Do you shower twice a day on days you exercise?

Or can you manage to time it so that a post workout shower fits nicely into the rest of your day?

How do you work the timings?

I want to go to the gym tomorrow so will shower after, then go to a workshop tomorrow evening which means getting a bit grubby plus walking three miles so definitely will want to shower before bed after getting home. But my skin is so dry!

How do you arrange exercise and showering or do most people always take two showers on exercise days?

@ComtesseDeSpair ahahah, how long have you been desperate to crack all that out?

Most people shower once a day. After exercise though, yes. Not a hair wash though.

That is frustrating that it has worked out like that.
I don’t have time to exercise in the morning so I’ll do it in the evening and then have a shower then.

As long as it’s not a regular thing then I’d just have 2 showers on that day.

Having 2 showers a day regularly would cause havoc with your skin and would cause you to be a bit smelly which isn’t nice for people around you.

@TooJoy I'm 54, I shower 2x a day (sometimes more) and have done for the last 30 years, my skin is lovely thank you.

That’s great but you are obviously in the minority (or in denial).

Showering more than once a day for the majority would cause them to have bad skin and to smell.

KnitMePurlMe · 12/06/2023 20:28

@YinYogi and the fact that people don’t care is part of the problem of course 🤷‍♀️. We need to use less water in our increasingly dry world but you just crack on and fuck everyone else.

getonwithyourlife · 12/06/2023 20:28

Looks like you used 9M3 in 39 days? So approximately 9,000l which works out at 230 litres a day. How many of you live there?

Just me, but the bill before this was an estimate. I consistently use just under 40,000 litres a year which is well below average - according to Google.

getonwithyourlife · 12/06/2023 20:36

How did you work it out to be 230 litres a day? It’s about 100 - 110 litres a day.

The bill is from Feb 20 to June 6, it’s in two sections because they changed the price.

@TooJoy to smell? Don't be daft.

& don't accuse me of lying or 'being in denial'. My skin is soft & I don't need to lather it in moisturiser.

PoppedNotFried · 13/06/2023 00:15

I shower every morning.

I go to the gym on my lunch hour when working from home, so typically I’ll nip into the shower when I get back - I don’t do my hair, so it’s just a quick in and out.

getonwithyourlife · 13/06/2023 07:50

No worries @crabbyoldappletree I found it interesting to look into.

getonwithyourlife · 13/06/2023 07:55

It sounds a bit obvious to point this out but two very quick showers a day will use much less water than one long ten minute one.

tourdefrance · 13/06/2023 07:59

I shower after a morning run. And no shower before. That’s true whether my run is at 8am or 11am.

If I’m exercising in the afternoon/lunchtime I will have showered that morning or had a bath /shower the previous evening.

Lovesacake · 13/06/2023 08:01

I usually exercise in the morning. If I’m working from home and not seeing anyone I’ll stay stinky all day and have an evening wash as that’s my preference. If I’m going out then I’ll shower after exercise and try to skip the evening one. But if I’ve had a mucky sort of day then sometimes I do end up having two washes.

DontJudgeAnother · 13/06/2023 08:02

I'm not a massive fan of showering in all honesty... Will shower every couple of days if I've not been exercising or it's not hot. If I'm hot and sweaty and I'm going out somewhere in public I'll shower every day. If I'm not going anywhere then I'll think about it but don't feel the need to wash just for myself. It's more for other people! If I was a hermit I'd never shower.

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 13/06/2023 08:03

I don’t know, you try to be environmentally friendly and then you hear people like that who go to the gym and wash their gym gear daily, shower twice a day, have regular baths instead of showers and the list goes on and you just wonder how anything will change ever!!

I was my gym clothes daily, it's grim to put on clothes with stale sweat and it smells disgusting. I also shower twice a day, I won't apologise for being clean after sweating up a storm in my workouts.

Arewehumanorarewecupboards · 13/06/2023 08:04

I work out first thing and have a really quick shower after that and then a longer one after work. Even if I’m not visibly grubby I feel it.

Whatevergetsyouthroughthenight · 13/06/2023 08:07

For dry skin - use Dove bar ‘soap’ in the shower, No faffing with moisturiser and pretty cheap.

I prefer to exercise first thing in the morning so I only have to shower once.

GalileoHumpkins · 13/06/2023 10:48

You really need to work on that, most people just feel better in themselves when they're clean and fresh.

MidnightMeltdown · 13/06/2023 11:11

I don't see why you would need two showers a day - that seems crazy to me. Most hygiene experts and dermatologists argue that even once a day is too much.

Surely you just shower after you've exercised?

I shower 4-5 times a week depending on how hot it is and what I'm doing. I mostly shower in the evening (unless I've has sex the night before or it's been a particularly hot night).

I can see that overweight or menopausal women may need to shower more often if they sweat a lot, but I'm not either of those things, so am not typically sweaty.

If I shower without washing my hair, then the steam makes my hair really lank and greasy and I couldn't deal with washing and blow drying my hair everyday.

I do like to have a clean bum but I have a portable bidet for that!

Lcb123 · 13/06/2023 11:13

I cycle to work, and in the summer I'll have two showers, one when I arrive at work and one when I get home. In winter I skip the one when I get home usually.

DontJudgeAnother · 13/06/2023 12:09

I'm very happy with the status quo. Plus I am clean and fresh... I wear clean clothes, don't exercise all the time, don't get that sweaty, and shower every couple of days. More if needed but only if needed. I just don't wildly overwash for the sake of it like most of MN.

I hate it. Its a sensory thing, wildly over stimulating. I don't like being wet in a shower cubicle (shower over a bath is a smidge less horrific but still not great), I don't like being cold and wet when I get out, I don't like the part dry part wet clammy bit between getting out and being dry. It's noisy, I don't like water on my face unless it's accompanied by swimming goggles and I'm horizontal and I don't like that it feels like a chaotic rush. Bleurgh.

skippy67 · 13/06/2023 12:53

I always shower at least twice a day. Always have.

aSofaNearYou · 13/06/2023 12:54

Yes I would do. I always shower in the morning, regardless of any other circumstances as I feel sweaty and groggy otherwise, and I'd have another shower if I got sweaty exercising.

UndercoverCop · 13/06/2023 12:58

Can I just recommend l'occitane shower oil, it's really helped my skin and I swim a lot, so loud of very drying chlorine. I'm currently using the Shea and rose one, but the almond and plain shea are nice too. You can often get good deals on the refill pouches
