Tunaparsnip · 26/05/2023 16:52

Would it be wrong to use cottage cheese instead of proper cheese on a pizza?

Trying to save calories but really want pizza.

Sounds horrific sorry

midgemadgemodge · 26/05/2023 16:53

Wouldn't very thin cheese slices be better ?

ChessieFL · 26/05/2023 16:53

That would be utterly disgusting. Just eat the normal pizza!

Itwasgoodwhileitlasted · 26/05/2023 16:54

I'd give it a go op. Let us know what it's like!

Yellowtowelsdear · 26/05/2023 16:54

The word ‘unreasonable’ isn’t strong enough.

Kyse23 · 26/05/2023 16:55

Sainsburys used to do one that was pretty low calorie and nice
Here, they do others but they're all about 500 cals for the whole thing

Don’t try and adapt old favourite in to healthier versions which make them revolting and so draw you back to the original version.

instead make new dishes that you enjoy. So how about a big tuna and grain salad with a dollop of cottage cheese?

lardida · 26/05/2023 16:57

Eat the pizza. Honestly

Fairislefandango · 26/05/2023 16:59

Urgh - no!

Tunaparsnip · 26/05/2023 17:00

OK judging by the reaction on here and DH nearly choking when I suggested it, I have decided on a compromise- just a small homemade pizza with salad and a side of cottage cheese.

Maybe another time 😆

Perfect for dieting, it’ll taste so disgusting that you won’t want to eat any more.

But seriously there isn’t even that much cheese on an authentic pizza. I’d say have it properly, it’ll be satisfying and you won’t feel then need to snack later like you will if you ruin it with cottage cheese 🤢

MrsR87 · 26/05/2023 17:00

I love Pizza but that sounds grim!

Just put less normal cheese on that you normally would. You’d be surprised by how little cheese you actually need on a pizza!

wineandsun · 26/05/2023 17:01

I choose a pizza in Milan and it had cottage cheese on(didn't know ehat I was ordering) it was disgusting. Sloppy and made the base wet.

saltinesandcoffeecups · 26/05/2023 17:02

Honestly just eat less of a normal pizza. This will be unsatisfying and you’ll end up eating it and then still craving normal pizza. In other words substitute when it truly doesn’t matter. But never try to sub when it does.

Neverinamonthofsundays · 26/05/2023 17:03

It is the dough that has the calories so maybe swap it out for a wrap and make it that way? Or dr oetker does a beetroot based pizza which is really nice for less cals.

TheFlis12345 · 26/05/2023 17:08

A small amount of strong flavoured cheese like mature cheddar would be much better.

So cheese on your pizza and cottage cheese?

if you’re going with the pizza with cheese, bypass the cottage cheese side

Pot8ohs · 26/05/2023 17:14

I think it would work with mushrooms and garlic sauce as a base. Maybe some spinach. The garlicky mushrooms would need to be a bit salty so they sweeten up the cottage cheese. Ricotta is used in a similar way I’m pretty sure.

CustardySergeant · 26/05/2023 17:16

Instead of cottage cheese can you find a reduced fat version of the cheese you would normally use?

spiderlight · 26/05/2023 17:16

Many, many years ago, Pizzaland (remember them) did a low-calorie pizza with cottage cheese and rocket and it was amazing! It was my default order every time we went there.

Glad you’re going with the real cheese on the pizza but I wouldn’t have a side of cheese, surely that’s not necessary especially if you’re trying to lose weight?!

evtheria · 26/05/2023 17:17

Maybe if you blend it into the tomato sauce beforehand, then use as normal... but not just dumped on top :(

BarbaraofSeville · 26/05/2023 17:17

If you want cottage cheese, have it on a baked potato.

If you want pizza, have a very thin base and not a huge amount of cheese, but some peppers, mushrooms, onions and olives and just a sprinkling of cheese. Don't have loads and have salad with it.

Hoppinggreen · 26/05/2023 17:19

either eat pizza or don’t

villamariavintrapp · 26/05/2023 17:26

Hmm I think cottage cheese would be fine! It melts doesn't it? But judging by everyone else's responses I might be wrong..
