To ask how much your owe on your mortgage and your age?

Recently remortgaged and the massive rate rise got us thinking. Made me wonder - what is the average people owe? Yes it depends on area/value/when bought etc. But to make it simple I'd be interested in
A) how much owed
B) your age

I'll go first! We owe £115k and I'm 31.

About £145k and 40.

We're up for remortgage soon, we're currently paying £660 which is over £100 more since this time last year - and that's only on £60k as we ported part of our mortgage in 2021.

We'll weather it, it'll be fine. But still annoying.

Just because this popped up again thought I'd update - since then, our mortgage is now £880 per month. And part of it can still go up again as it's a tracker.

Cleared mine by 38. Will be 66 next birthday.

£114k, 42yrs.

Had we not moved last year, we'd have been mortgage free next year.

As of today we owe £94k, working hard to pay it off before our extremely cheap fix ends in 3yrs time.

House value around £375k, good sized house in good location in NW but a doer-upper. We've been ploughing money into the money pit renovation for the last 2yrs but have paused it to be mortgage free then continue the reno.

43yrs old, average earners, low outgoings. We've being paying mortgages for 21yrs.

I’m 47 and I’m yet to start my mortgage as I’ve been tied to the south east for my kids schooling, and as single parent I can’t afford more than a flat so I’m waiting to move back north. Hoping to get a 15yr mortgage, not too worried as pension lump sum will more than clear what’s owed by time I retire

HarryBlackberry1 · 27/08/2024 22:41

60k 51. I did have it paid off at 40, but had to buy my ex out...

Mama2many73 · 27/08/2024 22:45

Mortgage paid
53

(but never felt the urge to keep upgrading houses)
A friend 'complained' when I told her we'd paid our mortgage off (she was asking hiw much we owed), did we know how much hers was... I did point out that we don't have a garage, a drive, a utility room or a dressing room, it's all choices .
Ps I'd LOVE a utility room and a drive!
