Recently remortgaged and the massive rate rise got us thinking. Made me wonder - what is the average people owe? Yes it depends on area/value/when bought etc. But to make it simple I'd be interested in
A) how much owed
B) your age

I'll go first! We owe £115k and I'm 31.

Without LTV it’s pretty meaningless op

fwiw mid 30s, about 320k bit have quite a bit of that offset in ISAs as we’re still on a v low fix

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 15/06/2023 23:29

In London so that’s less than half of the value

Would much rather not have such a huge mortgage but I’m tied to this area for reasons

Highly likely if Labour win next election. Interest rates may seem high now but nothing like the 70's when mortgage rates were around 15% under the last true Labour Gov. (Blair doesn't really count because he didn't implement proper left wing Labour policies)

Utter rubbish. The economic circumstances of 40-years-ago bear no relation to current times. I’m guessing your comment is just a cheap jibe on behalf of the Tory party 🙄

PawsAndReflection · 16/06/2023 01:14

552k early 30's

Winecrispschocolatecats · 16/06/2023 01:28

£305k age 53, but that's about 25% of the value. Once our (low, fixed) mortgage rate comes to an end next year, we'll pay most of it down from cash on deposit, which is currently getting a much higher interest rate than the fixed rate mortgage is costing.

Mumuser124 · 16/06/2023 02:35

We were mortgage free at 36 & 37, but we live in NW and some of your remaining mortgages are more than the total value of our property (308k).
