Have covid and attend outdoor event, would you go?

Tested positive for covid on Friday after feeling rough for a few days but just thought it was a head cold, was pretty surprised when that red line appeared! Felt much better yesterday and this morning. There’s an outdoors music festival on today, which I’d ruled out since said red line but friends (ones that were, 3 years ago, very freaked out by the whole thing, rule abiding, social distancing fanatics etc) are like “it’s fine just go, it’s just a cold now” etc! But I feel uncomfortable about it. Obviously I wouldn’t hug anyone or cough on them (bit of a cough still!) wwyd? Would you still go?

My response was to someone suggesting those with autoimmune illness shouldn't attend events

You are completely missing the point.

Is somebody is that unwell they should be taking personal responsibility rather than expecting others to restrict their own lives.

Timeforchangeithink · 28/05/2023 11:02

As someone who will never ever willingly go into a lockdown situation ever again, if you have an infectious disease, no matter what it is, you should not be spreading it around.

I don't know anyone who tests anymore so how would anyone ever know if they had covid or a case of the sniffles? I don't understand why you've tested if not to cancel your plans upon finding out you're positive.

At some point even the remnants of those testing, like yourself, will no longer test. We move on.

This. Why bother to test if you are then questioning about isolating???

So do you think the state should pay these people a living wage so they can "take personal responsibility" and not go to work then? Should kids with autoimmune conditions get private tutors and hospital rooms?

I really, really hope that one day soon you get a taste of what it's like to live like this.

Wow. So should people will illnesses spend all their life having the soul sucked out of them alone in a darkened space

It is entirely their perogative. But they should not expect others to hide away for them.

Bloody hell what an attitude. I hope you never find yourself or a member of your family being vulnerable. I am and extremely vulnerable and all I expect is for people to have at least one brain cell that tells them if they have an infectious disease they should be staying home.

RampantIvy · 28/05/2023 11:13

When I had what I thought was just a cold I took a covid test only because I had a dental appointment that afternoon. The line came up straight away so I rearranged my appointment. The dental surgery was grateful that I had done this.

I WFH most of the time and just told my line manager I would WFH on the day I was due to go into the office. One of my workmates has several autoimmune conditions and it wouldn't have been the right thing to do to go into the office.

My line manager actually said she didn't want me in with covid.

If the people you’re going with are fine with it then go. There will be loads of people there with it, without testing no doubt as most don’t now

Yes. Testing is a thing of the past for the vast majority.

Again many people havrr to go to.work even with covid, not everyone has a a work from job my clinically extremely vulnerable son still.had to go to school
and has clinically vulnerable dad has o go to work ,you don't get I dictate what people should or shouldn't do.

dizzydizzydizzy · 28/05/2023 11:28

No don't go. I know covid is a cold
For many but for some of us it has long term
Health consequences.

SunnySaturdayMorning · 28/05/2023 11:30

Covid is the same as any other illness. Follow the simple rule that if you’re well enough to go, then do so. If you don’t feel well enough, don’t.

IcedPurple · 28/05/2023 11:33

SwordToFlamethrower · 28/05/2023 10:52

If you're ill, you stay home. Any illness.

Completely unrealistic in practice.

Yerroblemom1923 · 28/05/2023 11:33

If you feel well enough to go then go. I would.

cakehoover123 · 28/05/2023 11:34

I have Covid right now. I'm 43, 3 jabs, never ill. I've been in bed for 4 days and still feel weak.

I think Covid now is like flu - most healthy people will shake it off, a few will get knocked out for a bit like me. But for vulnerable people, it can still be life-threatening.

If you knew for sure that you were infectious with flu, you wouldn't visit vulnerable people, or go to a big event where you'll be in contact with hundreds of people.

Don't go.

Lovely ,however not everyone has the option of working from home
Most Employer,s still want their employees in if they are well.enough to work .

It’s an outdoor event. YWNBU to go in my view.

If you're ill, you stay home. Any illness.

Even people who will lose wages/their job if they stay at home? People (including nurses, SEND teachers, etc) who have been told that covid isn't a reason for absence if you're ill but well enough (ie a runny nose/cough) to come in? What about people who need to pick up DC from school, or need to access healthcare?

Have you always stayed at home if you have a cough or runny nose?

I'm CEV too and would never, ever expect anyone to put their livelihood at risk to 'protect' me. And if you're suggesting everyone should stay at home if they're ill, that's exactly what you're doing.

I'm guessing people with that attitude all have work from home jobs and are blissfully oblivious to.the reality of others whilst smugly patting themselves on the the back for doing the " right thing"?

Also, the poster isn't really 'ill'. She did test positive but says she's feeling better now.

On MN, it may be feasible to stay at home every time you have the slightest sniffle, but in the real world it isn't.

GIorious · 28/05/2023 11:47

Just to add, I take responsibility for my own health and always have. I've always had my flu jabs and if flu was rife near me I'd be a bit more wary about going into crowded spaces, pre covid. Covid is just another risk I have to take into account now. I've had seven jabs and covid nine times, because jabs don't work so well for me being immunosuppressed. DD is a teacher in a SEND school (where testing is no longer a thing and covid is treated the same as any other illness) so she brings home all sorts of bugs, including covid, all the time.

I don't think it's selfish to go to work (or even a festival) if you are a bit unwell and I never have. I do think it would be selfish to expect people to lose wages/their job on my account.

It was ever thus. See also the people on here during lockdown berating others for going to the supermarket more than once a week while happily ordering groceries and garden furniture online to be packed and delivered by low paid staff in crowded unventilated warehouses. Congratulating themselves for being so responsible while passing their risk on to others on zero hour contracts.

Yep.my youngest son goes to an SEN school, there is no.requirement to.attempt to.test him.anymore ,even when he's coughing eff ,they say as long as he's well.enough he can be in school.
