To think Phillip schofield scandal is homophobia?

Have I missed something in that the guy Philip had the affair with was not a minor?

He was a minor when they met, as was Cheryl Cole and Liam Payne for example and no one has anything bad to say about that relationship.

I'm not sticking up for Philip and really dislike him, and also think even if the runner was above the age of consent is most definitely questionable behaviour but I can't help think of it was a heterosexual affair it would not be treated in the same way?

It's an institutional scandal regarding ITV, the main UK commercial broadcaster. ITV has legal responsibilities. Parliament has thus taken an interest.

HTH.

If you had any experience of mentoring a young person who wants to break into a highly competitive industry you would know how vulnerable they are and how disgusting Philip Schofield is. Nothing to do with his sexuality.

He groomed that young boy who was desperate to get into TV. He is a lot younger than his own children. Quite honestly he sickens me. ITV clearly aided and abetted him sending the boy to Schofield's flat in a taxi and then paying him off. No young boy would be safe with Schofield around.

Southoftheriver32 · 01/06/2023 01:12

Are you for real? He only came out as gay to soften the blow of what was to come. The runner was a child when he groomed him. Are you getting the picture or do you need it spelled out?

Rummikub · 01/06/2023 01:12

If anything, PS has gotten away with this for as long as he has becausepeople don’t want to be accused of homophobia.

I think he was the only person pleased that lockdown happened as his story then disappeared.

He has lied at many stages. I’m surprised it’s taken this long tbh. It’s nothing to do with homophobia. Lies and grooming.

I agree OP. It doesn’t lessen any of the issues around his grooming/predatory behaviour but the right wing vile papers never got over him coming out and are relishing putting the boot in now. The whole situation is ugly.

A poor young man was completely shafted he had no chance of making it big on tv. Phil wanted a play thing he had him delivered to his house , added him on twitter when he was a school boy. Phil even searched for house shares fir him , he dumped the lad when he matured too much into a man. Hes gross and its abuse. Allegedly the boy was very troubled when he got moved to loose women and he needed lots of money. I hope it wasn't for drugs. Phillip schofield is a horrible man he used I'm coming out to cover up his shitty vile behaviour.

There must be more to it because don't get me wrong it is not good at all and isn't ok - but equally the reaction seems overly extreme.

I get why it would be an issue, but the publicity around this is way bigger than I would expect

Yes, YABU OP. This is not homophobia. It's a "pissed off with a creepy, lying, arsehole who silenced people who dared tell the truth with threats of litigation and the sack" thing.

If it was homophobia he'd have gone a long time ago.🙄

JeandeServiette · 01/06/2023 01:24

YABsoU.

I hope you don't have sons, OP. Would you really be all "cool mum" if your 15 year old was groomed by a rich man 30 years his senior, used and then dropped?

Of course the scandal isn't homophobia.

PopcorningPancakingWheeking · 01/06/2023 00:06

It's because he cheated on his wife. Understandably people are upset about that. He isn't a victim. He didn't have to marry.

Does anyone actually believe this?

His wife knew he was gay. It was obviously an open marriage

He came out because this (you know, grooming a boy) was all bubbling away in the background.

If people / the media ‘have it in for him’ it’s because he’s a predator - who grooms and preys on children, lies, and uses any means possible to cover it up while also trying to get everyone to feel sorry for him….!

Do you get it now?

MrsTerryPratchett · 01/06/2023 01:39

The irony is that all those girls this shit happened to didn't matter because of sexism.

All young people matter, regardless of the sex and sexuality of the predatory mostly male people creeping on them.

PerfectYear321 · 01/06/2023 01:39

That Mumsnet thread someone linked to earlier where PS was sympathising with Jimmy Saville's family hits differently now Confused

🙄

He groomed this lad from when he was a child. He had contact with him throughout childhood, got him a job and then started having sex with him when it was ‘legal’. This wasn’t a relationship, it was grooming and abuse. There was an imbalance of power. He lied to everyone. He is a predator.

Although I’m often not a fan of age gap relationships, Cheryl met Liam at an audition, a public one. There’s nothing to suggest she had contact with him or groomed him after that. She then met him as an adult, he was as famous, probably more famous, as rich etc, he’d travelled the world and had life experience. After a time they appeared in public together, they were a proper couple. There was no imbalance, no cover ups.

Suspicious behaviour from you trying to say it’s homophobia and make comparisons where there are none. Fuck all go do with homophobia abc everything to do with him being a predator.

This. Added to the fact he told us all how much he had been faithful to his wife and how much he loved her - all while he was doing this. He swore to us and his wife he had never cheated - on top of the fact he groomed a child, abused his power and by the sounds of it, had him delivered once a week like a pizza - possibly using his expense account - had him shipped off elsewhere and ruined this persons life. Anyone ask what the pressure is current on this young man? His identity exposed, he can’t even work in a pub etc / what is he going to be known for in his life?

also despite knowing about safeguarding etc he knew his brother was an abuser and it was disclosed to him and he did nothing - not report it, just told him not to do it again !!! WTAF

😱

Because he's 23 or 24 in those photos. They are very recent. He met Schofield when he was 15 and in Y10 at school.

Of the 9 protected characteristic groups which have flags up an entire month each year?

No heterosexual adulterer would be hugged and treated as the victim.

I would say the opposite of hate happened.

The man's a self confessed liar.

seagulldown · 01/06/2023 01:53

@LuluBlakey1 you need to scroll down to see the younger MM pictures. Clearly a young teenager

@LuluBlakey1 oops, just re-read your post and you are saying the same! Sorry, thought it was you saying MM didn't look that young

Oh gosh, really. Do you have the link?

Moro93 · 01/06/2023 01:57

I think it’s disgusting that he was praised years ago for coming out. What he done wasn’t brave or something he should be applauded for, yet because people are so scared of being branded ‘homophobic’ these days, he was treated like some kind of hero!

People have the choice whether to come out or not, he didn’t have to. But he never had to marry or have children!

And what he done to MM was grooming, plain and simple! He was in a position of power over him since he was underage, made promises and gave him ‘rewards’ which then led to him ‘owing’ him something so he could use him for his own sexual gratification.

Liam and Cheryl was nowhere near as large of an age gap, she wasn’t in a position of power over him, didn’t get him any positions etc and she wasn’t cheating.

I also believe there is more to come out and how much him and his brother could have been in on together…

Moro93 · 01/06/2023 01:58

Oh, and just in case you didn’t get it OP, YABVU!

LuluBlakey1 · 01/06/2023 02:01

I don't think anyone emerges from this saga with much dignity or integrity. Phillip Schofield, ITV, Martyn Frizell and the other Senior Managers at ITV, Holly Willoughby, Eamonn Holmes, The Daily Mail (who love to victimise someone and have been gunning for Schofield for years), the sickening Dan Wootton, Dr Ravi and now Kerry Katona is piling into it on GB News.
It epitomises everything that is wrong with the cult of celebrity that exists in our society. These people are paid millions for very little, are prepared to sell anything to the Press if the money is right, are indulged by big TV companies, followed slavishly by 'fans', fill the gossip columns (when it suits them) and the boundaries in their worlds are nothing like normal or acceptable.
The photo below of Wootton (bitchy, not very bright and very vindictive) and Homes (embittered and vengeful) is absolutely sickening in its falseness.
I am sick of the cult of celebrity. Anyone who is a 'fan' of celebs must be brainless or braindead.

Missingmyusername · 01/06/2023 02:03

MM was 9 when he first met PS not 16. Photos are on the internet.
PS would’ve been wise to have never engaged in a relationship with the boy, even if he was ‘legal’. His family, his job, his brother it’s all very ick.
I think more will come out, I can’t see him working again.

Boomboom22 · 01/06/2023 02:06

Good point that being gay has actually protected him. He came out and then the story was quashed in case it looked homophobic. If it had been a young girl he'd have been sacked.

dancinginthesky · 01/06/2023 02:08

Nope nothing to do with homophobia

Lots of things are "legal" but still incredibly immoral- these are what PS has admitted to so far. We don't know yet if there's more to come

There's several things really - PS behaviour towards the young man, PS behaviour to the public playing the role of somebody who would interview victims and raise awareness whilst engaging in these actions, a network covering up post Savile and bullying and "managing out" employees at ITV

I would answer KK with abilism and not fitting in with the MC culture as other WC people do.
