Mine?

Rejoin the EU.

It the single most powerful lever any government could employ.

It makes the country significantly better off at a stroke and improves all kinds of situations, growth, investment, labour shortages, farming, fishing...

What's yours?

I agree on Rejoin EU but I have 2

  1. Call a general election tomorrow
  2. Recover all the ill gotten gains they have handed out to their friends/donors etc in the last 5 years
ssd · 29/05/2023 19:24

Make 100% mortgages compulsory

Jaberwockky · 29/05/2023 19:24

Another for funding SEND services properly, with actual practical support for parents who are to be honest, abandoned and forced to remain in their homes outside of school term times.

roarfeckingroarr · 29/05/2023 19:24

Free childcare

AlbaAurora · 29/05/2023 19:25

Azealeasinbloom · 29/05/2023 15:25

Oh yes - This

Sad people you must be.

ThankmelaterOkay · 29/05/2023 19:26

Ban old people from Post Offices on Saturday mornings. They can go in the week.

ASimpleLampoon · 29/05/2023 19:27

ANutAsBigAsABoulder · 29/05/2023 15:28

Provide proper support for SEND education and respite care for families, not make everything a constant struggle to get any crumb of help.

Also this.

Lifeisgood1 · 29/05/2023 19:29

Me personally. Let us get a mortgage. I'm a carer for a disabled child and my husband works full time. We pay £900 every month on time but can't get a mortgage and I'm terrified of our landlord selling. I'd love the security of our own home

ASimpleLampoon · 29/05/2023 19:34

FifteenQuarter · 29/05/2023 16:16

Families often can't or don't want to look after their own disabled or elderly and don't want to use up savings buying in help, the MC run political parties, they like low wages in your sector.

If a child is disabled we don't have a choice and wouldn't choose not to anyway 🙄

Peachbubble · 29/05/2023 19:36

Increase Carers Allowance from £75 a week to a figure that actually pays the bills. And stop making it taxable.

mrsblueskyeye · 29/05/2023 19:37

Pay civil servants properly.

mondaytosunday · 29/05/2023 19:45

Continue Widowed parents benefit for children in full time education, including university.

Tauranga · 29/05/2023 19:46

In general...make big companies pay tax.

Selfishly.... get rid of property tax

Spectre8 · 29/05/2023 20:00

Lo lat all the rejoin the EU comments, we still had shit nhs back then too. If only the money we actually give was spent properly, with proper commercial agreements not chappy pfi..BTW in Blair yrs when that happened its not the EU who made him do that. Thise bloody pfi contracts sacked so much money from NHS.

Being bsck in the EU won't magically .are our NHS or schools funding better.

We need better policies, no more wasting money on vanity projects. Proper wages to attract and retain staff and a better education system. These are all UK policy decisions that need to be done better.

You could throw a trillio pounds at the NHS tomorrow and it would devour it and demand more unless the entire institution, commercial contracts and bureacray is rethought

KindleAndCake · 29/05/2023 20:05

Just give us the help we deserve for our disabled kids and adults. It's hard enough as it is without having to fight for EHCPs and other rights.

Stop making DLA and PIP so difficult and stressful.

Rejoin the EU, its been an obvious shitshow since we left, as we knew it would be.

Stop bankrolling Scotland, they don't like us, they want independence so give it to them, we'll have their share back and it will help fund our NHS and social care. I love Scotland, don't get me wrong, but they really don't know they're born with their free prescriptions, free bus travel for all up to age 20+, free school meals in primary school, chromebooks in all primary and secondary schools for all pupils. They have it very good.

Sorry, couldn't chose one.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 29/05/2023 20:14

Pay me a reasonable amount for the amount of work they expect me to do!

ToK1 · 29/05/2023 20:16

@KindleAndCake

England doesn't bank roll Scotland

We pay more tax than you and don't have a tory govt.

And the chrome book thing is a load of shite lol.

SunnyEgg · 29/05/2023 20:18

Not so much government but people in general - healthier population

icelolly12 · 29/05/2023 20:18

Rejoin the EU

StarryGazeyEyes · 29/05/2023 20:19

Re-join the EU

Raise public sector pay in line with inflation rather than real-term pay cuts

Nationalise the water companies (well, all essential utilities, but I'd start with them)

Red0 · 29/05/2023 20:21

Force price drop for energy, petrol, food

KarmaStar · 29/05/2023 20:21

Ban live export/import of animals and accepting they are sentient beings.

ContinuousProcrastination · 29/05/2023 20:28

Tax me more. I earn loads. I give lots away, but i can't solve that teachers, nurses and doctors are leaving in droves because they aren't paid enough.

I want to give more back. Lots of high earners do. Stop assuming we'll all leave the country if asked to pay our way, we fucking won't! Let us contribute to allow this country to be a thriving economy with a happy well paid population.

Align capital gains tax with income tax to start with, then add in more gently graded tax bands. I'd actually lower the 40% rate that kicks in around 50k to 35% because middle earners get hammered, but start grading the tax rate up gradually eg 40% at 65k, 42% at 80k, 44% at 95k, 46% at 110k, 48% at 115k, 50% at 130k plus. Get rid of the personal allowance claw back as it creates a cliff edge that interacts with other benefits like 30h childcare and so incentivises people to delay hitting it by dumping into pensions.

Gradual tax banding for sure.

Lower retirement age.
