Would it be wrong to use cottage cheese instead of proper cheese on a pizza?

Trying to save calories but really want pizza.

I'm phoning the police.

It doesn't melt, doesn't brown and makes whatever is underneath go soggy. You would save calories because the result would be disgusting.

Use one with big curds and use as little of the liquid as possible. It will be a revelation.

It is delicious in cooking.
Lots of black pepper, sweet roasted tomatoes and a handful of rocket on the top.

Oh my god. Vom

Don't think cottage cheese would work very well. If you want pizza without cheese, why not look at the many similar dishes to pizza? Flammkuchen has a thinner crust so less carbs but does use some creme fraiche. Pissaladière - onion, anchovies or tuna, olives or tapenade. Lamacun- think there's various recipes but all without cheese.

Ewww..... just ewww to the cottage cheese on a pizza 🤢🤢 jamie Oliver does a very good low fat one. It was on his last TV series.....low fat yogurt and flour for the base then roasted veggies for topping tastes lovely too x

What about parmesan? You only need a tiny bit and it's great on pizza

musixa · 26/05/2023 19:16

I'd just make it without cheese/have a smaller portion. Cottage cheese on pizza will be rank.

Tunaparsnip · 26/05/2023 19:32

I used a small amount of dough to make a very thin A5 size pizza, it was as thin as it could be without breaking. Little bit of tomato and 35g of cheese. Lots of red pepper and mushroom and it came in at about 350 calories!

Spoon of cottage cheese and a salad on the size and it was actually a great dinner that was exactly what I needed.

I’m still curious to try the cottage cheese on pizza sometime!

I think it would work with mushrooms and garlic sauce as a base. Maybe some spinach. The garlicky mushrooms would need to be a bit salty so they sweeten up the cottage cheese. Ricotta is used in a similar way I’m pretty sure.

This sounds right up my street!

I love cottage cheese but it has to be full fat and Longley Farm preferably

Cottage cheese and ricotta cheese are very similar, ricotta doesnt have as much curds, but it is a 'cottage' cheese in that it is a fresh soft cheese. Ive had many a pizza with ricotta on it, usually with spinach. Also had pizza with mascarpone too which is also a fresh soft cheese although more rich and creamy

Not sure why there is so much horror at the suggestion

Personally I would mix it up with parmesan or pecorino on the pizza but then you might feel that defeats the object.

Totally 🤮

HuntingoftheSnark · 26/05/2023 20:16

Pizza Express used to do a pizza (they may still do) with the middle cut out and replaced with salad. No cottage cheese, thankfully.

Mum? Is that you?

childhood of bizarre meals here...

I wish I could vote yabu more than once

Thesunnymood · 26/05/2023 20:50

The curds from it could work.

When I was losing weight I had a day off a week. It really helped because moments like this would make me proper miserable.

MotherOfVizslas · 26/05/2023 21:17

I tried a pizza once that had mozzarella, cheddar, cottage cheese and Parmesan on it and it was actually really nice!!

HereBeFuckery · 26/05/2023 21:39

I put a thin layer of cottage cheese on top of lasagne, with lasagne sheets below and above, then a white sauce and cheese layer on top as normal. The baked cottage cheese layer is the actual best bit! I'd go for it!
