Using Nivea Soft as my night moisturiser?!

MoggyMittens23 · 15/05/2023 18:06

I usually use Elemis but times are tough at the moment so needed something cheap. I have just put it on my face and it was a bit thicker and tackier somehow than I am used to. Have I just made a big mistake? I have acne prone skin!

I recommend sticking with elemis but use something like clearpay/klarna to spread the cost (I buy from Look Fantastic)

I also recommend liz earle moisturiser. Cheaper than elemis but without that tacky cheap clogging feeling on your skin.

Is that the big blue tub? I hate the feel of that stuff on my skin ... it's like Sudocrem Grin

MoggyMittens23 · 15/05/2023 18:21

@Whatabouteverything thank you, I will take a look at the Liz Earle one

@JMSA no the white one! Yes no way would I put the blue on on my face it would be like trying to drag it across 😂

Studies into Nivea blue tub have found it is almost identical to crème de la mer. It has a huge number of devotees who use it as a rich night cream - small amounts warmed in the hands to aid smooothing, and then seeps in slowly over night. Lots of people swear by it,along with Astral, which is similar but also contains lanolin.

My view is your budget has to play a key part in determining beauty regimes. When times are hard, luxury beauty products need to be first to go. There are plenty of decent cheaper brands, even if you don’t live them as much. Ask for the pricey one for Christmas/birthday as a once/twice year treat. Just my view though.

I rate Nivea Soft as a day cream. However, I do t have difficult skin and it is quite perfumed.

MoggyMittens23 · 15/05/2023 18:29

@WombatChocolate completely agree. It's not a necessity right now and there are others out there which I will like for less.

Funny, I just read that about Creme De La Mer!

It's actually seeped in now and my skin feels lovely and soft. I just hope it doesn't massively break me out!

My DM uses Nivea soft

Sadly my skin is very temperamental so I can only use certain products

MatildaTheCat · 15/05/2023 18:29

I use the Nivea by choice after swimming as it’s a really good moisturiser. However if you want something lighter try the Nivea with aloe vera it has a much lighter texture (also excellent for applying after shaving the bikini line and stops any ugly rash).

motherofkevinnotperry · 15/05/2023 18:32

The blue tub is a fabulous night cream! I used it for years before I became allergic to one of it's ingredients. It was just as good as Clarins and far better than Clinique.

You warm it between your clean finger tips before patting it on your skin. It's brilliant!

Buy a small travel size to try it out. The other cream that's amazing for skin is Weleda Skin Food. I used that on my face as well and it was lovely but again became allergic to one of the ingredients.

I have very dry, sensitive, eczema prone skin and I struggle to find anything that comes close to these two.

NoraLuka · 15/05/2023 18:35

I’ve been using Nivea blue as a night moisturiser for ages, ever since I read on the internet that it worked really well 😁 I’ve found that to be true to be honest, I used to get spots but don’t anymore, don’t have wrinkles/lines either (yet!)

Floofydawg · 15/05/2023 18:39

Try Cerave if you need something cheap. I'm a recent convert.

WombatChocolate · 15/05/2023 18:40

Nivea blue tin (tin not plastic) is £1.37 in Superdrug at moment. Cheap enough to try and then use as a heel cream or on feet or knees if you don’t like it on face.

Don't use klarna. Just save for the cream you want.

Liz earle smells funny so I wouldn't use it at night

ReginaPerrin · 15/05/2023 18:48

I’ve been using Aveeno recently and I’m very pleasantly surprised. My skin feels really soft and it looks more even in tone. It’s definitely helping my “turkey neck”. I’ve been using it as a day cream too, then applying a foundation with an SPF.

Laiste · 15/05/2023 18:49

I use Nivea Soft as an eye make up remover.

Little bit on a cotton wool pad removes waterproof mascara and eye brow colour easily.

I think i started using it for that because i couldn't find a make up remover cream/lotion which wasn't wasn't wash off. Or something 😂 I had some NS hanging about in a drawer so bunged it on some cotton wool and it was great.

MoggyMittens23 · 15/05/2023 18:51

@ReginaPerrin which aveeno cream do you use please?

Why not use klarna/clearpay etc? If you can't afford a one off payment of £40 but can afford that split into 3/4 payments and need the cream now then why not?? It's up to the consumer to be responsible with it.

IMO liz earle smells nice so 🤷‍♀️ we clearly think very differently!

Watchthedoormat · 15/05/2023 19:00

Nivea soft is great.
I also like Nivea Power Day Cream and a Rose one they do. Both around a fiver and feel a little lighter than Nivea soft.
I happily use the Soft if I run out of the others.

@ReginaPerrin which aveeno cream do you use please?

It’s this one. Out of stock at present according to website, but other chemists/retailers may have it in stock.

TwilightSkies · 15/05/2023 19:06

Me and DD17 both love the Nivea soft. It’s one of the only things which doesn’t break me out.

I keep meaning to try the blue one.

AngryBirdsNoMore · 15/05/2023 19:10

Another vote for Nivea Crème (ie the blue tub). When you first put it on it is a bit alarming but after massaging it gently in, the sheen goes quite quickly. It doesn’t leave a residue on the pillow or anything.

I find it has been good for softening fine lines. Have only been using for a few weeks but I’m very pleased.

😄😄 that makes no sense if you've just run out of cream.

Yes it does. You buy cheap cream - a big bottle of cetaphil. Until you can save for your desired cream.

Urgsleepmoresleep · 15/05/2023 19:20

I use Nivea soft. I use the small tube you can buy for £1.75. It’s less greasier than the tub. My skin in sensitive which is why I switched. No issues and my skin is lovely and soft

But if the cheap cream doesn't work for your face and you don't like it and never use it then its actually a waste of money. Its OK to have different priorities to other people- I wouldn't recommend you go round in real life telling people not to do something that you wouldn't choose to do.
