See we both have very similar names....

I have been around for 3-4 years and have built up a bit of a good rapor etc with fellow mner's.

There is a new(ish..?) mner with a similar name and already there is evidence of confussion..ie others leaving feedback for me but spelling it the way of the other mn iykwim...

I have pointed this out (nicely) to the other mn and have had negative replies iykwim..

Just thought it would be easier for everyone if we had differences to tell us apart as im sure she doesn't want to be mixed up as me and vice versa..???

aibu..?

gosh this is so juvenile isn't it?

ShinyDysonHereICome · 18/02/2008 22:51

Hello hello

I changed my name partly for Christmas, and partly because several of my clients now use Mumsnet and I felt it might be embarrassing for us to bump into one another on threads!

Once the Dyson feedback thread has taken place (10th March I believe) I will be namechanging again .....

PS....this 'personal relationship' thing is sounding a little bit ermmmm pervy?

littlelapin did indeed do a very kind thing and gave me her single 't' WABBIT nickname, previously I'd had to use WABBITT...

I think it's just respectful not to (knowingly) use a name that's similar to someone elses but also know that nicknames can be kind of personal too and difficult to replace iykwim

all hugs gratefully recieved

and thank you for the 'lovely' comment!!!

bookwormmum · 18/02/2008 23:40

Is there a list of names registered so we could see if someone has bagsied a name we like? Sorry, I keep using that word at the moment .

hungrypanda · 21/02/2008 05:42

YABU, If you have a problem, change your name to something else.

Maidamess · 21/02/2008 07:36

Surely if we judge people by what they are saying rather than who is saying it, there isn't a problem?

Aren't we all anonymous on here anyway? Sounds like its the 'hun' thing thats bothering you most of all.

BumperliciousIsOneHotMother · 21/02/2008 08:55

Maidamess, I don't think that is how it really works, and although we are anonymous from our rl identities many posters have a mn persona and a mn life so people are influenced by who is posting. That's why some of us (including me) have name changed to post something even more personal or embarrassing, even though we don't know these people in rl.

A slight aside, but related, it always bugs me when people are really flippant about other people getting upset on mn and say things like "well if you get upset by words on a screen it's time to step away from the computer". Of course people get upset. This is meant to be a community, just because it is conducted online and with the written word doesn't make it any less valid and doesn't mean you should use the same social etiquette that you would in rl. There are real people sat behind those words.

Ok, hijack over
