Tissue and cigarette end found in garden

Bit of a strange one

I live alone

This morning I noticed a scrunched up bit of tissue paper in my back garden. Right next to it is a cigarette butt. I don’t smoke and it definitely wasn’t there before. My back garden can be accessed by anyone as there is a lane behind it. I have a fence and gate and no gaps so I don’t think it could have blown into the garden in the wind.

Neighbours can’t have thrown it over because of where it is and fences are too high on their side. its right outside my French doors. On closer inspection it looks wet but it’s not been raining, just looks like there is a clear liquid on it.. am I being unreasonable to be paranoid about how these things have got there?

A bird dropped them?

NewPinkJacket · 02/06/2023 23:56

Could it have been thrown out of an upstairs window by a secret smoking neighbour? 🤔

HangingOver · 02/06/2023 23:56

Gull, they're always dropping shite in my garden

Veah · 02/06/2023 23:56

By tissue paper I mean like what you would blow your nose with or toilet paper, not the craft kind of stuff

I think.... There are more important things to worry about

Blablablanamechangagain · 02/06/2023 23:59

Bird.
Mystery solved

neslop · 02/06/2023 23:59

Can you not just lock your back gate?

grumpycow1 · 03/06/2023 00:00

Hmm most likely the wind or a bird… but I’d still be worried someone had been in my garden. Could you install a ring type camera just to get some reassurance?

Sounds like someone might've been smoking out of the bathroom window and didn't want to try and flush the fag butt?

This sounds most likely to be. Is your neighbour’s bathroom window overlooking your garden?

pizzaHeart · 03/06/2023 00:22

maybe someone was smoking secretly and then threw it out from neighbour’s upstairs window : a visitor or their child.
It also could be wind. Do you have trees near by ? It could be blown onto the tree and then from the tree into your garden.
however I would buy and install Ring camera, once the worry has appeared it tends to stay forever.

Underminer · 03/06/2023 00:32

At our last house the teenage kids would secretly smoke and throw their cigarette butts over the fence into our garden.

Neighbour had a window cleaner or aerial/Sky dish person round?

sweetdreamstenasee · 03/06/2023 00:34

I don’t think it’s anything to worry about but for your peace of mind is there anywhere to install a camera? :)

SkiingIsHeaven · 03/06/2023 00:38

I'd be worried that someone had had a wank and a post coital cigarette in my garden. Yuk.

Yep, re-read the last line from OP, it’s a jizzy tissue with a post coital cigarette.

Furries · 03/06/2023 03:30

How is your rubbish collected?

Where I am, it’s bin bags collected from outside each house. Bastard birds and cats often rip them open - so occasionally have remnants of tissue, crisp packets, cigarette buts on edge of driveway.

LadyLapsang · 03/06/2023 03:55

When this happened to me, I heard a noise in the middle of the night, went down putting all the lights on, but didn’t go into the garden as I was eight months pregnant and alone. The next day we found a bush had been disturbed and footprints as well as the cigarette end. My lovely neighbour gave me his number so if it happened again he would investigate.

100% my immediate thought 😅 though I'm not sure I'd inspect any tissue lying in my garden or put this much thought into it. It COULD just be a plain old snotty tissue. Many of which have appeared in my garden, blown in from being chucked on the road alongside much other rubbish. I just dispose of it with no thought. I highly doubt anyone would queue up to watch me through my window wanking over me and smoking a cigarette though 😅

Frustratedsupermodel · 03/06/2023 09:06

In the last few days we've found a pair of oven gloves, a huge half-empty bag of bird food, and a t-shirt in our garden. The baby foxes are coming through gaps in the fence, bringing their stolen wares with them.

Police NOW.

Please tell me you're joking 🤣

Bird
Fox
Wet from dew off the grass
How high are your fences that nothing can be thrown over?
You back onto a lane......
Don't know where you are, but the wind has been very strong where I am over the last few days - washing blowing off the line strength. They could have come from anywhere.

I have rubbish in my back garden frequently. I'm pretty certain it hasn't come from my neighbours.

mynameiscalypso · 03/06/2023 11:14

We have a roof terrace on the third floor which has a human-height wall all the way round. I found a McDonald's package up there yesterday. I assume it's the wind or a bird.

BlackberrySky · 03/06/2023 11:17

Wind, bird, fox, neighbours, night prowler in that order of probability.

Iyiyiiii · 03/06/2023 11:18

I think you're paranoid
