To ask if anyone else has ovulation hell?

hellocats · 13/05/2023 07:29

My ovulation time is almost worse than the actual menstruation time. I have 2-3 days of hot and cold sweats in the night, plus a squeezing pain in my ovaries. And then emotionally I'm all over the place - a mixture of extreme highs and lows. And then a few days later I'm back to normal.

Does anyone else suffer this and is there any remedy? I don't want hormonal contraception as that brings other effects for me.

What are these @BakerLea ?

So I've tried Agnus castus - helped however I got terrible chin acne. Might be worth a try as I do suffer with my skin in general
I've just ordered these so will start them this month.

Yes me too, since turning 40 (41 now). Migraine for 2-3 days, huge painful spots, ovary pain, bloating and heartburn, starving. It’s fucking miserable. Does anyone know if HRT would make a difference? Or just the pill maybe? I get awful premenstrual symptoms too.

PandaRose · 13/05/2023 20:19

Yes! Awful headache, nausea, exhaustion, have to just go to bed for it to clear otherwise I will vomit. Moods awful as well. Only started after I had my first baby, before then was totally fine! Not sure how I’m going to try again for second 😂

Lucylu1984 · 12/01/2025 18:26

Anyone get ovulation spotting too, on top of all this?!

Gonnaenodothat · 12/01/2025 18:43

I feel awful around ovulation and everything dh does irritates me I can't stand to be around him! Doesn't make sense to me as you would think since I'm ovulating I'd want to be close to him. I've had painful ovulation since my twenties but my mood around that time has got worse since mid thirties. I get terrible bloating and trapped wind and I know which side I'm ovulating from because it aches on that side. I've just started to get ovulation spotting to so all in all it's a joyous time 😂

I feel dreadful for 2 days. Pain, dizzy, a bit nauseous, light spotting. I'm nearly 41 so wondering if it's peri related x

circusmonkey65 · 12/01/2025 19:43

Oh god yes. Yesterday for me. Really severe aching and cramps for about 2 days then just disappears. I try to picture my ovaries ripening and then popping off an egg. Once it's been released it's like the pain goes. Mood wise I'm alright but super horny.

Lucylu1984 · 12/01/2025 19:55

How old are you? I'm trying to figure out if it's age related 😂
Tempted to ask for birth control to stop ovulation and periods, expecting a call from GP tomorrow to discuss x

LivingDeadGirlUK · 12/01/2025 20:04

I ended up going back on the Pill, although the mini pill now due to my age. Its been bliss, no more ovulation pain, emotions evened out, no more periods or period pain. This was after having a load of tests and ultrasounds etc which were inconclusive of the underlying issue.

If you don't mind me asking, how old are you and which pill were you prescribed?x

No problem at all, I'm 41, was 39 when I was first went back on. Its Desogestrel.

Thanks for that, you're the same age as me (and I was 39 when I first started noticing some changes). Glad it's worked for you :)

Yes, I get ovulation spotting and stomach pain, I know which side I am ovulating from.

I’m not sure about the moods, I have never heard of it before. I thought I had general perimenopause rage, I’m going to start tracking when now.

I started getting the pain after I had my son at 34, the Dr had a theory it could be due to the C section scarring but I had an internal ultrasound and they said it had all healed up really neatly!

Hemiola · 12/01/2025 20:36

Definitely worse since hitting 40 and definitely worse than the actual period week

lovemycbf · 12/01/2025 20:40

I get this too
interestingly I had an ovary and fallopian tube out on one side due to a large cyst, But the side without one hurts more every month now than before so I assume it's scar tissue reacting to my hormones

Tommarvolo · 12/01/2025 20:43

Oh yes. I get 1) intensely angry 2) covered in goo and need to almost wear full on sanitary towels to deal with it (period pants just don't absorb it well 3) constipated which then suddenly releases when the hormones change and then I need to poo 5 times, hoping it doesn't coincide on an in-office day 6) javelin arse on actual ovulation day 7) spotting 8) migraine for 1-3 days.

  1. I have a copper coil and wondering if a change to mirena might help

Seems like so many women age 38-40 noticed some big changes that were quite sudden...
I'm not on any BC at the moment so may start looking for the best option x

Can also relate to the goo. It really is similar to a period, just clear. And makes me feel really unclean for a good 4-5 days.

I think dh feels like he's some sort of sex god when this happens and I haven't the heart to tell him it's just what my body does at that time of the month.

I'm coming up to 40 so I think for me it is part of peri.
I can relate to those symptoms except the constipation I go the other way!

SleepDeprivedElf · 13/01/2025 23:03

Wow, I've found my people. I started tracking my insomnia and found it regularly coincided with ovulation. I feel so tense then, like a tightly coiled spring. Really irritable, I'm saying 'FFS' 🙄 at least 25 times a day in my head (or out loud on some bad days).

I tried to look it up and found oestrogen dominance? But science seems unsure that's real?

Putthekettleon73 · 13/01/2025 23:08

No physical pain but I'm an irrational ragey mess every month during ovulation..anxious... Can't make a decision! It's horrible. I get it then but not really pmt.

Putthekettleon73 · 13/01/2025 23:12

Ashwaghanda also worth trying.
