Things that irritate you

I know these threads get done a lot but I’m feeling irritable so here are mine (they’re not all rational, I admit)

People saying ‘myself’ and ‘yourself’ instead of me and you in an attempt to sound professional.

People starting posts with, for example, ‘dentist here’ or ‘solicitor here’ before giving their opinion. It just sounds really smug.

’good’ anything, eg ‘good butter’, ‘good bread’, ‘good chocolate’. Again so smug.

’crusty bread’ eg “serve with crusty bread and good butter” ARRGGH

The word ‘meal’ eg “I had just finished my meal”. I don’t know why. It just irritates me.

Groups of people standing chatting in the middle of the pavement or supermarket aisle not aware or giving a shit that they’re blocking it.

People talking through long yawns. Just yawn then talk ffs

Ridiculously loud exaggerated sneezes. In my experience almost always men.

"I borrowed him some money"
No. You lent him some money. He borrowed it from you.

PTSDBarbiegirl · 17/06/2023 10:03

Can't bear, "does that makes sense...... " or

Staffroom wanquers who speak in an unnecessarily loud voice with zero self awareness while everyone forced to listen to boring droll

TWAW

Surrogacy

Unrepresentative, misleading racial make up of TV adverts & programming

The rise of UK Fascism

Middle lane drivers. Stay on the left unless you are overtaking. ITS NOT HARD

THIS. It’s got much worse in recent years. It is sooo fucking annoying

Funkyslippers · 17/06/2023 12:42

My OH when he insists on rinsing his mouth out with water vigorously and noisily after brushing his teeth even though I've mentioned to him it's not good for your teeth to do that, and he knows it, but does it anyway

MavisMcMinty · 17/06/2023 12:44

Oh! Why isn’t it good for your teeth to vigorously rinse, @Funkyslippers ?

Royalbloo · 17/06/2023 12:45

You should leave the toothpaste residue on your teeth, not rinse and spit it out.

MavisMcMinty · 17/06/2023 12:57

Ah, thanks, didn’t know that!

Cakeandcoffeea · 11/11/2023 19:55

Agree on the “people blocking shops by chatting and not giving a shit”!

AhBiscuits · 11/11/2023 19:58

My husband always calls footballers by their first names when we're watching it on TV.
'Oh no Adam, how could you miss that, it was a tap in'

I was at the hairdressers this week & one client had several loud phone conversations then later her boyfriend came in and they had another loud private conversation (he was almost shouting over the noise of the hairdryer). All a bit weird and frankly annoying. Didn't seem to be about anything urgent, just normal chatting.

Geminicat · 11/11/2023 23:45

People who say, "yous" when referring to a group e.g. "I hope yous have a lovely time!" It is just YOU (singular and plural)! It totally gets on my nerves.

Hurrydash · 12/11/2023 10:14

Cyclists in Lycra on sports bike - especially ones who ride through red lights.

Cyclists in normal clothes on normal bikes are fine!

It's a regional thing.

People who have no idea about personal space.
Faffers
People who are late.

Yes, all of these :)

Conkersinautumn · 22/11/2023 09:39

I am a regular cyclist and I get very frustrated by cycles going through red lights and choosing to ignore the distance between cars, road markings, give way signs. I've had to stop my journey to give first aid to a ranting idiot who'd decided to ignore road rules then was furious that he had ended up slamming into the back of a car. I was very tight lipped with him, he wasn't even carrying his own first aid kit or water - ride like he did you'd better be prepared.

Great thread. Mine are “lived experience” what other kind is there? The American newscaster favourite “doubled down” as in “the senator doubled down today on his statement “strippers are an allowable expense” - sounds as if they are straining in the toilet! 😱

Fairospop22 · 22/11/2023 10:48

I was today years old when…

Furbaby

”This!”

When I want to vent and instead of just listening, they give me unsolicited advice, or even worse, unsolicited advice and their stupid story.

Hurrydash · 22/11/2023 12:17

People 'reaching out'

Consultants identifying 'low hanging fruit' or advising against 'boiling the ocean'

FFS who has ever tried that!

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 22/11/2023 12:34

People jumping onto Facebook etc to tell us their hearts are breaking for other people's tragedies when they're also trying to gain attention for themselves.

InaBitofaHurry · 22/11/2023 13:16

People who never ask questions about you, they just talk about themselves.

This!!

The difference in the enjoyment I get from 'conversations' had with friends who listen and from the one-sided experiences with friends who don't is sadly vast.

sammylady37 · 22/11/2023 13:23

Other people.
I spent yesterday on a guided tour. It was all explained clearly in the booking email, in the brochure given to everyone on board and in person by the guide. But yet, when we got to the first stop, where some people were disembarking and not continuing to the second stop, so many people sat there like gormless fools, asking “what’s happening?… do we get off here?…are we staying here?”
Those same people were part of a small group, and despite the majority of those on the guided tour not being part of this group, they talked loudly to each other for most of the trip, even standing up and shouting down the coach aisle at one another, with zero consideration for others on the coach.
And, guess which people were late for their pick-up??
