Whats going on??

I'm in need of a rational answer because I'm quietly freaking out!

Last night I couldn't find my tv remote, looked everywhere, under cushions, looked under furniture, even lifted the furniture, looked in the fridge...literally looked everywhere at least 3 times, then found it under the sofa that was looked under and lifted previously.

Came home earlier today to find my tv box was dangling off the edge of the tv unit, it hadn't been on the edge and it hadn't been moved before I went out.

Now tonight, I was drying my hair when I knocked my hair serum off my dressing table, thought id get it after i'd dried my hair...no where to be found!

I've looked in every nook and cranny, in drawers, under bed covers, in shoes, under bed...every where you can think off, DBF has had a good look too

Whats going on? Rational explanation please???

My dog jumped up to the TV set, swiped the remote for a chew toy and snaffled to serum bottle while we went to the pub. Sorry, I didn’t realise she was that bored.

Yes quite often. Sometimes I don't even bother looking as I know I will come across it at some point 🤣

another one who this happens to all the time. I dropped my vape under my makeup table last week and it actually vanished. Today I found it in my dressing gown pocket…and I’ve been wearing that all week without noticing, plus it was one of the first places I checked. Same with remote, keys and clothes. I thought maybe it’s hormones or maybe I was having mini blackouts or just weird memory dejavu shit. Even went for an eye test and specifically asked for my peripheral vision to be checked in case I had a blind spot hahaha. I dunno what it is but we’re not alone so I’m thinking hormonal blackouts!

Our brains trick us all the time. I recently went to make a cup of tea and couldn't find the teabags anywhere, checked cupboards, behind stuff etc. Left the kitchen, came back three mins later to see box of teabags, and mug with teabag in the middle of the work surface. FREAKED OUT. Literally phoned DH in tears telling him we had a ghost. Turned out he put the teabags and the cup there before he left for work. My brain had somehow completely tuned them out on the worktop while I searched all the cupboards!

Are you sure there was actually a hair serum bottle there? Or is your brain tricking you? Did you definitely check the same place 3 times for the remote or might you have missed it?

You think you notice much more of the world than you do, and you also think you remember much more of your own action than you do.

The remote - you just didn’t see it the first time you looked.

The TV box - you knocked it off and didn’t notice at the time.

The hair serum - you already picked it up absent mindedly.

Have you ever seen the gorilla video? Shows you how much attention we pay.

Certain...I'd used it on my wet hair before hair drying.

I've looked on the dressing table, in my hair stuff box.

Honestly, I've looked EVERYWHERE.

I've even took photos of everywhere it could be and zoomed in.

It's sending me over the edge

One thing that can help is taking a load of photos of the room if you've lost something and send them to a friend and see if they can help. My friend does that to me and I can often see what she's looking for when she can't.

Years ago I went to wash the dishes and couldn't find the plug for the sink anywhere. I knew I had seen it on the draining board earlier so I literally searched high and low for half an hour, down the back of the sink and anywhere else it might have fallen. Eventually I gave up and left the dirty dishes on the side, and I sat down in a chair near the sink. When I stood back up 10 minutes later, I looked into the sink and lo and behold, there was the plug sitting in the middle, just beside the plug hole.

All manner of weird shit used to happen in that house though 😮
