To not want DH here?

DH wfh three days a week, office for two. I’m on maternity leave from next week. I was really looking forward to the three weeks or so before the baby is due, as since lockdown I can count the times I’ve been alone at home on one hand.

He has now announced he can stay home until my due date 😭

AIBU to try to encourage him back to the office?

YANBU.

Have you told him in no uncertain terms that you don't see this as a favour for you?

Just be clear - say 'actually in many ways it's easier for me when you go into the office. Can you renegotiate so that you WFH more after paternity leave instead?'

And stop tiptoeing around him, it's a home first.

My DH recently said he would WFH more like 3/4 days a week now instead of the usual 2. I have a chronic illness. Said he could “help me more”…….. yes……… All I can hear is endless Teams calls when I’m trying to rest, questions of “what’s for lunch?” Zero help with anything around here - and I’m not talking huge things but maybe empty the dishwasher or take dog out at lunch break. WFH is great for him. Beware OP!! I suggest he does that after baby arrives….. just hope he doesn’t suddenly need to go to the office 5 days a week when he sees how hard parenting is eh! 🫣

I completely understand OP.

It is clearly NOT for your benefit, but his.

I think you should tell him the truth, that actually it will work better if he goes to work so you can have the freedom of the house with your toddler.

Any normal decent man would understand this.

Especially the bit about having friends over.
