to miss ds´ 9 month pediatric check because he´s sleeping..

..and would probably sleep another hour if I didn´t wake him up? It´s technically his 9 month check but he´s almost 10 months´old because I was slack at making the appt..

there are no vaccinations, it´s the normal weighing, measuring, checking ears and eyes stuff.. should I reschedule (which might mean waiting another few weeks) or wake him up?

Well if its anything like my DS last check up at 10 mo then it was pretty much a waste of time so no I don´t think there is anything wrong with rescheduling it.

I know if it were my DS and he was sleeping and would probably sleep another hour then I would definitely leave him to it (if only)

yay! so glad IANBU..lol yes I am in spain and yes the pain, THE PAIN, of thinking of waking him up just so they can confirm he´s perfectly fit and healthy (and of course a bit of chastisement for something or other that I am doing wrong as a rebel foreign parent. lol)

Sorry but yes i think YABU. Unless he's ill. Time has been put aside for you that prob. now won't be able to be used for someone else. Health checks are done for a reason. If you strongly think he shouldn't have one don't book it.

It will do him no harm to wake him up. It may do him harm if some problem is not picked up.

You have made an appointment and I think it is unreasonable not to go for such a crap reason, and a waste of resources.

I'm in Spain too..last week was DS's 9 month check up and was a WASTE of time!

weighed, measured and told off for feeding him things that I shouldn't (am doing it the English way, Spaniards are a tad too careful IMO)

make another appointment!

LOL at rebel foriegn parent..my paed thinks the same, but at least he tries to listen to me most of the time.

would take my kids to their check ups if sleeping - they can sleep afterwards.

I think the point is though that you HAVE agreed to the appointment, regardless of how useful you think it will be, you agreed to be there and a health professional will be there to see ds.

You shouldn't have agreed to the appointment if you can't be arsed to go. (and if only mitigating circumstance is ds is sleeping then it is just that you can't be arsed.)

They have a good free health service here but maybe she's gone private.

If she had appt with government doctor I'm sure he won't even notice she didn't turn up..they give you 5 mins per appt or something stupid.

Personally I would have gone as I believe it's important to go to check ups but it won't be noticed at doctors, always long wait at mine in the city centre.

Are you really unable to come up wth your own answer to this? In the time it took you to post here you could have called the surgery and rescheduled or just woken him. Not exactly a life changing decision is it.

Defo wouldn´t be noticed at my Doc´s as he´s always way too busy and I never feel he´s put time aside more like I´m wasting his time

Well in OP´s defence I think that sometimes when you are a 1st time mum in a foreign country without much support or friends around then you may need a little reassurance when making decisions, - apologies if this isn´t the case Maveta!

YABU - I think it's pretty inconsiderate for people to either not show or cancel an appointment at the last minute without a good reason - and no, a sleeping child is not a good reason.

mice, why can't she go on AIBU to ask this question? If people only came on mumsnet to ask lifechanging questions then I'd be a bit concerned tbh. It's just a bit of banter. Actually it's interesting that you bothered to waste the time to post a slightly narky message with no advice in it.

nah maveta, YANBU. But i do think that if you think that routine checks are a waste of time then you should probably just not book them in the future.

Lordy be. I don´t pay and he woke up just in time so we went in the end. I´d actually called to say we wouldn´t make it and the guy was totally cool with it and was just rescheduling when he woke up so I said we´d be along but about 10mins late. He said "that´s fine they´re running behind anyway". And they were, about 45 mins, so I´ll know next time to just let him sleep, call and find out how long they are running late and be within that

And it was a waste of time and I did get told off for feeding him things I shouldn´t be (also following UK guidelines). And they pulled back his foreskin making him cry after I asked them not to. So glad I went all in all But yes, I do jump through all the hoops which is why I make these appts.

LOL micegg - I didn´t know the AIBU topic was for life changing/ life or death situations only.

SAME experience. They told me my DS has an unusually small hole for weeing (techical word!) but not to worry as just keep pulling it back. I haven't done this but when I go they do it and afterwards it stays red for a few days after

Anyway, glad everything's OK, do what I do...LIE!!!

Have you given him the vitamins? Yes
Do you bath him EVERY day? Yes
Has he eaten a whole egg? NO, of course not!

lol lokka - I got asked the egg question too and she told me to put vaseline on his willy if it´s bleeding a bit - i said if it´s bleeding I am going to be really unhappy.. luckily it isn´t. Have told them NEVER to do that without asking me again and will make sure it´s the first thing I say on every visit from now on.

fluffsuptheduff - I know! I feel really bad, it was obviously stinging and making him cry everytime he had a wee. As soon as we were in the house for the night I just put a pair of leggings on him and no nappy and he seemed happier. Hopefully it´ll be fine now but feel really really peeved about it!
