Being induced tomorrow, baby has stopped growing

Posting for traffic, I don't know if I need a handhold, to hear others stories of similar or just to offload my anxiety.

38 weeks and 2 days, went for a growth scan today and to my shock, they've asked me to go home and get stuff ready and be back in for 10am tomorrow for induction.

Reason for scans throughout is history of 13 miscarriages, covid in pregnancy and a previous low lying placenta (had moved up at 36 week scan).

Baby hasn't grown much if at all since 2 weeks ago, they sent me up to ward for monitoring and baby's movements and heart rate are fine, my fluid is fine but my placenta has more or less stopped working. Blood flow and oxygen okay.

I was due to be induced on due date, thought I'd have some time to prepare myself and relax but I'm in a tizz now. We've got everything and babies bag and mine is ready to go but I feel so rushed and unprepared now 😢

I'm worried about about her, they've put her estimated weight at 6lb but advised me to grab some tiny baby clothes if I hadn't already so we made a last minute trip to Asda tonight for those, just bought 8 vests and 8 babygrows in case she's bigger than expected.

They will be using the rods and see how I get on but I'm so scared all of a sudden.

Any words or wisdom or advice? Thank you x

Waaah so exciting! This sounds weird but enjoy every minute, giving birth is awesome.

YoucancallmeKAREN · 18/05/2023 20:19

All of my Grandchildren have been born between 32 and 35 weeks, all are thriving.
Try and get as much rest tonight as possible, x

My placenta stopping working at 38 weeks and I was induced. My baby was born absolutely fine but when afterbirth emerged it was partly/mostly grey and I was told my baby probably had not got many nutrients for the last few days. It only happened with my first though. I didn't have the same issue with second and third babies.

99redballoons123 · 18/05/2023 21:00

Good luck op!

lavagal · 18/05/2023 21:01

You can do this 💪🏻

FeedMeTiramisu · 18/05/2023 21:22

My baby was born at 31 weeks. Weighed 2lb 2oz. Hadn't grown for weeks due to pre eclampsia. She was very small but fine with no health problems

GMsAWinner · 18/05/2023 21:51

Good luck OP. I was induced at 37 weeks as I'd lost all my amniotic fluid. Prior to that DD was forecast to be 5lb at term, so I was a little concerned. She ended up been 6lbs2ozs. You'll have your own team at the end (looking after you) and there will be a team brought in for the baby (usually for routine checks, but obviously for a proper check) - you might be tired at the end, but you'll be well looked after.

Seryse · 18/05/2023 23:17

Good luck OP, you got this!!

totallyaddictedtocheese · 19/05/2023 10:18

Good luck! I'm sure you're doing amazingly ❤

elm26 · 19/05/2023 11:59

Thanks everyone!

Sadly pethidine stopped my contractions at around midnight.

I'm being examined at 13:30 to see if I've dilated at all so that they can break my waters. If not, time for the 6 hour pessary gel instead 😪

Hungryfrogs23 · 19/05/2023 12:08

I've heard good things about the gel, and the fact you were contracting before means your body is doing something! Induction is a long and frustrating process but you are getting ever nearer to meeting your little one. Hopefully the gel does the trick and those contractions come back nice and productively. Sending you lots of strength 💪 ❤

I had emergency c section in July because baby had stopped growing. It was scary and

theotherfossilsister · 19/05/2023 12:16

Sorry clicked post too soon, it was scary and we had a neonatal stay, but it was ok in the end. Hope things are ok for you.

theotherfossilsister · 19/05/2023 12:16

I'm sure they will be. Although I know how scary and surreal it is

Sceptre86 · 19/05/2023 12:21

I went through this although I was 36 weeks at the time. The induction failed and led to an emergency section. She was 5lb 10oz, healthy but small. Pack tiny baby clothes, go in positive, ask all the questions you want and if you intend to breastfeed ask for lots of help to make sure latch is correct.

Mine is 7 years old and 98th percentile for height and 50th for weight now. She's absolutely thriving but yes the early days were a bit rough.

Best of luck op. x

ADHDDDDDDDBOOM · 19/05/2023 12:21

It's a long old process! Good luck!

uncomfortablydumb53 · 19/05/2023 12:25

I had the gel which started things off then had the IV which quickly brought him into the world.
I do hope you will be holding your DD in your arms very soon

JustDanceAddict · 19/05/2023 12:31

Hope baby is out by now and all is well.
I’ve never heard of rods - they sound horrific. I was induced 21 years ago / had 3 lots of gel - the last lot kicked contractions off but I didn’t progress and ended up w a c/s. Wasn’t great but we all ended up fine in the end thankfully!!!

BellatrixLestrangesHeatedCurlers · 19/05/2023 12:52

Rods sounds like the sort of thing that men would never be expected to tolerate if they had to give birth! Ridiculous. Hope all is ticking over nicely OP (and yeah, the quality of some birthing partners are shocking - had a therapist who was an ex-midwife and she said twas ever thus, but it's worse with the introduction of phones).

Americano75 · 19/05/2023 12:56

Come on baby!

elm26 · 19/05/2023 13:12

I'm still going, being checked soon hopefully they can break my waters x

WimpoleHat · 19/05/2023 13:15

All best wishes, OP - hopefully won’t be too long now.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 19/05/2023 13:15

Really hope you’re OK and all goes well OP

ladycarlotta · 19/05/2023 14:37

oh, OP, so sorry you're going through it. Hopefully you'll have your perfect little one in your arms soon.

If it's helpful to know, my baby also stopped growing in the last 4 weeks or so of my pregnancy. I was due a C-section anyway because she was breech, so they whipped her out and she was smallish (6lb) but perfectly healthy and alert. I have no idea whether there was anything up with her growth - the scans and fundal height measurements do have a level of fallibility, and I've heard enough stories of women being told their babies were worryingly small only to birth a 9lb-er - but she tracked the same percentile for years after so I think that was always the size she was meant to be. Hope that's reassuring.

maddening · 19/05/2023 17:25

I am sure things will be moving more for you soon x
