Most women hoover above toilet seat in public toilets to pee?

I was out this weekend and had to use the toilet to pee. I normally hoover above toilet seat to pee in public toilets and was thinking to myself this is difficult especially if I need to do a long pee🙈😂 Is this what most women do too or am I being extra germ conscious and should just wipe the seat and sit down? Sorry if tmi but I'm just curious

Why do people hover on their own loo? Surely you can ensure that is clean

99% of the time, I am more than happy to sit down on my own first floor loo. On 99% of occasions, that is the only loo I will need to use. I would hover on the downstairs guest loo even though I keep it clean. I do not use the loo in the loft conversion because DS has decided it is his.

I am generally fine with hotel loos although the first time I use the bathroom, I will do the wiping thing.

VikingLady · 07/06/2023 10:58

If anyone is going to lick the back of my thighs, I'm likely to shower before that anyway!

I'm far more bothered about touching the taps and door handle tbh. I use hand sanitiser after I leave, but that doesn't slow things down.

Blankscreen · 07/06/2023 10:59

In public toilets I hover. I know I can't catch anything through my skin but I really don't like the thought of importing the germs off the toilet seat into my clothes and then my house.

I manage to not piss all over the seat.

For Dd I lay tissue out and she sits on that.

I also use tissue to flush/open the door/ turn the taps off etc.

Topseyt123 · 07/06/2023 11:02

No. I don't. Hoverers are ridiculous and do spray the seat, which they then leave for the next person!

Hoovering is a new one though! 🤣 I wouldn't put it past some on here to consider taking a vacuum cleaner to public toilets. 🤣🤣🤣

seawitchhair · 07/06/2023 11:02

Women who hover tend to leave behind pee on the seat for the next woman to wipe off. It's disgusting. It is also bad for your bladder to hover.

AgnesX · 07/06/2023 11:04

There seem to be plenty that do given amount of pee that decorates seats and floors. Personally, no, I take a wipe.

Hoverers are the reason the seats get covered in pee in the first place 🤢

I'm sure I read somewhere that it means you don't empty your bladder properly which leaves you more susceptible to infections.

I always sit 🤷‍♀️

This.

If you are bothered by a shared seat, put Dettol wipes in your handbag. I do when travelling by train or coach because the combination of women hovering, men standing, and the vehicle moving results in the seat and floor both being awash. Envy ⬅not envy

BarbaraofSeville · 07/06/2023 11:06

And when anyone gets to a public toilet and finds there is no paper, the ones who use half a roll to avoid touching anything are partly to blame.

I was puzzled about a new colleague, who would always immediately start grabbing huge amounts of toilet paper when entering a cubicle (I could hear her doing this). She must have been one of those laying it out all over the seat.

@Aprilx this is the opposite for me...I must have some kind of backwards bladder or something! As someone that has suffered recurrent UTIs and has had various tests and investigations including an IPV, I found that if I hovered at the end of going for a pee, there was always a little left and hovering allowed me to pass it, as one of the tests showed that I wasn't fully emptying my bladder when sitting. Curious.

The advice from urologists for a degree of bladder retention is to pee, wipe after you feel you have finished peeing, stand up fully for a moment, then sit down and pee again. Hovering places the wrong pressure on the bladder.

ArmWrestlingWithChasNDave · 07/06/2023 11:07

Since I got several infections from sitting on public loos,

No you didn't.

VintageThoughts · 07/06/2023 11:07

Never hoover

Rarely hover

But I do put toilet paper on the seat first - mainly to protect myself from previous hoverers' drips.

Florissante · 07/06/2023 11:08

Seconding that.

Florissante · 07/06/2023 11:08

Oops. That was in response to ArmwrestlingwithChasandDave's post.

DeanElderberry · 07/06/2023 11:08

Female hoverers are as unacceptable as penis-havers in women's public loos. A nasty, dirty, inconsiderate habit. Also an unhealthy habit. Sit down.

BananaPalm · 07/06/2023 10:21

Since I got several infections from sitting on public loos, I always always hover. Or, as my friend used to say, I "do the eagle" 😂

Unless I have one of those toilet seat covers with me. They're great for travelling.

How the hell do you know the infections were due to sitting on public loos? 😂

BridportSpectacular · 07/06/2023 11:12

I used to - never bother anymore - unless it's very grim.

I quite like a Asian style squat toilet - supposed to be very good for your pelvic floor.

inappropriateraspberry · 07/06/2023 11:13

Unless it's looking a bit rough and there are no other loos free, I sit down! Wash your hands well, and at some point when you're home I'm sure you'll shower or bathe the parts that touched the seat!

VitoCorleoneOfMNMafia · 07/06/2023 11:14

lieselotte · 07/06/2023 10:17

I've always sat down and have reached 50 without catching anything horrible. I bet hovering makes you slower as well and makes the queues to use ladies loos even longer. Just sit down!

I always laugh when a loo hasn't flushed properly and woman walks out again instead of using it. Do you think someone else's poo is going to jump out and infect you? But then, when I need to go, I need to go, and I don't worry about the condition of the loo (I might care if there were cockroaches in it, but thankfully it's never been quite that bad!) - I suppose you can wait for a cleaner cubicle if you are not desperate.

If you need to poo, do you really want someone else's poo in the splashback? Also, you don't know if the flush is broken and you will be adding to the shitberg that some poor plumber will have to deal with later.

I press the flush and then walk back out to find another. If the flush works, the loo is clean for someone else.

panromanticist · 07/06/2023 11:16

Someone said upthread that hoverers are responsible for the long queues in ladies' loos. I had never thought of that, but it makes good sense. I have often wondered why women take so long to have a wee.

Yet another reason to stop sodding hovering!

Dettol wipes in your handbag and all is solved...

JaninaDuszejko · 07/06/2023 11:18

I always sit, there needs to be a public health campaign up in public loos telling people not to hover doesn't there. And to pick up any toilet roll they drop on the floor. And to check everything is flushed away.

pimplebum · 07/06/2023 11:18

No one nibbles or eats their lunch off the back of my thighs so I don't worry

Tissue down is more relaxing

HidingInAForest · 07/06/2023 09:47

Just what I was thinking - re chairs, restaurants etc.

It's a strange hang up people have and the few on here that have it seem proud of it!

I wonder if it harks back to generations ago when there was less understanding of germs? I know the whole Jim Crow laws made White people scared to sit on a loo a black person had used ( :( ) as if it was "dirty."

Also in the 80s with the fear of HIV and not knowing how it spread might be where some people's parents go the idea from.

But it really is a small minority that now have this hang up I would imagine.

I think it more of a fear/OCD type of thing. Or the ick factor.

summerfinn · 07/06/2023 11:18

😂😂🙄 early morning post airy hover . Sorry for spelling mistake everyone 🙈

If nobody hovered nobody would need to hover. Previous hoverers are the only reason for needing to hover.
