Most women hoover above toilet seat in public toilets to pee?

I was out this weekend and had to use the toilet to pee. I normally hoover above toilet seat to pee in public toilets and was thinking to myself this is difficult especially if I need to do a long pee🙈😂 Is this what most women do too or am I being extra germ conscious and should just wipe the seat and sit down? Sorry if tmi but I'm just curious

I used to do this until my Dyson got too unwieldy to lug round the shopping mall so now I just take a dustpan and brush instead.

😂😂😂

Boom! @ShowOfHands

I don't and never have. What exactly do you think is going to happen if you actually sit on a loo? Obviously if there's water from the flush on there I'll wipe it with loo roll first.

Maybe this?

'Streptococcus and Staphylococcus are two kinds of bacteria that have been found on toilet seats; the first can cause throat infection and impetigo, the second can cause skin infections, including boils and cellulitis. And viruses, such as the common cold virus and hepatitis A, can be found on toilet seats as well.'

Which is why I, too, have always hovered! (And that's if I can bring myself to use a public toilet in the first place!)

midsomermurderess · 08/06/2023 18:12

Women so fastidious they have hover over the toilet; so fastidious they leave their own piss all over the seat for the next woman to clean up.

PetitPorpoise · 08/06/2023 18:14

Always sat on the toilet properly and never caught anything. I shower daily and always wash my hamds with soap. The skin on the back of my legs is not broken and i am not flexible to lick myself there, so no, i'm not concerned about germs getting through my skin.

Suspect toilets would be far cleaner, and queues much shorter if people just sat down intead of sprinkling piss everywhere and leaving toilet roll from their makeshift toilet seat covers all over the floor.

Because I'm dealing with my own pee and not countless other people's? And I've never got a drop of my own wee on myself or the seat.

I keep it in my bag at all times for going walking. (I only use a backpack) and once in ASDA, all the toilets were absolutely minging, I couldn't physically go get a cleaner to sort it as I was desperate, I didn't want to clean up other people's mess so I used the she-wee.

I also have a knee problem and sometimes when it's having a bad flare up it locks in a bent position and I just don't want to risk sitting down and getting stuck 😂😂 so that another reason I use it.

I was just offering an alternative for people who don't like touching the seat but don't want to hover.

If its not for you then that's absolutely understandable but there's no need to mock someone else for doing something that has absolutely no bearing on you.

100% this! I'm always 🙄 at those people who can't seem to grasp the idea of personal germs Vs strangers germs...

And they can get in via the skin of your thighs!!!

Although chances are they're there already, as they commonly reside on skin. Sorry, but you aren't a completely sterile environment yourself.

Keep hovering and you might well give yourself a UTI, though.

How do you feel about handrails?

Blankscreen · 08/06/2023 18:27

Nothing said here will stop me hovering i just can't bring myself to sit on a public toilet.

As for touching handrails absolutely no chance 🤢

HidingInAForest · 08/06/2023 18:30

Blankscreen and others - I wonder what would help? Do you strugglen in other areas of life. Would getting help for germphobia/ocd type tendencies help do you think?

DarrellRiversCriminalBehaviourOrder · 08/06/2023 18:31

Is there a bit of a "princess and the pea" mindset going on with some people?

Blankscreen · 08/06/2023 18:34

No don't struggle with life but I just can't stomach the thought of sitting on a toilet seat that has potentially 000's of other people's piss wiped all over it.

It won't if they sit. It will if they hover.

Thanks.

Harls1969 · 08/06/2023 18:37

No, unless it's really rank and I'm desperate. I don't eat off my bum and I shower daily. I'd be more worried about what I touch with my hands than what I touch with my backside (And I don't worry too much about that as I wash them).

wentworthinmate · 08/06/2023 18:41

Used to hover until a few years ago. Guess it’s an age thing, just plonk down now.

DarrellRiversCriminalBehaviourOrder · 08/06/2023 18:41

If you absolutely must hover, then lift the seat like men do, for the same reason.

Cakeandcardio · 08/06/2023 18:43

I could never hover. But I do line the whole seat with toilet roll. I thought that was also pretty standard, no?

I can't believe I didn't say "princess and the pee". Dammit!!!

ExcitingTimes2021 · 08/06/2023 18:44

I was actually moaning about this the other day work. I’m a nurse, a pregnant nurse, on a very busy ward where we have only two cubicals between 4 wards. We are so busy you hardly have time to pee in the first place, then you are constantly queuing for the toilet, coz like I said for some ridiculous reason they thought 2 cubicals in enough for a full floor!

For these reasons combined the other day I was DESPRATE for a wee. With this being the second baby the pelvic floor isn’t what is used to be and I was dangerously close to pissing myself 😂😂. Ran into the damn cubical and forgot to check the seat and wouldn’t know fucking know it… Piss all over the fucking bastard seat and now all over the backs of my bloody legs.

Hovering is just vile especially when you just pull your pants up and off you go without a second thought for the next user! Pisses me off to no fucking end I tell you! Hoverers I have no idea what you are actually trying to achieve except to make as much mess as possible and to have the most uncomfortable wee you can manage. STOP IT! X

Cakeandcardio · 08/06/2023 18:43

No. It causes blockages and increases the chances of cubicles running out of paper.

bonfirebash · 08/06/2023 18:55

I'm severely immunocompromised and have never caught anything despite sitting on toilet seats every time
Just wash your hands well after using the toilet, then I use hand gel after opening the doors

AngelinaFibres · 08/06/2023 18:57

RoxyMuzak · 07/06/2023 17:11

My husband said when he was a kid his father told him to use a maximum of 4 sheets; any more was wasteful. He said he knew better than to say 'So it's all right to walk around with a shitty arse?'

My husband was allowed 3 sheets of toilet paper. One up, one down, one polish.

Skodacool · 08/06/2023 18:59

planthelpadvice · 07/06/2023 07:57

🤣 took me a moment.

OP you are being extra. You can't catch anything through the backs of your thighs and by hovering you are more likely to wee on the seat making it gross for the next person. Just sit down - you'll be fine!

You’re more likely to catch bacteria from the toilet paper or door handles than the seat. Hovering is bad as it makes it difficult to empty your bladder.

SuperBlondie28 · 08/06/2023 19:01

I like to sit. I give the seat a quick wipe with loo paper first. One thing that really annoys me, is when mother's take their little boys into the ladies and the child wees all over seat 🤮 and mummy dearest does sod all about the mess!! Make them sat down for goodness sakes, if they cant aim in a hole that big!!!

I always shower before bed if I've used public loos

When you are next in M and S and have successfully gone up the escalator ( no hands) and used the loo ( hovering method and no hands) just have a think about how many people haven't washed their hands after using the toilet and have touched the tray you are about to pick up in the cafe, the tongs you pick up that cake with and the back of the chair you have to pull out to sit down. Every bit as many faecal germs on those surfaces as there are anywhere else.

AngelinaFibres · 08/06/2023 18:57

Might not matter so much with men, but I hope women know to wipe front to back.

Blankscreen · 08/06/2023 19:10

Rest assured I don't pick up cake that has been breathed all over by other people. 😂. Especially using filthy tongs

I also antibac hands literally just before eating.

The thought of the kids touching the chairs and underneath the table etc and then eating sends a shiver down my spine.

I am now thinking that I maybe I do have a problem with germs 😂. I've always been a bit careful but I definitely got more careful after COVID.
