Do you shower twice a day on days you exercise?

Or can you manage to time it so that a post workout shower fits nicely into the rest of your day?

How do you work the timings?

I want to go to the gym tomorrow so will shower after, then go to a workshop tomorrow evening which means getting a bit grubby plus walking three miles so definitely will want to shower before bed after getting home. But my skin is so dry!

How do you arrange exercise and showering or do most people always take two showers on exercise days?

@getonwithyourlife no! It’s a shocking waste of water 😳

tulippa · 12/06/2023 18:59

I always have to shower after exercise. I would feel minging if I didn't and I'm a sweater. If it's first thing I'll just exercise pre-shower but if it's afternoon or evening I'll have a second shower then. I have to have a shower in the morning or I'll feel grubby all day even if I showered the evening before.

crabbyoldappletree · 12/06/2023 19:02

Have to admit I'm shocked at the waste of water on this thread. Can foresee a huge outcry when water companies bring out the standpipes.

getonwithyourlife · 12/06/2023 19:04

I got a water bill the other day, it’s not excessive in my opinion. I’m talking about one to two minutes in the shower first thing am and last thing pm most days, longer when washing hair.

Is it a terrible thing to do? I thought this was normal!

People always get snippy on these threads 🤣

I shower twice a day. Before work and then when I get home or <shock horror> maybe even a bath instead.

I couldn’t give a monkeys what the rest of ye do!

Grumpy101 · 12/06/2023 19:06

This is why I exercise in the morning. I hate waking up at stupid o clock and exercising in the morning but I hate having 2 showers and greasy hair even more.

Fairislefandango · 12/06/2023 19:06

I thought this was normal!

What made you think it was normal to shower twice a day? It's just completely unnecessary.

Ibizafun · 12/06/2023 19:11

Another one thinking it was normal.. I just like to feel clean?

getonwithyourlife · 12/06/2023 19:13

It’s how I was brought up. One of my parents is from a much warmer country than the other and more hygiene conscious, with food as well as personal hygiene.

HowToBeZen · 12/06/2023 17:32

Definitely not dehydrated.

I should find a really good body moisturiser though.

My dermatologist recommended e45 shower cream and Cerave moisturiser to me for dry skin. It's been an absolute game changer for me.

stayathomer · 12/06/2023 19:17

I was listening to a radio show and they were talking about the environment and how sometimes you can’t be environmentally friendly- one of the men said ‘but if you exercise at night would you not just shower straight after and leave the following morning’s shower’ and the guy and girl he was with all said how disgusting that would be and a girl texted in and said she sometimes doesn’t wash her gym clothes as she’d be wearing them running the following day and the same two screamed like it was the most disgusting thing on earth while the other guy said he saw her point. I don’t know, you try to be environmentally friendly and then you hear people like that who go to the gym and wash their gym gear daily, shower twice a day, have regular baths instead of showers and the list goes on and you just wonder how anything will change ever!!

hettiethehare · 12/06/2023 19:17

I remember another one of these threads descending into posters from different cultures calling each other mingers for not showering twice a day.

TBH, I can totally see why you would shower twice a day in hotter climates - I do in this sort of weather. I try to time my exercise so I only have to have one shower a day, but that is mainly laziness rather than any particular thought for the environment as I tend to take pretty short showers and turn off the water during them now I finally don't have the sort of combi-boiler where doing that means I have to run the water hot again!

lljkk · 12/06/2023 19:18

Honestly? I exercise a lot & don't shower so often. if people are running away from my smelliness in horror then that is fantastic. Bring it on.

I am contemplating a shower now. Since last shower (30 hours ago) I did 45 minutes slow-medium cycling, 2-3 hours brisk walking, 2.5 hours kayaking. The main problem right now is my feet are filthy from the beach.

I went on hols with a friend who would shower 3x/day. Once in morning after breakfast before our 3 hour cycle ride. Once after the cycle ride. Again after she had a (post exercise) massage. Lot of water. It was the before cycle ride one which amused me most.

getonwithyourlife · 12/06/2023 19:22

I use just under 40 m3 (cubic metres?) a year which is well below average so I’m not going to feel guilty about showering twice a day!

greglet · 12/06/2023 19:23

If it's ridiculously hot then I might shower twice. Generally I run home from work and then shower when I get home, so I’m still fresh for bed.

pizzaHeart · 12/06/2023 19:25

SystemSeven · 12/06/2023 17:38

I exercise in the evening and shower afterwards before going to bed. So once a day. I don’t pong.
But this is Mumsnet where many people think it is disgusting not to wash your bath towel after every shower (and damn the environment and their energy bills), so you will no doubt get answers saying it’s disgusting not to shower 5 times a day even without exercise! I’m exaggerating but not by much.

Actually it depends on the person. I was absolutely fine with one shower per day and even not too bad without but since closer to menopause it became impossible. I can’t wear tops twice anymore at all however DH and DD do this easily and they are absolutely fine. So if some people post that they need more than one shower - believe them.

Azaeleasinbloom · 12/06/2023 19:25

Try a soap substitute like QV, or Cetraben for your showers, then a moisturiser like Diprobase or Oilatum.
Makes a huge difference especially if you need multiple showers in a day.

FedUpWithEverything123 · 12/06/2023 19:27

Yes definitely

Is that just for you?
Mine is around £22pm

flowersg · 12/06/2023 19:41

I thought everyone showered twice a day?!

bonfirebash · 12/06/2023 19:43

Found my bill
Says I use 135 litres a day, average person living alone used 149 litres

LoobyDop · 12/06/2023 19:44

I exercise first thing and shower afterwards. Have been showering in the evenings as well the last few days because it’s so hot and sticky and I’ve been outside with bare feet half the day. But I wouldn’t usually, unless I was going out.

ThursdayFreedom · 12/06/2023 19:44

ComtesseDeSpair · 12/06/2023 18:09

If you sit on your arse indoors all day, sure. If you cycle 14 miles in 37 minutes and consistently sit among the top five fastest riders for several Strava cycling segments of your work commute, and spend your lunch break repeatedly squatting 150% of your body weight, the people around you are probably glad you’re fond of a shower.

@ComtesseDeSpair 14 miles in 37 minutes. I can't do that in the car in the mornings! I can't cycle it as it's the school run & I can barely fit them & their crap into a car! But well done you.

150% of my body weight. God, not these days! Not even once, let alone repeatedly.

thank god you're fond of a shower!

@HowToBeZen my timetable is a bit shot to shit, but 5:30 proper shower this morning, 5:30 quick shower to cool down
& another quick one shortly & before bed.

other days might just be one, but could be any time..

Looks like you used 9M3 in 39 days? So approximately 9,000l which works out at 230 litres a day. How many of you live there?

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 12/06/2023 19:45

I've become more of an evening shower person since lockdown, but a couple of times a week I end up having two. Just depends what I'm doing really. I don't have a problem with evening shower, clean pj's and not having a shower until the following evening. Prior to lockdown I showered every morning and again in the evening if I was exercising.
