Cursed clothes

Sorrynotsorry22 · 04/06/2023 17:03

I was involved in a prang( daughter driving). Now the whole outfit including a lovely green cardigan, sits forlorn in my wardrobe because its cursed.
Same with new jeans, lovely clarkes shoes and a jolly t-shirt
Twisted my ankle in the outfit so it's all cursed.
White holiday trousers from 20 years ago , cursed !( don't ask)
There's more but AIBU?

I fell off a kerb in the dark, had to go to A&E for stitches.
I sold the boots I was wearing, didn't trust them any more, and they were almost flat.
Have fallen at other times but never felt the hatred and distrust of the footwear, only those boots.
I will always remember the unpleasant nurse that sewed me up too, she practically told me I was lying about not drinking. I don't drink, there were no damn streetlights on the green I walked across and fell off.

ClaudiaAndTheCauldron · 04/06/2023 19:11

I know what you mean.
When I have been in a bad situation of some sort I feel like the clothes absorb the 'bad vibes'.

I put them in the washing machine to be 'cleansed' before I wear them again. Yes I aware this sounds crazy :-)

I have had some outfits I can't wear again. Like what I wore to my best friend's funeral, or when my cat was run over that I have just given to charity.

SirenSays · 04/06/2023 19:14

Hmm very quirky. The closest I come to this is that I buy new dresses for funerals and then immediately donate them afterwards.

MissSmiley · 04/06/2023 19:15

YANBU the pair of knickers that I wore when I first had sex and the condom broke, never worn against, they were bad luck pants

LindorDoubleChoc · 04/06/2023 19:17

No. I've never felt like this about an item of clothing. I suppose if I did I would wash it and put it in the charity bag.

LindorDoubleChoc · 04/06/2023 19:19

Reading back - I don't know what I was wearing on the day my father died. Aibu?

ScarlettDarling · 04/06/2023 19:21

I get you op, definitely cursed. Burn them so you don’t pass the bad luck on.

The Goldie Hawn film ‘Private Benjamin’ is cursed for me. It’s been on twice when dreadful things have happened. Seriously wouldn’t watch it if you paid me a fortune!

My elder daughter had a bad accident. Lots of clothes from that time associated, obviously the outfit she was wearing when it happened, but also the clothes bought to accommodate the bulky bandages etc. I felt quite sick when they all came out of storage for the younger daughter, but she's worn it all for a year and nothing terrible has happened. The reason I did not simply get rid is that I have made an immense effort to normalise what happened, and minimise the trauma for dd1. The pan involved had to go though, could never have faced cooking with it again. The chair is still in the kitchen, no idea which of the 4 it is.
And the public service announcement bit of the story is that kids should not cook using the hob unless they are tall enough to reach. Dd1 was standing on a chair and she fell off, instinctively tried to catch herself and unfortunately grabbed the pan handle.
Anyway, Op, wear the stuff or give it away/sell. Not a good idea to keep a load of cursed clothes in storage, the power is cumulative you know ;)

dontchaknow · 04/06/2023 19:53

Don't some sports people wear lucky pants and/or socks?

ChiaraRimini · 04/06/2023 19:53

I have a cursed recipe, I cooked it for my then BF the night he dumped me. It was a really good lamb curry made with lamb from the butcher that cost £££.Will never cook it for another man.

If you are, so am I. No idea what I wore to his funeral, either.

Idlechitchat · 04/06/2023 21:00

I get where you’re coming from OP! My DC had a serious accident years ago and I had to throw away both of our outfits even though he made a full recovery. I also couldn’t wear the clothes again that I was wearing when I had a MC. I wouldn’t say that I thought the clothes were cursed but they just had too much negativity associated with them.

SisterAgatha · 04/06/2023 21:02

YANBU. In the same vein, I have a lucky dress!

wouldthatbeworse · 04/06/2023 21:09

I couldn’t rewear the clothes I was in when diagnosed with a miscarriage. Not because they were cursed but because they made me too sad. A prang and a twisted ankle I think I could re-wear the stuff

2gorgeousboys · 04/06/2023 21:29

I know what you mean. My wedding dress was delayed coming from America because of 911, had red wine spilt on it during our wedding day and a week after we got married it went up in flames when we had a house fire. Thankfully the marriage has lasted longer 🤣

emsie12345 · 04/06/2023 21:48

I had a cursed top from H&M in the early naughties. I looked so cute in it. The first time I wore it my flat caught on fire. The second time I was mugged. The third a bee sting. Threw it in the Tyne with an onion after that.

Pigstrotter · 04/06/2023 21:58

Years ago I was wearing a boob tube & some stilettos, as I went over on the shoe I fell off the pavement & into the road & my boob tube slipped down. Were these cursed?

Why the onion?

OnMyWayToSenility · 04/06/2023 22:19

Ooh weird I didn't know there was such a thing as in my clothing, but I refuse to wear other peoples clothes!

Years ago bought my son a set of pjs from a charity shop ttey we're almost brand new and from John Lewis, and he was so sick that night, awful.

Washed the pjs and he wore them again and was as sick as the previous night.. random feeling unwell so sick like he'd been possessed.. threw them away after that as I didn't want the energy anywhere near me. Very odd, my kid now an adult still remembers the cursed pjs

SmellsLikeTeenSpirits · 04/06/2023 22:30

Could you have them exorcised?

dishyrishi · 04/06/2023 22:32

Yes, wore my favourite top (at the time) to my mothers funeral, couldn't wear it again after that

Sorrynotsorry22 · 05/06/2023 00:21

I'm so glad l'm not the only one. Love all these answers especially those that have serious reasons for associating clothing with bad experiences.

I think l keep mine because of the cost and because l chose and liked them
I don't think l have lucky clothing but will look just incase
As for my own cursed clothing? It's time to let go, into the next charity bag they go! To be appreciated by someone else .

Yes this is what stands out to me too. I think I am missing the clothes gene.. they just don’t mean much to me.

I know what I wore to my wedding and I wore the same t shirt to give birth in both times (just for practical reasons) but I don’t know what I was wearing when, say, I miscarried both times, or what I was wearing when I went for my D&C, or what DC or I was wearing when they broke bones or had other A&E trips. I couldn’t even vaguely tell you. Almost certainly the clothes I was wearing on bad days just went into the wash and then right back into circulation without a thought.

SisterAgatha · 05/06/2023 13:47

I do remember very small details about bad and good days generally. I know that I will remember too so if I have a job interview or important appointment in the morning or something, I’ll do something memorable in the afternoon so it goes down in my head as “the day I saw xyz” instead of the day I didn’t get a job.

clothes wise, I could tell you what I was wearing most days, but I am not good at recalling what was said, so maybe it’s just more of a visual memory thing.

I gave away the top I wore when I sat with my dad while he died, no way could I have worn it again without being reminded of that morning

I can totally understand that.
I would never have worn the outfit I wore to my dh’s funeral again.
But our clothes weren’t cursed in any way, we just hated the events they were related to.
