To think Phillip schofield scandal is homophobia?

Have I missed something in that the guy Philip had the affair with was not a minor?

He was a minor when they met, as was Cheryl Cole and Liam Payne for example and no one has anything bad to say about that relationship.

I'm not sticking up for Philip and really dislike him, and also think even if the runner was above the age of consent is most definitely questionable behaviour but I can't help think of it was a heterosexual affair it would not be treated in the same way?

are people really this thick? They can’t see the difference between an extramarital affair and the possibility a young person has been groomed? I fucking despair.

But shouldn't the morality of an elected representative be of more concern to the press than that of a two-bit daytime TV presenter?

PS is sleazy AF for sure and has quite rightly lost his job and reputation, but this smacks of one of those media frenzies that are built up to produce profitable clicks and low-risk entertainment for the masses. It's okay though because no one with real power or influence was harmed in the making of this scandal.

Are you serious? We're talking about children here and your only concern is grown government officials? You honestly think the two are comparable?

I'm with you. Don't know why I keep commenting because clearly some people will never get it.

WheelsUp · 01/06/2023 14:23

PS had a squeaky clean reputation - Joseph in the Westend, CBBC in the 80s, This Morning... Advertisers like WeBuyAnyCar wanted that for their marketing campaigns and will have paid lots of money for that image to shine on their brand too.

BJ has never denied being a sleaze and the people who elect him don't care about the cheating and affairs. If his pandemic WhatsApps are analysed we will undoubtedly find more proof of his alleged sleazy behaviour. The people who voted for him before won't care and say those predictable retorts like "at least we didn't have Corbin as PM" or "Affairs are for the husband and wife to sort out"

I was making a separate point in response to a specific post. Calm down FFS

We're not "talking about children". Some are speculating on what might have happened when MM was a child, and damning PS as though it definitely played out that way. I have the sense to know that I don't know those details about what happened and confine myself to condemning PS for what we do know, which is quite sleazy enough for me to be glad to see the back of him.

uglybettty · 01/06/2023 14:44

Grooming a child is not an affair.

Absolutely sick of the grooming/coercion/rape apologists on here. The ones on Facebook are even worse!

Verv · 01/06/2023 14:47

Sleazy PM has affair with adult.
TV presenter grooms child.

Two entirely different situations, and while you can disapprove of both, you cant use one (BJ) to justify the other (PS)

To think Phillip schofield scandal is homophobia?
StarmanBobby · 01/06/2023 14:51

I’m gay, and I do think the reaction would be similar, if not the same. The circumstances, the huge age gap- doesn’t help that his brother is a paedo of course.
cant believe that he has torpedoed his entire life over this

SunnyEgg · 01/06/2023 14:55

I don’t think it’s to do with their sexes

It would be similar if the situation was with a girl to young woman

QueefQueen80s · 01/06/2023 15:05

ivfregret · 01/06/2023 00:08

There must be more to it because don't get me wrong it is not good at all and isn't ok - but equally the reaction seems overly extreme.

I get why it would be an issue, but the publicity around this is way bigger than I would expect

The age gap is disgusting in itself.

Wheresthebeach · 01/06/2023 15:28

I suspect part of the press reaction is because they've been sitting on this for years so it's now exploded.

I Imagine a lot of people really dislike him too

Naunet · 01/06/2023 15:32

Amazing to see how many people still want to brush potential child grooming under the rug. How far we haven’t come 🙄

We are talking about children. What was it he said? Oh that's right, 'unwise but not illegal'.

Perhaps you should calm down and not apologise for creepy adults.

Rationally looking at things in a general sense most people understand. Rationalising an abuse of power over a boy isn't one of those times.

I'm feeling pretty calm thanks and I certainly haven't "apologised for creepy adults" don't let that stop you from having a wibble though.

I'd love to join you in a rational discussion, but it seems beyond you so I won't waste either of our time. Have a great day.

Position of status and met the individual age only 10. massive age gap. Became friends at 14 and then found a job for him as a runner at ITV. Then affair. Lied about it. Complaints covered up about the status/age gap/grooming etc

Have you heard about grooming @ivfregret it's a thing, and not a nice thing. Blurred lines/power positions etc.

This 100% especially with the rich and famous. Yuck.

Hehehejeiej · 01/06/2023 16:02

I work with young people @Raquelos who want to break into a highly competitive industry. They are very vulnerable because they think everyone who works in that industry is incredibly glamorous and access into it is very difficult. I could have a legal sexual relationship with the seventeen year old I mentor. It would however clearly be utterly wrong of me to do so. Schofield has been fired, condemned by many of the people who worked with him and an enquiry has been ordered by his employer. You crack on and shut down what is a very important conversation though…

VestaTilley · 01/06/2023 16:12

YABU. I think when they first met he was 15.

It’s creepy AF- as is any relationship with a massive age gap. He’s being rightly criticised because he abused his position of trust.

Not every gay man being criticised is homophobia.

HairyKitty · 01/06/2023 16:48

ChintzyGunslinger · 01/06/2023 09:59

"Grooming is when a person builds a relationship with a child, young person or an adult who's at risk so they can abuse them and manipulate them into doing things.

The abuse is usually sexual or financial, but it can also include other illegal acts."

Grooming | Metropolitan Police

So literally no evidence of grooming then since we would need proof that he gave things to the boy with the deliberate intention of future sexual abuse. Unless he confesses, the other person gives a statement, or someone on here is telepathic there is zero proof of grooming (in the legal
sense of the word)
