Mine?

Rejoin the EU.

It the single most powerful lever any government could employ.

It makes the country significantly better off at a stroke and improves all kinds of situations, growth, investment, labour shortages, farming, fishing...

What's yours?

I think rejoining the EU is the main one. We're better together than apart. Second thing would be properly fund the NHS, third thing , education. I know I'm being greedy now

Spanielsarepainless · 29/05/2023 18:23

Fund social care. From experience, there isn't a hard line between medical and social/personal care and a person can swap between them as they get better or worse.

And on a lighter note, have compulsory shaded parking areas at motorway services for those travelling alone with dogs. Marked with a pawprint, obviously.

HappilyContentTheseDays · 29/05/2023 18:25

For me personally? Reduce the state pension retirement age to 64, I'd be off in a shot.

For the country? NHS dentists accessible to all, as another pp said, thousands of them all over the country.

MsFogi · 29/05/2023 18:26

Rejoin the EU
Renationalise critical services - elec, gas, water, rail, broadband
Sort out the NHS, education, public services generally
Plug tax loopholes - make online companies pay their fair share, bring cash in hand jobs into the taxed economy (as they do in France etc so that people have a retirement fund, NI etc), ensure that those with their own businesses/self-employed are paying their fair share (all the massive houses around me are owned by people with their own businesses who seem to manage to pay pretty much no tax but were happy to take a lot of taxpayers' money during covid).
Sort out further education - fund decent training for skills (building skills etc) as a credible alternative to ridiculously expensive degrees that are barely worth the paper they are written on and don't lead to jobs.

Resign en masse.

This!

stbrandonsboat · 29/05/2023 18:26

Deal with antisocial behaviour, youth crime and bad neighbours.

Sworntofun · 29/05/2023 18:28

I agree with just about all the things previous posters have suggested. What a dreadful country this has become under the Tory scum 😩

user1469908585 · 29/05/2023 18:31

Legalise some sort of assisted dying.

NaughtyButNice · 29/05/2023 18:34

Rejoin the EU

Pass the Kept Animals Bill that Parliament cancelled last week which would have helped billions of animals from cruelty in Factory Farming, Live Exports, Puppy Farms, Illegal Import of Animals, Zoo Animals, Fish and many more.

Just cancelled.

They are all being passed as separate bills. So not cancelled.

If it had been kept as one bill opposition parties were going to turn it into a political protest over hunting.

Rosesbloomingnow · 29/05/2023 18:41

Tax big businesses and the wealthy, use that to fund nhs, teachers, fill potholes etc. And renationalise water and train companies but sorry that's 2 things

Theimpossiblegirl · 29/05/2023 18:43

Be honest

Stop listening to people like the guy below who would have us all starve rather than hear a foreign accent. They are not ‘left behind’ they are just stupid.

To be fair to the man in Boston, he might have some legitimate complaints - not least the street drinkers mentioned in your link. As far as I can see, Boston has had problems with street drinking, anti-social behaviour and fights between rival foreign gangs for some years. In 2011, five Lithuanian men were killed in Boston when their illegal vodka factory exploded. Then there's the houses of multiple occupation... I wouldn't want to live in Boston myself - I expect you are a NIMBY as well.

SingleMumStruggling · 29/05/2023 18:44

By making work pay. How they would do this, I do not know.

SingleMumStruggling · 29/05/2023 18:45

Or make working^ pay. You know what I mean (I hope!).

MargotBamborough · 29/05/2023 18:46

Proportional representation.

Twinpeaches · 29/05/2023 18:46

Call a General Election.

(Also rejoin EU / Single Market and move to Proportional Representation but think I new government is needed before any of that could happen)

Lampzade · 29/05/2023 18:48

Gtsr443 · 29/05/2023 15:43

NHS dentists. Thousands of them all over the country.

This
Also rejoin the EU

notprincehamlet · 29/05/2023 18:48

Address the housing crisis by returning it to a social necessity not a tax-efficient investment vehicle. Build more quality social housing and affordable housing for owner occupation (not BTL) inc for FTBs and downsizers. Then fuck right off.

Bumdealoftheweek · 29/05/2023 18:50

Raise the 40% tax threshold.

Wildandwonderful · 29/05/2023 18:53

Rejoin EU

To all those PPs saying more social housing or more of something else... You can't build more houses without more builders! You can't have more.... without more workers. Everything needs the EU.

Twinpeaches · 29/05/2023 18:53

”Those that want to re-join the EU, would you be happy to adopt the euro? Because the EU would never let us back in on the old terms we had before.”

Yes. Clearly our old preferential terms were better, but rejoining as equals would be infinitely better than the mess we’re in now.

Digestive28 · 29/05/2023 18:59

Apart from EU, NHS etc.
they could actually fine and hold water companies to account who keeping dumping sewage. It’s illegal, they need to stop. I don’t have a choice about moving my water to another company so reliant on the government to do it.

Alpacasmum · 29/05/2023 19:17

How long is that going to take?
Compassion in World Farming are not impressed.

Giselletheunicorn · 29/05/2023 19:19

Fund SEND services, including education, properly.
