The Theatre Royal Stratford East is putting on a show and have blocked out 2 dates as "Blackout" nights where they encourage (but I don't think plan to enforce) that only black people may attend these performances.

I saw them discussing it on Piers Morgan and neither of the guests advocating for it were able to convince me that this type of segregation was at all beneficial.

Does anybody think this is a good idea? Personally I think segregation based on skin colour has no place in society, no matter who benefits from it. But I'm interested to hear from others who might away it differently?

Where is the diversity in the audience on the other days?

And while we're at it, do you think Travellers shouldn't be allowed to segregate themselves from the rest of the "community"? Should they be forced to live in houses like everyone else? Should they not be allowed to stay within their own culture and ethnic groups? Or is it just black people who you don't think should be allowed to have 2 days when they're not the minority in the crowd?

Since the vast number of commentators on this thread are pro racial segregation, I am clearly part of a minority group and, as such (if we go along with the rules that have been explained to me) it is NOT my job to educate you on my views and feelings on this subject. I would, therefore, urge you to 'educate' yourself by watching podcasts/reading books and articles etc by people who do not share your view that racial segregation is a good thing for our society. I'm happy to wait whilst you're busy 'educating' yourself.

I'm unsure as to why you've continued to engage considering you're unwilling to do so in a productive or authentic way 🤷🏻‍♀️

@HeartBrokenWife the reason why half the UK voted leave was because they didn't want immigration and they wanted their borders back. I don't know whether you voted or not. It does sound hypocritical to judge what they are asking for they are not promoting a divide they are asking for 1 night. It does say on their website they will not turn you away if you did turn up.

Do you feel happy or sad now that you can't call me names because you thought I was pro Brexit? Sorry if I have upset you because I've derailed your preconceived notions about me, but you really need to educate yourself a little more in order to understand that you cannot label people who disagree with you in such a broad brush way.

You cannot judge me to be acting in bad faith. I believe whatever I say I believe and you cannot tell me otherwise. I am offended by your judgement. You should accept me for who I am.

Everyone should be accepted for who they tell you they are!!! Please educate yourself because you aren't sticking to the script. If you refuse to believe that I am who I say I am, you are making this thread an unsafe space for me 😢

It's interesting that black people are often used to justify a way of thinking on Mumsnet e.g. insert black into that and see if it's still not offensive to you etc.

However, when parallels are made about women only spaces on this thread - that is unacceptable.

I do not know how posters can read thoughtful and in depth posts from people like Refrosty and still not understand. But I know it's because they have no interest in seeing the other perspective.

The posts implying that back people enjoy being victims is a new trend I've seen emerging from this site. Deeply unpleasant and upsetting to read.

You don't seem able to spot the quite glaring difference between historical, enforced racial segregation policy and a minority group being being encouraged to attend one night at the theatre with people from their community group. That's all it is. White people haven't been told they can't go! If you think that's 'segregation' then you really need re-educating. It's like gay clubs - straight people go, but it's generally overwhelmingly gay people, because they have shared experience and interests. But no one tells straight people they can't go. The fact is, you just don't understand what segregation actually is, and your digging your heels in because you think you know best with no intention of listening. As PP said, totally disingenuous.
