Feel this way about the death of Andy Rourke of The Smiths. They are one of my favourite bands of all time and just listening to them now. He was such a talented musician, he's the same age as my father, and I feel sad knowing he had such a cruel disease.

It's not so much the people sometimes, as what they represent. I was bizarrely really saddened last year by the death of Judith Durham from The Seekers (one for the kids). Her voice was such a part of my childhood.
Hey There, Georgy Girl still makes me misty eyes. Brings back the 60s effortlessly.

100% this.

People can experience all sorts of emotions in different situations. Some TV shows, characters, actors form big parts of peoples lives, especially as teens/young adults. It's not like people are generally howling and taking bereavement leave from work or anything

Haven't rtwt but Vicky Phelan, still catches in my throat if I see or hear her on a news programme. Such a strong admirable woman ☹️

angelicaelizapeggy · 25/05/2023 10:46

Aaliyah, Brittany Murphy, Peaches Geldof and Sean Lock were the ones I felt most shock at

Gigglemous · 25/05/2023 10:52

Chester Benington from Linkin Park. I'm still crushed. His voice and those first two albums helped me through very very depressed and suicidal teenage years. Still not over it.

Eyesofdisarray · 25/05/2023 10:59

Freddie Mercury
Chris Cornell
😥

I get this completely, I struggle to listen to those albums now as it's so obvious how much pain he was in Sad

The recent passing of Paul o’Grady, he seemed such a kind man and was also very funny.

I missed George Harrison when he died,
. He was my favourite Beatle. Now I’m showing my age!

DontEatCheeseSandwiches · 25/05/2023 19:22

Cory Monteith from Glee :(

beguilingeyes · 25/05/2023 22:35

John Lennon's death is a long time ago now, but it was such an appalling murder. We watched Get Back recently and what a loss he was.
That asshole Mark Chapman says he regrets it now..I hope they never let him out.

Princessconsuelabananahammock9 · 26/05/2023 01:42

Tupac.

I completely agree. He was a genius.

Yes. I saw him several times in concert and feel absolutely privileged to have done so.

I was very sad about Freddie Mercury and George Michael, but LC dying... he got me through some dark times - I felt genuine grief.

neilyoungismyhero · 26/05/2023 02:15

Tina Turner

They don't get to me as such as I didn't know them. I was sad about Chester Bennington & glad I saw Linkin Park when I had the chance.
Recently I felt sad about Paul O Grady & I felt sad for John Lydon when his wife recently died.
Despite what people think of him with his outspoken views & image he seemed to be devoted to his wife. He was interviewed by Holly W & Phil S just before she died & he almost broke down in tears on live TV. You could see the love he had for her in his eyes in photos from when they were younger

Yes , I agree.John lydon’s wife. He was absolutely devoted to her .

I'm feeling pretty sad about Ray Stevenson, who's death has just been announced :( he was a fantastic actor

Yes, he was fabulous in Rome. Very sad, and he was still quite young.

007DoubleOSeven · 31/05/2023 21:39

@lieselotte very sexy
Yes, ithink he had a young son too who must be heartbroken

Fallingoffacliff · 31/05/2023 21:40

George Michael.
Paul O'Grady.

blueshoes · 31/05/2023 21:46

Going down this thread. Nope, not feeling it.

Maybe Princess Diana. Gary Speed (so tragic and unfair).

MyFavouritePlace · 06/10/2023 23:36

George Michael for me.

ThinWomansBrain · 06/10/2023 23:39

Kirsty McColl, Jerry Dammers

Comtesse · 06/10/2023 23:41

Bowel babe…..

Universalsnail · 06/10/2023 23:43

Peaches Geldof. She was about the same age as me and her kid was the same age as mine and it was just very tragic considering her own mother's similar death. I thought about it for quite a while after.

ShermansSherberts · 06/10/2023 23:45

Sinead O Connor.

Princess Di

I know I wasn't born then but Marilyn Monroe. That song by Elton John just gets me right in the feels.

The Queen. I know it's odd but I think things have felt a bit weird since she died, like nobody is 'in charge.' Charles is absolutely not the same.

I spent ages on a crossword clue last weekend about the most senior lawyers, 5,7, I got Counsel but because Queen's didn't fit I was stumped, a couple of hours later I got King's counsel!
