Have covid and attend outdoor event, would you go?

Tested positive for covid on Friday after feeling rough for a few days but just thought it was a head cold, was pretty surprised when that red line appeared! Felt much better yesterday and this morning. There’s an outdoors music festival on today, which I’d ruled out since said red line but friends (ones that were, 3 years ago, very freaked out by the whole thing, rule abiding, social distancing fanatics etc) are like “it’s fine just go, it’s just a cold now” etc! But I feel uncomfortable about it. Obviously I wouldn’t hug anyone or cough on them (bit of a cough still!) wwyd? Would you still go?

If you didn’t know that’s one thing but once you do then…

Floralys2 · 28/05/2023 09:20

People are still doing tests?!

I haven't done one for over 1.5 years

People need to move on

Divorcedalongtime · 28/05/2023 09:20

Definitely would still go

If you didn’t know that’s one thing but once you do then…

...then what? Follow the NHS advice?

User1529865 · 28/05/2023 09:21

I would go, you are better now aren't you, don't play the martyr

Gcsunnyside23 · 28/05/2023 09:22

I would still go if you're feeling better. Considering barely anyone tests now and are carrying on I wouldn't miss a festival if I was ok especially as it's outside

Pineappleelephant · 28/05/2023 09:23

I wouldn't. I don't understand why people aren't testing in healthcare settings either though.

TeaParty4Me · 28/05/2023 09:23

I would normally say absolutely not.
But if you were poorly for a few days before you even tested then you probably don’t have it anymore.

My work is 5 days after you’ve tested positive and so I stick to those rules.

Why not test now and see if you’re still positive.

WimbyAce · 28/05/2023 09:23

If I was feeling well I would go. I went to Wimbledon last year with covid, was a bit tired but otherwise OK. As a guide even as an NHS worker we can now attend work once feeling OK.

I've been going to gigs and festivals for years, and will continue to do so.

Here's the thing. I'm immunosuppressed and it's shit but I wouldn't expect others to restrict their lives because of me (early days of covid when there were no vaccines or antivirals notwithstanding - that was a public health emergency, which is now over). To expect others to do so would make me the selfish one.

When covid has been rife (eg December 21 with Omicron) I made the decision to avoid certain places. My choice, to protect myself. I probably wouldn't have gone to a festival then, but I wouldn't expect others not to.

I fully accept that I may catch covid (again!) if I do 'normal' things. That's fine. I could just as easily get really ill from flu or noro or a hundred other things. But it's my decision. My condition typically cuts ten years off your life and disables as it progresses - I can already feel it getting worse year on year. Like fuck am I going to waste the good years I have left hiding.

Stop portraying all immunosuppressed people as frail housebound wraiths who need protection. It's ableist and utter rubbish. And unless you've never left the house with a runny nose, ever in your life, you're also being a hypocrite.

I certainly am not portraying all immunosuppressed as people frail and housebound. My response was to someone suggesting those with autoimmune illness shouldn't attend events.

If someone is still testing and is positive, they're utterly selfish to go to an event knowing they can infect others.

If you didn’t know that’s one thing but once you do then…

That's my exact thoughts.

I’m not “playing the martyr” ffs 🙄 I still have a bit of a cough and only today tested negative which still makes me feel uncomfortable

It's not 'just a cold now' though is it?
It's still Covid.
Get a grip!

Okshacky · 28/05/2023 07:55

If covid was the same as a common cold then why do you think they test you for it before you go into hospital and cancel appointments if you have it?

They don't go that. I've had several hospital appointments and not had to wear a mask or test. Friend had surgery and didn't have to test either

JohnPrescottsPyjamas · 28/05/2023 09:28

Unless you literally have been living in an isolation bubble, every single one of us has now been exposed to covid somewhere along the line and the the likelihood of open air transmission is incredibly rare - remember all the hysteria about a potential explosion of cases when people were packed on Bournemouth beach, which never happened, and that was at the height of a wave?

Don’t forget, even CMO Chris Whitty said 3 years ago that the quarantine period could safely be reduced to five days, but due to purely political reasons, and to save ministers faces, it was kept at 10 days - not for any health benefits or risk factors.

Yes but actually "just a cold" can actually be worse than covid. My daughter has been far more ill with other things but sailed through covid.

cushioncovers · 28/05/2023 09:28

Yes I'd go

HorseyMel · 28/05/2023 09:28

People are still shoving sticks up their noses and wanging on about covid and isolating? How sweet.

TulipCat · 28/05/2023 09:29

Your staying home wouldn't protect any of the festival goers from covid because most people aren't testing so won't even know if they have it. There could be thousands of people with covid there. All you'd be doing is stopping your own enjoyment of the event.

I am guessing you didn't really want to go for if you did this is ridiculous.

Willmafrockfit · 28/05/2023 09:29

people are still dying of/with covid

Serena73 · 28/05/2023 09:30

Well at work I wouldn’t be allowed more than 5 days off max and at school you can only have 3 days unless too ill to attend! Apparently it’s not as infectious after that time. I would still go regardless, because I also wouldn’t test so wouldn’t know, like most people I would imagine.

liveforsummer · 28/05/2023 09:31

The cough can linger for weeks. You've tested negative - go to the concert ffs!

User1529865 · 28/05/2023 09:31

Willmafrockfit · 28/05/2023 09:29

people are still dying of/with covid

And they will for evermore like people do with flu and other illness's, some people die of quite minor things

IHateLegDay · 28/05/2023 09:31

I don't test anymore unless I have the classic symptoms of loss of smell/taste and bad cough (tested once in the last year and I did have covid).
I wouldn't know if I had covid so I'd still go but if I knew I definitely did, I'd stay home.
