Being induced tomorrow, baby has stopped growing

Posting for traffic, I don't know if I need a handhold, to hear others stories of similar or just to offload my anxiety.

38 weeks and 2 days, went for a growth scan today and to my shock, they've asked me to go home and get stuff ready and be back in for 10am tomorrow for induction.

Reason for scans throughout is history of 13 miscarriages, covid in pregnancy and a previous low lying placenta (had moved up at 36 week scan).

Baby hasn't grown much if at all since 2 weeks ago, they sent me up to ward for monitoring and baby's movements and heart rate are fine, my fluid is fine but my placenta has more or less stopped working. Blood flow and oxygen okay.

I was due to be induced on due date, thought I'd have some time to prepare myself and relax but I'm in a tizz now. We've got everything and babies bag and mine is ready to go but I feel so rushed and unprepared now 😢

I'm worried about about her, they've put her estimated weight at 6lb but advised me to grab some tiny baby clothes if I hadn't already so we made a last minute trip to Asda tonight for those, just bought 8 vests and 8 babygrows in case she's bigger than expected.

They will be using the rods and see how I get on but I'm so scared all of a sudden.

Any words or wisdom or advice? Thank you x

Last year at 38 weeks roughly, my bump was measuring too small so they sent me for a scan, then found the baby measuring too big, concerned about gestational diabetes. So they induced, baby was just over 7lbs. The scans mean shit, they are just being cautious! Good luck, all the best with your lovely little baby 💐

Panda8383 · 16/05/2023 22:25

Good luck tomorrow, you’ll have your beautiful baby in your arms soon :-) take it easy and relax x

Izzywhizzy123 · 16/05/2023 22:25

I was induced at 38+1 for the same reason. It was all fine, she was born with no complications and we were sent home the same day. Now a happy 8 month old. Good luck! She'll be in your arms so soon ♥️

Therandomtrekker · 16/05/2023 22:38

I had diabetes both pregnancies so was due to be induced. First came naturally at 38+4 waters went at 38+2.

Second was rods they tried a sweep and that was far more painful than the rods. Rods in at midnight had to break my waters at 6pm and then had at 5.30 am (29and a half hours)(so don’t think it’s quick you have the rods in for hours too) also born at 38+2.
Now 4 and 1 1/2 and full of life if + 75 percentile for height.

Have some good apps on your phone ( Disney/ Amazon prime , other ones available) or a good book because once you’re in they don’t send you home ( unlike a non induced birth) also try to forget any birth plan it probably won’t happen😭.

If you’re on a fluid drip it puts the birth weight out a bit so don’t worry if it drops lots after birth and tell home midwife.
Congratulations 👶🏻

My first daughter was born this way. Routine midwife appt at 39w3d and mw was worried, for the first time, that my bump was measuring small. Growth scan at 39w5d showed approx 32w measurements with estimated birth weight of 5lb8oz. I was induced 4 hours later. 5 and a half hours after that, I held my perfect 5lb 5oz little girl for the first time. She is now an incredible,f funny, healthy 10 year old. Hope this helps OP. And good luck xx

Never forget how utterly strong and capable you are 💖

Baby will be perfect. Some tips from my doula friend. Stay as upright and mobile as you feel able and trust your body. Lots of skin to skin and consider cranial osteopathy for baby in fourth trimester if baby doesn't settle as induction can be traumatic for baby and they can hold tension from delivery.

Moonchild79 · 16/05/2023 23:03

Hi 👋
Also had Intrauterine Growth Restriction but due to pre-eclampsia. Induced at 37+1, healthy baby 4.5lbs. They are so robust.
Rest well tonight and all the best for tomorrow

WimbyAce · 16/05/2023 23:06

My baby arrived at 38+2 of her own accord and was absolutely fine. 6lb 10 and she is now a little chunk and very tall. All the best xx

KeepOnKeepOff · 16/05/2023 23:12

This happened to me and it was very distressing! He was born perfectly healthy the next day, but teeny, and stayed teeny all the way through primary 😳.

He’s now a strapping 16 yr old rugby player who can pick me up and spin me around 😄.

Good luck 🥰

WhatTheMoFo · 16/05/2023 23:25

Hey OP.. I was induced at 38 weeks for exactly the same reasons. A beautiful baby girl weighing 5lbs 7oz joined us. Now a sensational 24 year old, living her life to the max. You'll be fine.😊 Good luck and congratulations!!!🌼

Thank you everyone so much, so grateful for your positive stories and well wishes x

Is this your first labour? Just be aware that the induction process with rods can be quite slow. I was induced at 38+1 due to repeated reduced movements and they were also worried about his weight progressing too slowly due to restricted blood flow (this was my 1st after multiple miscarriages). The first lot of rods started contractions but they stopped again, so I had to have the rods again. 3 days later they eventually broke my waters which brought on full labour. Be prepared for it not to all happen very quickly, but everyone is different.
Hope and pray it all goes well and baby gets here to you safely, good luck and try stay calm. It sounds like it's the safest thing being induced now...x

My baby didn't grow at all from the 38 weeks scan to when she was born at 40+4. Had no idea until I went back and looked at my notes.

However she was 6lbs 15oz and when midwife came out a few days later she'd put on weight.

Anyways I got 0-3 and newborn but had to buy tiny baby. But I thought she was growing through things a lot faster than her big sister. It was my tumble dryer!!

She turned 2 on the 15th and I got her tights that were 12/18 months and fit her perfectly.

thaegumathteth · 17/05/2023 00:57

I was induced twice and both labours took a while to get going but then were only 6 hours long and babies were fine.

Good luck! Very envious of the scrunchy baby snuggles you'll be having soon!

GracePalmer33 · 17/05/2023 01:39

This is exactly what happened to me. It was fine - at 38 weeks your baby is ready for the world :) I a had similar panic thinking I wasn't ready but at the end of the day I just told myself I could have gone into labour at any time including 38w and I'll probably never have felt "ready". Good luck !!!

Exact same scenario happened with my DD, OP. I’d had reduced movement and extra scans around 39 weeks showed she was measuring small and hadn’t grown for 2-3 weeks. I was all set for induction the following day and then requested c section. She was absolutely fine and over 7lbs.

GracePalmer33 · 17/05/2023 01:46

Also just as contrast to the posters whos inductions took a looong time, I was only in active labour for just over an hour. It took a few hours to kick in after they started the process but once it did it was quick. I had my baby at 2.53pm on the day of the induction.

Nat6999 · 17/05/2023 03:02

Ds was born at 36+5 & weighed 6lb 4, newborn baby grows were a little bit big on him & we had to roll the sleeves up but within two weeks he had filled out for them to fit him perfectly. Take plenty to keep you occupied, lots of snacks & drinks, a sports top bottle is usefull, a flask type is even better as most maternity units have Ice so your drinks keep cool. It may take a couple of days, get as much sleep as you can.

Humanswarm · 17/05/2023 07:42

Had exactly the same for my eldest. Rushed in at 38 weeks, induced. She was small, at 4lb 11 but she's 19 next month and my shining light! Please try not to worry. Hopefully you got some sleep and are ready to meet your beautiful baby very soon!

maddening · 17/05/2023 07:46

Best of luck OP, wishing you a smooth labour and hoping you are chilling with your beautiful baby soon x

HP07 · 17/05/2023 07:53

Slightly different scenario to yours but I had premature rupture of membranes at 35+4 (after a consultant led pregnancy) and went into labour. Labour didn’t progress as expected so they induced but baby was struggling so they did a c section. She was born at 35+6 5lb 1oz and did amazingly. Only needed to be hospitalised until day 3 and then able to come home with me. NHS considers baby full term from 37 weeks so you should be fine, they are just trying to make sure baby arrives as safely as possible. Good luck with your induction. (On a side note my first baby was a successful induction and birthed vaginally with minimal intervention. I was very happy with that labour.)

Elderflower14 · 17/05/2023 08:13

Hi. When I had ds2 almost twenty seven years ago. I was induced two weeks early due to Pre Eclampsia.
I was induced on the Monday and Tuesday mornings. Wednesday lunchtime the registrar broke my waters and I had ds six hours later... He was only 5lb 10oz so all his clothes and nappies were enormous!

AllAboutBread · 17/05/2023 12:04

Good luck x

ConsuelaHammock · 17/05/2023 12:06

It will all be fine . 6lb is a great weight and nothing to worry about. My daughter was 1lb 5oz .
