Do you shower twice a day on days you exercise?

Or can you manage to time it so that a post workout shower fits nicely into the rest of your day?

How do you work the timings?

I want to go to the gym tomorrow so will shower after, then go to a workshop tomorrow evening which means getting a bit grubby plus walking three miles so definitely will want to shower before bed after getting home. But my skin is so dry!

How do you arrange exercise and showering or do most people always take two showers on exercise days?

Same here. It's also bit of a cultural difference in some cases evening vs morning shower! We always did evening, dh does morning.

@ReliantRobyn twat a bit eh

Smelly a bit eh?

Don’t most people shower twice a day anyway?!

Ooooh this has blown my mind. Obv I don't know the showering habits of everyone I know. But have had the discussion about showering with 8 of my friends and they all do once a day or sometimes once every two days (!)

In my house and family, deffo the norm to only have one a day. Two a day seems a luxury. Maybe I will start treating myself :)

Very unenvironmentally friendly to do that, i mean if you work somewhere with contamination risks, fair enough. Otherwise you're just squandering the earths resources.

Nope. Once a day is plenty.

@ReliantRobyn Not sure what you said to me that was sufficiently spiteful to be deleted, but imagine it was along the same lines.

Some of us just don't sweat that much! The reviews of my smell have always been glowing, so don't see the need for an overkill.

Don’t most people shower twice a day anyway?!

Really?

Nope, once a day is pretty normal in my family and in friends I've been away on holiday with.

I like a second shower on certain days of my period as a piping hot shower can make my cramps feel less intense. Or on certain really busy days if I'm going out in the evening after a long day.

But generally, I think once a day as being fairly standard if no other circumstances like exercise.

I shower three or four times a day sometimes! I cycle to work and shower; go to the gym at lunchtime and shower; cycle home and shower before bed - or if I’m going out somewhere else after work, shower before leaving and sometimes when getting home as well if it’s warm.

I only wash my hair and use shower gel during my morning shower though, and my skin is never dry or irritated.

Four times a day? Now that is honestly ridiculous.

If you sit on your arse indoors all day, sure. If you cycle 14 miles in 37 minutes and consistently sit among the top five fastest riders for several Strava cycling segments of your work commute, and spend your lunch break repeatedly squatting 150% of your body weight, the people around you are probably glad you’re fond of a shower.

AuntieMarys · 12/06/2023 18:11

Twice a day if exercising. Twice in summer to rinse off the suncream.

Fairislefandango · 12/06/2023 18:11

Don’t most people shower twice a day anyway?!

No. Most people don't shower twice a day unless they have a genuine reason (manual job, workout) or are obsessive. Why would you?

pimplebum · 12/06/2023 18:13

No I don't sweat since my days as a pilot in the falklands

Pickingmyselfup · 12/06/2023 18:14

I'm not averse to 2 a day but it's not the norm and I aim to exercise 6 days a week.

Yesterday I went to do a 10K and even with half running and half walking I felt pretty manky after. I would have had a shower as soon as I got in but as I wasn't doing anything but laying in the garden I didn't bother until late in the evening.

No need to shower this morning and I don't really need to later either because I only did weights at the gym and didn't get sweaty but I will have a quick one without a hair wash to help the hay-fever. That's my main reason for having 2 a day and wearing freshly clean clothes every day, if I had the energy I would change the bed every day too and hoover the carpets but I just dose myself up instead and to be fair it hasn't been that bad since I moved from the country.

And this is why on Mumsnet, people are washing a load of towels after only using once.

And then moaning about their energy bills.

bonfirebash · 12/06/2023 18:16

I shower once but exercise in the evening
So work, exercise, shower, bed

Everydayimhuffling · 12/06/2023 18:18

I exercise in the evening and then shower before bed, so that would be a 2 shower day, but then the next might be a no-shower day if I don't exercise. If I exercised in the morning then I would shower after and not shower in the evening. My skin would not cope well with 2 showers every day.

Chill out there Geoff Capes!

Thepeopleversuswork · 12/06/2023 18:25

I bathe as opposed to showering but I always bathe twice a day. TBH I would bathe four or five times if I didn’t think that was wasteful. I could cheerfully spend my life in the bath.

On exercise days (four days a week) it would probably be more like three times a day. I know it’s probably not great for the environment but I need to exercise for my MH and I need to not smell for work and my family so it is what it is.

TooJoy · 12/06/2023 18:27

That is frustrating that it has worked out like that.
I don’t have time to exercise in the morning so I’ll do it in the evening and then have a shower then.

As long as it’s not a regular thing then I’d just have 2 showers on that day.

Having 2 showers a day regularly would cause havoc with your skin and would cause you to be a bit smelly which isn’t nice for people around you.

SheisMammyof2 · 12/06/2023 18:31

If I exercise in the morning, then I shower once, otherwise it's twice. I naturally have very sensitive, dry skin so use Elave body wash and moisturise with silcocks base after every shower and my skin is perfect.

HowToBeZen · 12/06/2023 18:31

@Thepeopleversuswork Three baths a day on exercise days! How long do you spend in there?

We don't have a bath at the minute and I really miss it! I like to lie in the bath for a long leisurely soak though so couldn't fit three a day in Grin

Now I have bath envy.

My skin is fine with twice a day, and no one has ever run screaming with having to smell me lol

I think I'll carry on.😉

EastEndQueen · 12/06/2023 18:42

I tend to exercise between about 7-7.30am daily at home (after getting kids up and dressed and settling them in front of the tv to eat breakfast. I’ll shower for the day afterwards at 7.30. Will have a bath in the evening most days but that’s for relaxation really.

when I go to the gym at weekends I will have a 1 min ‘freshen’ shower at home after getting up (hair tied up and not washed) and then my proper shower after exercise at which point I will wash my hair.

Very much at the small children-sticky stage of life though so may need to wash more than others!
