So he gets to use a man's name, keep his male privilege, men's wage, whilst posing as a woman, using our spaces but not actually having to suffer any of the disadvantages and natural stresses of womanhood? Well, he's certainly hit the jackpot hasn't he?

Welcome to gender identity ideology.

Using her male privilege when it suits him.

FeelingwearyFeeelingsmall · 16/05/2023 05:58

For those of you saying you'd like to see it but not with him in it. You are luck. It's a 4 month run and he was only it for one week. There will be a rotating cast of narrators. Last week it was Dermot O'Leary (who I'm told wasn't great).

And for people saying that he had to play a man's role to get work - this is very definitely a gender and colour blind part. A quick Google shows that the narrator will be played by women as well as men and by actors of different ethnicities.

Indeed.

It’s hard enough for actual women of that age to maintain productive interesting careers as actors, but a natal man swans in …

Mummadeze · 16/05/2023 06:31

It is a solo show, so obviously she / he has to play all parts. If you don’t like the idea of it, don’t go. And Eddie / Suzy is welcome to use whichever pronouns he / she chooses. Without people making snide comments about toilets. Live and let live.

Jabiru · 16/05/2023 06:58

I have always loved Eddie, incredibly talented guy, really hard to see how things have changed. I like to think he’s just made some mistakes in things he’s said and done, and that underneath he’s still the same amazing Eddie.

Snide remarks about toilets?

I'm a woman and I do not want people who possess a penis in the ladies' loos.

Nothing snide about this.

Gtsr443 · 16/05/2023 07:18

Eddie devised the show with his/her own brother and plays all of the characters.
It was a massive hit off Broadway and got rave reviews.
Eddie Izzard is the brand that sells. No producer will agree to having Suzy Izzard on the posters.
It looks fantastic, I wish I could go.

I really hope so. I always loved him too. Went to see him live back in the day and absolutely loved how he strode onto the stage in leggings, heels and dangly earrings. I'm not impressed with his personal views these days (which he is very keen to shout from the rooftops, thereby entitling me to an opinion on such things), but still find him wonderfully charismatic as an actor.

I think you must be thinking of Julian Clary in Bleak Expectations at the Criterion.

This is a one man show at the Garrick. I can't stand the man and wont be putting money in his pocket but would see it if anyone else was starring.

FancyFanny · 16/05/2023 07:38

I LOVE Julian Clary!

LodiDodi · 16/05/2023 07:41

The irony is he'd now be so much more on trend if he'd stuck with wearing whatever he likes without it having to define him

No thanks
reducing womanhood to a costume does not sit well with me

100% this!

You are quite right. Thank you for correcting me.

Essentially, this.

Most oppressed, my arse.

Premiumbondbaby · 16/05/2023 08:18

@KnickerlessParsons to answer your question, male actors typically get paid more (much more if famous) than female actors.

So we are to believe that not being able to use the female toilets would be so upsetting we have to allow it for the poor man, but having his male name and persona used as marketing and plastered everywhere is fine and dandy. Because this is the issue - happy to make money from being a man whilst still claiming access to women’s spaces.

Toseland · 16/05/2023 08:50

Live and let live?! What about all the women and girls who now can't live freely because of the hole Eddie is kicking through safeguards? What a creep - any man identifying as a 'girl' is a pervert.

ssd · 16/05/2023 09:00

I never liked him

Baldieheid · 16/05/2023 09:00

He's just inhabiting stolen women-skin when it suits him, whilst keeping his man-skin for when it'll earn more money.

Basic male entitlement.

Eddie can call himself whatever he likes. Wear whatever pink coat, crap make up and heels he likes. All fine.

Infringe on the rights of others by entering spaces he's not entitled to - not fine, and not snide to comment on.

HRTQueen · 16/05/2023 09:07

It’s very simple
Eddie gets paid more
when not acting but still wanting to have attention Suzie makes an appearance

Eddie and Suzie can use whatever space they like as that is the male in him comes with a load of male
entitlement that is always present

HRTQueen · 16/05/2023 09:11

Love and let live

In other words Women Know Your Place !

same old misogynistic rubbish

GabrielleLegs · 16/05/2023 09:12

This person in all their guises appears to me to be a person who is acting all the time and setting themself outrageous challenges (32 marathons in 31 days?? I ask you) to escape some inner demon. I wish they'd sort it out and stop visiting it on us.
