To not like holidays?

Just come back from a week away.
Had a nice time, but by day 4 I was ready to come home and tbh, I am always homesick by midweek whenever I’ve gone away.
I mean I had a nice time, and the weather was lovely, but I just want my home comforts back, my own bed, my own space, my comfy sofa.
Plus holidays are sooo expensive, and it was a “cheap” holiday (1.5k for 5 of us). I just think of everything else I could spend that amount of money on that would last way longer than a week.
now I’ve been home for just 3 hours and I’m already on the second load of washing. This is all I will be doing tomorrow as well - endless washing. And all the unpacking too. I just don’t enjoy it. But dh loves travelling and holidays and it’s just the done thing isn’t it? Having a weeks summer holiday. Surely I can’t be the only one who doesn’t really enjoy going away.

YABU - I love holidays. You’re a freak
YANBU - You are not alone - I don’t enjoy get the fuss either

I don’t dislike holidays but if I couldn’t have another, I wouldn’t be that bothered. We have a second home so we do live between the two, countryside and beach, so I’m sure that helps as we regularly get a change of scenery while still being at home.

We have really nice homes and I just feel happiest there with our animals. I hate leaving our animals.

We have actually done a lot of travelling, had nice holidays, stayed in lovely places but I still wouldn’t be bothered if we didn’t do it again. My partner feels the sand but we do it because we don’t hate it and we want our children to have the chance to see places.

same not sand.

I don't understand being homesick after 4 days, when you're with your family and know you're going home shortly.

Like how can you not just understand and accept people are different? How? 🙄

@Oftentimes well said

I like holidays, mostly. And as I'm the holiday planner, I choose off the beaten track destinations that I want to see as DH mostly enjoys similar stuff. We've just come back from four weeks away (to celebrate retirement and surviving some big health issues -- it wasn't our holiday routine). We took the ferry to Spain and drove around a 3000km loop for the food and the history, scenery etc, and the time away together without pressure. We had friends join us for a few days in the middle. Not a holiday for a young family, but lovely for the middle aged. I was very pleased to see a washing machine five days before we got the ferry home though.

@Oftentimes

calm down! Im only curious!

@LuckySantangelo35 I’m calm. You’re the one picking at the OP for being different to you. This is what you do on every single thread. It’s fucking weird.

Caroparo52 · 29/06/2023 18:08

Sounds like you get all the burden of the holiday on your shoulders... packing, unpacking ( both ends), washing, cooking... trips....
Does everyone do their bit here or just expect you to make the holiday magically work on your own?
If that's the case I get your point that its easier to be at home to make the day successful .
I used to find organising 2 babies to go on holiday very stressful and ( ex) dh used to swan in, drive and do sod all else in the preparation. It does get easier as kids get older ( in their 20's).

When the weather is hot here I don’t see the point in going abroad just to enjoy the sunshine over there. I do like going to interesting places (US, Australia etc) and I’d love to go to Japan/S. Korea but the hassle of packing and flying for a beach style holiday doesn’t really excite me nowadays.
