Using Nivea Soft as my night moisturiser?!

MoggyMittens23 · 15/05/2023 18:06

I usually use Elemis but times are tough at the moment so needed something cheap. I have just put it on my face and it was a bit thicker and tackier somehow than I am used to. Have I just made a big mistake? I have acne prone skin!

But if the cheap cream doesn't work for your face and you don't like it and never use it then its actually a waste of money. Its OK to have different priorities to other people- I wouldn't recommend you go round in real life telling people not to do something that you wouldn't choose to do.

There will be a cheap cream that will do while you save for the cream. No one "needs" the fancy moisturiser and I say that as someone who uses elemis.

Ok great and whilst you're buying all different cheap creams to try because they're not like the elemis- you could have just bought the elemis 🤷‍♀️ everyone has a thing they will buy and spend more on.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 15/05/2023 19:24

You could go even cheaper and spend under a tenner on a pot of emollient ointment. That will last you for months and you can warm a tiny touch in your hands for your face, use it thicker for a lip balm, remove eyemakeup by rubbing it in and wiping off with a hot flannel, use it as a barrier cream, body moisturiser and softener after a shower, as a soap substitute... any time it feels a bit thick or heavy, damp hands or cloth over it turns it to more of a milky texture.

Brilliant stuff.

But you don't have the money for the elemis or you wouldn't be klarnaing it.

Imagine your budget for skin care is £10 a month and the cream is £40, you have other money- savings too but you don't want to dip into those. You could then choose to do clearpay etc and pay £10 a month interest free towards the cream but you get the cream now. Imagine that. That's how some people choose to use their money and their budgeting. Its not credit.

And what if you lose your job in month 2 and are then left with £20 worth of cream to pay off

I use the Nivea day cream for the spot prone bits of my face and then add a tiny bit of Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse Florale Multipurpose Dry Oil for around my eyes and neck, they mix together really well
Buy the Nuxe when it's on offer

Boxofsockss · 15/05/2023 19:34

I actually love the blue tub Nivea and previously used it both day and night until recently when I treated myself to Elemis day cream.

I have dry and dehydrated skin so the blue pot is brilliant for me. Sometimes I put quite a lot on and let it sit on my skin like a mask. Feels so nice once it’s sunk in!

im not a fan of the white pot though. it burns my skin!

but anyway, YANBU

WarningToTheCurious · 15/05/2023 19:36

Nuxe smells lovely - M&S did a good deal on it at Christmas. I might have indulged a little.

CornishGem1975 · 15/05/2023 19:36

I use Nivea Soft, the white tube, and it's perfect for me. I spent years buying Clarins or Clinque and switched to Nivea and couldn't tell the difference (other than my eyes were less irritated, my non-sensitive skin HATES Clarins).

BiliousOhGod · 15/05/2023 19:37

I love Nivea Soft or Créme for night cream, however, I have dry, aging skin. If you want something lighter, have a look at The Ordinary. Their original moisturiser works really well, and is quite cheap. They have a new one with fancier ingredients, but I haven't tried that one yet.

Hohofortherobbers · 15/05/2023 19:40

I love nivea soft, wouldn't use anything else

KimWexlersPonyTail · 15/05/2023 19:41

Recently downgraded my beauty products and happy with Nivea in the tube, with almond oil, there is a day and night version. Often half price in Boots

Peppadog · 15/05/2023 19:41

Nivea blue tub all the way, body and face. Only thing that works on my dry skin.

MoggyMittens23 · 15/05/2023 19:41

Thanks everyone for your comments, and things I can look into

DH says I look 'greasy' and shinier than normal atm 😂

Nivea soft in the white tube is the best thing ever. I wouldn't use anything else and have been slapping (massaging lol) it on my face and neck for many years now. I try different things every so often but always go back to it. The only downside is that it doesn't have an SPF. Does it?

Cleethorpes · 15/05/2023 19:49

Studies into Nivea blue tub have found it is almost identical to crème de la mer. It has a huge number of devotees who use it as a rich night cream - small amounts warmed in the hands to aid smooothing, and then seeps in slowly over night. Lots of people swear by it,along with Astral, which is similar but also contains lanolin.

My view is your budget has to play a key part in determining beauty regimes. When times are hard, luxury beauty products need to be first to go. There are plenty of decent cheaper brands, even if you don’t live them as much. Ask for the pricey one for Christmas/birthday as a once/twice year treat. Just my view though.

I rate Nivea Soft as a day cream. However, I do t have difficult skin and it is quite perfumed.

That's really interesting. I love using Crème de La Mer soft cream but happened to use Nivea soft cream and found that that felt really similar. I've stuck with the Nivea ever since, as it doesn't seem to make any difference, and feels just as nice to use.I've stuck with CdlM eye cream though, I haven't found anything else that feels as nice as that (to me).

No, it doesn't but I use a foundation with SPF in it.

GracePalmer33 · 15/05/2023 20:04

I've seen a bunch of influencers/beauty YouTubers raving about Nivea soft lately. They also say it's good as a makeup primer? I've not tried it myself.

WombatChocolate · 15/05/2023 20:05

I’m surprised people choose skincare products they can’t afford to buy outright, but have to take instalment plans on. I expect that sounds really judgmental, but £40 or £20 for a pot if anything is clearly going to beyond the reach of many….so why don’t people just buy a version they can afford? Apart from things like Nivea blue tub or Nivea Soft which might cost £2, there are a huge range of products to be had for under £8 or under £6 or under £4. They might not give the joy that a luxury product you adore does, but there will always be something available that does the job that’s needed.
I just don’t get why people would run up debt for face cream. Maybe I’m out of touch.

Floofydawg · 15/05/2023 20:07

@WombatChocolate I completely agree. I've downgraded lots of my beauty products to save money and I don't miss the expensive stuff at all, in fact it just makes me think how much money I've wasted over the years.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 15/05/2023 20:10

I adore Nivea soft. I've used it for years on my face at night.

I use The Ordinary lotions and potions and day moisturiser but Nivea for night.

champagneplanet · 15/05/2023 20:13

I'm trying the Aldi Lacura copy of L'oréal Revitalift and Day cream and Night cream and i'm pleasantly surprised. The Day cream is also SPF30.

Nivea soft has always been okay on me for a few days and then I break out, it's fine on my teen DD though.

stevalnamechanger · 15/05/2023 20:15

First of all foundation with SPF is totally inadequate .

Secondly , I'm shocked and concerned that anyone would use buy now pay later for this . You do not need it . Nobody does . It's not budgeting , it's credit .

No, it doesn't but I use a foundation with SPF in it.

Unless you are putting two fingers worth of foundation on your face the sun protection means shit all
