To ask how much your owe on your mortgage and your age?

Recently remortgaged and the massive rate rise got us thinking. Made me wonder - what is the average people owe? Yes it depends on area/value/when bought etc. But to make it simple I'd be interested in
A) how much owed
B) your age

I'll go first! We owe £115k and I'm 31.

53, just under 5k, last payment will be Jan 2025. The early years I really struggled as a single parent and high intrest rates.

DadBodAlready · 15/06/2023 21:12

£0
49 & 53

Eh, how’s that? Do you mean with rates going up the amounts will be loads higher?

Highly likely if Labour win next election. Interest rates may seem high now but nothing like the 70's when mortgage rates were around 15% under the last true Labour Gov. (Blair doesn't really count because he didn't implement proper left wing Labour policies)

Airspice · 15/06/2023 21:20

£35k, house worth around £320k
I’m 52, luckily bought at the right time 27 years ago.

55
£398,000 (about 30% loan to value)
£295,000 (about 60% loan to value)

On a 5-year trajectory to pay off- what fun
Remortgaged in early 2023 on the advice of the bank at 1.75%

Good call on the remortage👏

HoneyIShrunkThePizza · 15/06/2023 21:23

£370k, 32. We are about to sink £220k into renovations rather than pay it down. But surely LTV/salary is more relevant? It is manageable for us.

DeedlessIndeed · 15/06/2023 21:25

£350K and 29

sgtmajormum · 15/06/2023 21:26

Mortgage paid off this week!

Age 34

Borrowed less than we could have, live in the North so slightly more affordable property prices.

TheHopefulMum · 15/06/2023 21:33

65k both early 30's

Justchatting06 · 15/06/2023 21:41

We plan to put down lump sums when we remortgage - monthly payments are standard 😄

No mortgage due to second time round for partner (60) wife took all equity and pensions (50%). I had mortgage with ex but due to my age now (50) and partners, will never qualify for mortgage. Rentals forever and I hate it. Jealous of you all!
