Is this incredibly racist or am I being sensitive

Have had to nc as incredibly outing.

I enquired about a blossom tree installation in my restaurant, someone got back to me with a quote and I said great what’s his timescales. He let me know a date and I told him it would be suitable but nothing yet agreed.
Next thing I know he says he requires a 50% deposit because he’s ordered the blossom for the tree.
I never asked him to order the blossom, never agreed that the work would actually be done and certainly didn’t agree to give him 50% upfront.

I’ve had to block him as he is continuously ringing and messaging me and is just being plain nasty, to both my husband and I.

I think he’s gone a step too far with this Facebook post though, the reference to scrubbing korma pans and polishing shoes just gets to me, I feel he’s being racist, we have an Indian restaurant but I don’t actually go/work there so he’s obviously made that up to be spiteful.

It's almost like he was trying to be racist, but his rant make no sense at all so when I first read it it didn't look racist, just very very weird... (Like, why would we care about someone cleaning pans in a restaurant???)

He's a nasty person and you dodged a bullet, I'd report any review he makes and move on really, don't waste your breath.

Yes, have now, and I called it out when it became blatant, but at the time saying that someone was scrubbing a korma pan in an Indian restaurant was not conclusive.

No such thing as a korma pan so what was the point in him mentioning it?

Ffs, there were no “korma pans” because OP wasn’t there! He literally used that expression in a lie, with the full intention of being racist! He has also said further comments on here, which were also racist, and were deleted by Mumsnet.

OP doesn’t work in an Indian restaurant though. And his now-deleted comments were offensive.

Oh come off it. That's not racist, that's him pissed off that you agreed a date (and therefore he assumed you agreed to the quote) and you've since ignored him.

He shouldn't have done the work without a deposit, that's poor business on his behalf, but you've clearly led him on.

You don't agree a date with a tradesman if you have no intention of using him.

This doesnt make sense, if you'd be unhappy to fork out a deposit, in this case 4k to an unknown tradesman, then surely you wouldnt use them at all, OP was in the business of asking him to do a piece of work for her so whether hes on this or that website/VAT registered (and neither of those are requirements dependent on income), is irrelevant, she either wanted to do business with him or didnt.

The fact he's an arsehole is a different kettle of fish

Not at all. I’ve previously had gardening, electrical and other work done by recommended sole traders. As if happens I have generally been happy with their work. But I wouldn’t have forked out 50% deposit up front, even though they were recommended by trusted friends and they never asked.

I have just paid a £5000 deposit for my new kitchen, an amount that is nowhere near 50%. That company is VAT registered and I looked up their accounts on Companies House (as well as them being highly recommended). Surely it’s common sense not to fork out sums of money in advance without doing a spot of due diligence?

I think it's worrying you are minimising his racist comments as not racist because you have "faced far worst" comments. Just because it isn't AS bad doesn't mean it still isn't bad

Do you have a special korma pan? Special madras pan? Special jalfrezi pan?

isadoradancing123 · 22/05/2023 20:24

I dont see any racism there, why are people going over everything with a fine tooth comb looking for racism in everything

Ammez · 22/05/2023 20:25
