Fuck off, I hate you and I will disconnect so it makes no difference. God awful invention.

OP posts:
PurBal · 19/05/2023 19:41

Yep. On larger bottles means I can’t tighten the lid up properly so it goes flat. Brilliant.

PuttingDownRoots · 19/05/2023 19:41

They don't go back on properly unless you detach them!

Guiltridden12345 · 19/05/2023 19:42

What?

EmmaEmerald · 19/05/2023 19:42

Oh I'm so glad, I thought it was just me who hates this!

Connect3 · 19/05/2023 19:43

There was the same debate when ring pull were first attached to the cans....

FooFighter99 · 19/05/2023 19:45

Who the fuck is throwing the lids away separately anyway??? The mind boggles

TruJay · 19/05/2023 19:51

Haha this is everyone in my family 😂we all hate the things

CaroleSinger · 19/05/2023 19:52

That's the problem, it plays straight into the human nature of wanting to pull them off and snap them lol

SunnySaturdayMorning · 19/05/2023 19:53

Agreed. I will deliberately not recycle them.

Lids used to not be recyclable. On the communal bins for my flats it still has the poster on it that you can recycle plastic bottles (no lids).

RosettaTheGardenFairy · 19/05/2023 19:54

Our local dog charity collects the caps and then sells them in bulk to raise funds. Kids used to take them to school every Friday for the donation bin. So that's that little side earner gone now. Kids used to love getting involved and helping the dogs. Just one more community thing gone, bloody sick of it.

TidyDancer · 19/05/2023 19:56

Oh I hate these. I deliberately take them off but that annoys me as well because you're left with that sharp bit of plastic still on it.

Who buys them please? Just curious.

the recycling bins at my block are more baffling by the day.

Genuinely thought this was someone having a mental health crisis

Like wanting to bring back teletext? 😂

I love this! I’m forever losing lids, they fall off and roll under things and I can’t reach them or the kids drop them and they’re never found again. We are a rather clumsy family though Grin

timetorefresh · 19/05/2023 20:02

I'm stood her drinking some coke, being jabbed by the lid, wondering how I've messed up that it's not come off. Then I open this thread... and read the lid. Ffs I want the lid off

ShimmeringShirts · 19/05/2023 20:03

@SunnySaturdayMorning nothing like sticking it to the man eh… Hmm

There's quite a few companies now that recycle these hard plastics into things like garden furniture, playground items etc. The school collects them in barrels and donates them to the dog charity who sells them to a company that recycles them into various products. Last school newsletter had a picture of a bench they'd made, placed in a dog park. Photo had about 10 dogs sat on the bench, was cute. School says they're stopping it now because of these attached caps, but will think of another way to work with the charity. Such a shame, was so easy for the kids to get involved.

EmmaEmerald · 19/05/2023 20:11

Rosetta but the caps are easy to break off?

I don’t recycle anything anyway so it’s not much of a change tbh 🤷‍♀️

Not sure if it's been stopped by the school, the dog charity or the recycling company, but it's being stopped and the barrels will be gone after the summer holidays, and the reason given was these attached caps. It'll probably be replaced by a sponsored walk or some such nonsense, just not the same. The level of happiness my 6 & 4 year old get from collecting the caps at home and putting them in the barrel is unparalleled - genuinely their favourite thing!

Longdarkcloud · 19/05/2023 20:24

I also hate these tops — thought I might be unreasonable to pleased to see many feel as I do.. I’m older and with weaker hands they are harder to remove and replace.

greey · 19/05/2023 20:30

I think I must live under a rock but I've never seen these?

It’s on all coke bottles now.
