7 months ago I had covid. I lost half a stone. Before covid I weighed 10 stone . I went down to 9 stone 7. Movng forward I decided to cut out eating sugar for 4 weeks and when I weighed myself at the end of the period, I had dropped some weighted and weighed in at 9 stone 4. All good or so I thought.

I had a text from my GP surgery to have my blood pressure done. Whilst I was there, the nurse said would you like me to check your height and weight and I said yes please. She checked my height and I was 5 foot 6 and asked me to get on the scales. She said the weight was in kg which I could not understand so she converted it to stones and told me I was 10 stone 2. I said that is impossible because I weighed myself this morning first thing with no clothes and no food and I weighed 9 stone 3 and I have definately lost weight since I had coved etc and my arms and face definately look thinner and my clothes are lose. She said oh these are not digital scales so she said come with me and we went to another room and I got on the digital scales and it was a difference of 2 pounds so she said I was 1 was 10 stone.

I said no I weighed myself this morning and I was half a stone lighter. She said how old are your scales and I said about 7 years old so she said they are probably too old to be accurate so buy some new scales.

Sorry but pre covid I was 10 stone and I have most definately dropped weight so I think her scales are not accurate. I weigh myself on a hard surface the same surface as the nurse weighed me in the surgery.

After I left I went to Argos and bought some new scales. They cost me £12 which I was reluctant to pay because I did not see how my ones could be so inaccurate. I will weigh myself in the morning as I did this morning, first thing, no clothes no food and with an empty bladder and if I reach the same weight as I did today then I wm taking the new scales back to Argos and getting a refund because that will prove that I do not need to buy new scales and that there is nothing wrong with the ones I have been using up to now.

ok I was wearing clothes at the surgery and had some breakfast but the nurse said it should not be too much different because I was wearing a very thin dress but it was difference of 71b

Any advce. There is NO WAY I am 10 stone

This reminds me of when I nearly made a mortifying scale-based error.

There was a time when I went to the gym three times a week, and didn't eat much in the evenings I didn't exercise. I weighed myself at the gym, and was about 10.5 stone.

I then left my job, met current DP, stopped going to the gym and started going out on the piss with DP, and having a great time. Had no scales at home.

Bought some scales, got on them and they said I was 11.5 stone. WHAT NONSENSE, I thought, and packed them back up to return them to the shop and be outraged. Just before I stormed up to the counter at Boots, thought I'd check how 'inaccurate' they were by getting on their big in-store scales. Oddly, they too said I was 11.5 stone. This would also explain why all my clothes were too small.

Denial was strong.

I bet the GP is going to have a giggle with her partner tonight about this

AllGussiedUp · 19/05/2023 14:58

This reminds me of the Michael McIntyre sketch about his wife being happy if she’s a size 8 in one shop but then the day is ruined if she’s a size 12 in the next shop.

Your body hasn’t changed from when you weighed yourself in the bathroom to when you were weighed at the doctors. The numbers are irrelevant.

Mercurial123 · 19/05/2023 14:59

OP Why can't you accept your scales may not be accurate?

TabithaTitanium · 19/05/2023 15:00

This is the reason I always weigh myself first thing in the morning, butt naked, after having been to the loo 🤣😂😆

They say weigh yourself on a hard floor not carpet first thing in the morning. The issue I have is differet areas of my kitchen floor give me diifferent results. By th door I am one weight By th window I am another and by the washing maching another. Wich one i the most accurate so I know which spot to use each time

you fruitcake op!

Is that the same 'they' that tell you to weigh yourself once a week, never more?

If they did know anything about weighing anything, they'd know that is rubbish for a start.

Barrysmintybiscuits · 19/05/2023 15:08

Oh OP. You sounds like my mum. Obsessed with her weight, always talking about how she has gained or lost and her whole day ruined if the scale says something different than yesterday 😞

Prettylittleroses · 19/05/2023 15:09

Why are you not weighing yourself now? Why do you want to wait till the morning? Is it so you can see a lower number?

do you have a history of eating disorders?

gamerchick · 19/05/2023 15:09

As much as I love an indignant post in the afternoon. Throw the scales out OP and use a tape measure. Scales are a stupid idea and can easily get obsessed by them.

God no! OP will obsess over the individual measurements instead!

MrsDoylesDoily · 19/05/2023 15:13

I'm trying to think of the last time I thought someone's bladder must be empty because they look so slim 🤔

Lottle · 19/05/2023 15:36

I can lose half a stone if I put my scales on carpet

YouOKHun · 19/05/2023 15:43

I weight 8st 1lb first thing in the morning and by 10.00am I am 11st 6lb. I am wondering if it’s the concrete cornflakes I’m having for breakfast?

Seriously OP, whatever various scales read it’s all with in the healthy range. The best thing you could do is chuck out the scales and don’t buy new ones.

MintJulia · 19/05/2023 15:48

What does it matter? Surgery scales are checked regularly so if they say you at 10 stone, then you are.

But if you are healthy, comfortable and your clothes fit, it doesn't really matter, does it !

Beneficialchampion2 · 19/05/2023 16:16

Staying here for when the penny drops and you weigh yourself and the doctor is right.

Chances of two sets of scales being wrong in a GP surgery are slim.

You are in denial, weigh yourself again at home on both new and old scales on a solid level surface.

ActDottie · 19/05/2023 16:27

Your thread reads as someone who is unhealthily obsessed with their weight

midgemadgemodge · 19/05/2023 16:39

Clothes

Cup of tea ?

midgemadgemodge · 19/05/2023 16:40

Doesn't matter anyway as both are healthy

Landndialamrhf · 19/05/2023 16:47

You know you’ve lost weight
you were happy with how you looked and you are presumably healthy,
why does it matter what the number on the scale says
why are you going around telling everyone your new weight? And why does that matter that you’ve done that? Also surely you’d weigh yourself now to compare, not in the morning.

if your scales are out by 2-3lbs, and you had breakfast and a coffee and water, then put on clothes and shoes, that could easily make up the difference. But I think you are unhealthily worried about this.

Hedonism · 19/05/2023 16:57

Maybe your scales have always been a few lb out, and you were 10.5stone before covid and now you are 10stone.

What difference does it make which scales are right? Are you a boxer or a racing jockey maybe?
Does anyone else care? (hint: no)
Do your clothes still fit?

Flute56 · 19/05/2023 20:00

I an ok with how I look.

Look at people like Kate Middleton. Whenever she is photographed people say she is too thin and need to eat more. What would you say about that. I also work with one woman who is quite tall probably about 5 foot 9 and she is very thin. I would say she is a size 10 and also look at Twiggy when she was first modelling. She was so thin she looked anorexic but she said she eat healthily and it was just her shape which she could do nothing about

TorringtonDean · 19/05/2023 20:20

Most people only worry about their weight for health reasons. Your BMI must be OK. So what’s the fuss about the GP’s scales? I don’t get it. Most people are not like Kate Middleton!

FannythePinkFlamingo · 19/05/2023 20:24

It’s just a number OP. If you’re happy with the way you look and your clothes fit then what is the issue?
