Most women hoover above toilet seat in public toilets to pee?

I was out this weekend and had to use the toilet to pee. I normally hoover above toilet seat to pee in public toilets and was thinking to myself this is difficult especially if I need to do a long pee🙈😂 Is this what most women do too or am I being extra germ conscious and should just wipe the seat and sit down? Sorry if tmi but I'm just curious

I used to do this until my Dyson got too unwieldy to lug round the shopping mall so now I just take a dustpan and brush instead.

😆😆

Threads like this sadden me because we're so incredibly fortunate in this country to have access to sanitation and people don't appreciate this and are stupidly weird about using a toilet that someone else has also used. Get over yourselves FFS.

Next time you're in a public toilet, maybe read some of the charity posters about the teenage girls who don't go to school during their periods because they don't have access to period products or washing facilities, the people who have to walk for miles to collect water or those who can't access toilets at all.

Or have a read of https://toilet-stories.wateraid.org/

Toilet Stories

Globally, one in four people don’t have a decent toilet of their own. Read and share these #ToiletStories and help demand this human right for everyone, everywhere.

No, I don't hover. And I'm very nearly 60 and as far as I'm aware, in all those years, I've never caught anything by sitting on a toilet seat.

Trinity65 · 07/06/2023 10:25

To answer your question, OP, I do not hover. I did when I was little as Mum took me in the Loos then but as an adult, nope.
DM hovers but never leaves a mess. Apparently,
I suppose it comes down to choice at the end of the day

Since I got several infections from sitting on public loos, I always always hover. Or, as my friend used to say, I "do the eagle" 😂

Unless I have one of those toilet seat covers with me. They're great for travelling.

Genuine question - what infections did you get and how were they traced to sitting in a public toilet?

If the loo was such a health hazard, did the council close it down for infection control?

KetoQueen · 07/06/2023 10:27

I hate the hoverers! They leave poss on the seat and a pile of toilet paper on the side half the time too

MintGreenLife · 07/06/2023 10:27

@Aprilx this is the opposite for me...I must have some kind of backwards bladder or something! As someone that has suffered recurrent UTIs and has had various tests and investigations including an IPV, I found that if I hovered at the end of going for a pee, there was always a little left and hovering allowed me to pass it, as one of the tests showed that I wasn't fully emptying my bladder when sitting. Curious.

JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam · 07/06/2023 10:29

I cannot hover. My hips and knees are all out of alignment so I’d fall over!

Because of this I hate hoverers because they leave piss all over the seat!

I have never hovered above a toilet seat. I sit on it, as is intended.
I have caught many things in my life, none of them as a consequence of sitting on toilet seats.

Indeed!

I was in my 20s before I was even aware that some women "hover" and then realised that it must be them who are responsible for pee on the seats.

I'm 65 on Saturday, have always sat on toilet seats and haven't once caught anything from doing so.

Did you have broken skin on your bottom at the time

magicstar1 · 07/06/2023 10:32

It depends on the toilet and how clean it looks.

I do however always have a good look at the back of the seat after an incident in a nightclub years ago. I hovered over the seat for a wee (thank God I did!), flushed and left. The next girl in let a scream of disgust and when I looked back in, someone had left a big log on the back of the seat which I could have sat on.
I had to explain it wasn't me, but I don't think she believed me at all.

I always hover, unless I'm in my own house and even then I tend to hover.

I'll often hover if I think the toilet seat is cold.

I raise you ten years and at 70 I've also managed to use public loos without catching anything.

DarrellRiversCriminalBehaviourOrder · 07/06/2023 10:36

I always wondered how a woman manages to get piss all over the seat, as I so often see in public lavatories.

Then, when I joined Mumsnet, I discovered that there's an army of women waving their bums over the seats because they're so horrified at what might happen if the backs of their thighs make contact with the same surface as another person's.

It used to annoy me, and then I realised that it's much, much worse to be so terrified of something so absolutely ridiculous, so now I just feel sorry for them.

Just please wipe the seat after you've sprayed everywhere from your hover of horror, hmm? Pretty please?

What infections did you get and can you prove how you got them?

BlackeyedSusan · 07/06/2023 10:42

pussycatinfluffyslippers · 07/06/2023 09:50

🤣🤣🤦‍♀️

Apparently it's a thing. People stand on one leg and flush with their foot.

mainsfed · 07/06/2023 10:44

I sit because I don't want to leave drops for the next person by hovering.

If there are one or two drops, I will wipe them and sit. But if a lot of the seat is drenched then I hover too.

ClairDeLaLune · 07/06/2023 10:45

If it looks grim I hover. If I dribble, I wipe.
If it looks ok I wipe and sit.

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 07/06/2023 10:41

Yeah if she's getting infections by germs entering her thigh/bum skin then she's got serious issues.

Sidking · 07/06/2023 10:45

Only in portaloos 😂 but theres lots to hold on to for support in those, not so much a toilet stall.

Normal loos I sit. I do own a she-wee which I bought for hiking, I tried to use it on a hike and my body won't let me pee if I'm standing! No idea why as I really needed to go, but I couldn't!

Cherrysherbet · 07/06/2023 10:46

I do not hover.
I’m 49 and it has never caused me an issue.

Namechange1345677 · 07/06/2023 10:47

Why would you??? I've never understood this. It's the back of your legs....

Just sit down!

toomuchlaundry · 07/06/2023 10:48

Why do people hover on their own loo? Surely you can ensure that is clean

Tessisme · 07/06/2023 10:49

I only came on to make a joke about vacuum cleaners but I see I've been beaten to it🤣🤣

CosmosQueen · 07/06/2023 10:51

planthelpadvice · 07/06/2023 07:57

🤣 took me a moment.

OP you are being extra. You can't catch anything through the backs of your thighs and by hovering you are more likely to wee on the seat making it gross for the next person. Just sit down - you'll be fine!

Precisely @ShowOfHands 😵‍💫
I had to read it twice!
