you are right, I've spent over a year and a half building up this personna, that's a LOT of mnet hours, I'm not going to waste them!

DumbledoresGirl · 22/02/2008 10:58

BTW, I wouldn't look behind the computer screen to see what is there. If it is anything like my computer screen, the only life you will find behind there are the spiders in their cobwebs!

DumbledoresGirl · 22/02/2008 11:00

Hello RedJools! Any relation of JoolsToo? (a Mner I have not seen around for months now - in fact I think she changed her name....sigh)

lottiejenkins · 22/02/2008 11:02

Im being thick here,,,,,,,,,,, what is FLY?

Cam · 22/02/2008 11:05

Good question

Cam · 22/02/2008 11:06

Or

WHY is FLY

PuppyMonkey · 22/02/2008 11:07

RedJools, I thought this entire thread would die a death and look at it now! You carry on posting my dear!

BecauseImWorthIt · 22/02/2008 11:09

DumbledoresGirl - have you been away for a while? Don't seem to have seen you posting recently?

PuppyMonkey · 22/02/2008 11:09

FLY is, I have now learned, something about getting all the housework done and decluttering your life.

Though how any of them get any housework done when they're chatting on that thread all day, I cannot answer.

OP posts:
DumbledoresGirl · 22/02/2008 11:11

I can't work out if FLY is for the terminal house-sluts (it advocates doing 10 minutes bursts of housework - surely most fit and able people can work for longer than that?) or for those who are bordering on obsessiveness (I am sure there is something in it about cleaning your sink everyday).

There you go, I will have upset them all once way or another.

RedJools · 22/02/2008 11:12

no, no relation to JoolsToo!!! Feeling more like WhiteJools atm, as ds has just thrown up his feed all over me in a bid to get my attention!

DumbledoresGirl · 22/02/2008 11:13

BecauseImWorthIt, yes indeed, I have been on a course (full-time) since Christmas and have not had time to post. I must admit, when I first came back, I found nothing to post on and thought my Mumsnet days were done, but now it is half-term and I have time to lounge around the house, I seem to have found my way back

fryalot · 22/02/2008 11:20

there were a load of wires and cables behind the back of the computer. I can see a yellow ball in the sky though.... vaguely remember someone saying something about RL having a sun? perhaps I'll have to go out later and investigate...

steer clear of the fly threads - they'll have you cleaning!

BumperliciousIsOneHotMother · 22/02/2008 11:46

I think fly is for people who aren't naturally good at doing housework. It's a way of making it more palatable and easy to fit in to your life. I've checked in every now and then but I still can't get around to doing it. I can't think why?

BumperliciousIsOneHotMother · 22/02/2008 11:48

(That was a at my mnet addiction not questioning the FLYing ethos btw! I admire FLYers I really do. I wish I was motivated enough to do it)

VictorianSqualor · 22/02/2008 12:09

Crikey what a long thread.
AND ALL ABOUT NOTHING. Great.

Oh LL, those shoes are delightful.

BumperliciousIsOneHotMother · 22/02/2008 12:40

Shoes? Did I miss something?

"I think fly is for people who aren't naturally good at doing housework."

Is housework natural

whodoyouthinkyouare · 22/02/2008 13:18

see you all all getting along with it now - good

FlossieT · 22/02/2008 13:38

Gosh, that was a long one. Fortunately I am busy reinstalling software on my work computer after my hard drive died (only 5 months old, grrrr) so I have a good excuse. honest.

  1. Hello. I've been on MN since October last year but only really started posting in Jan. I'm still trying to figure it out (and wondering if that is possible without getting dangerously addicted. Facebook addiction was bad enough...)

  2. Have seen references to "bar" and "coffee shop" in here so have obviously missed something. Is there a sort of newbies' guide to where to go while you're acclimatising? I always seem to post on threads and get ignored so feel there must be some unwritten rules about what is and isn't OK. Or is it just that once you've been on here a while you naturally tend to noptice the things posted by people whose chat names you recognise?

  3. "Pages". Have seen tantalising references to it being possible to view threads without all this multi-page nonsense. Where do I go in my settings to change this? I had a good look through but couldn't spot it

DontDreamItBeIt · 22/02/2008 13:42

Try "cusomise talk board" at the top, and select mumsnet classic

FLY is for teminal house-sluts who spend more time chatting on here than is good for us.

FlossieT · 22/02/2008 13:47

Ooh, THANK YOU DontDreamIt

That is soooooo much better.

queenceleste · 27/02/2009 21:29

Tnogu are you there? I miss you!
Oh I've name changed, I'll leave something for you in culturevultures and hope you find it
