To ask for more cheese?

Biscuitsandpizza · 07/05/2023 15:02

We went out for lunch to a chain pizza restaurant, and when my pizza arrived it had no cheese at all in the centre section, and a smattering around the outer ring.

I wanted to (politely) ask if it could be re-made with more cheese, but my husband told me not to be silly, and 'it's fine'. We don't go out often, and I just wanted to enjoy the food I was paying for, but he seemed to think it wasn't acceptable to ask for a pizza with a fair amount of cheese on it.

So, which of us is being unreasonable?

It depends on the type of pizza you ordered. Some don't have much cheese.

CreamTeaThievery · 07/05/2023 15:05

Fancy pizza is always lacking in cheese for some reason. I don't think you were being unreasonable at all to ask for more.

Biscuitsandpizza · 07/05/2023 15:07

Just a standard pepperoni pizza.

Did they not come round with extra cheese? Very unusual in an Italian restaurant.

YouJustDoYou · 07/05/2023 15:08

I last ate pizza at a restaurant about 5 years ago and was so disappointed by how sparse the cheese was (and yes it was a normal cheese pizza), the chain I ate at used to do great pizzas but over the years I guess due to cost cutting or something the pizzas just got smaller and more sparse. I haven't eaten pizza out since.

No, but even if they had, that would be parmesan, I'm talking about the mozzarella that gets melted when cooked.

Freshfoods · 07/05/2023 15:11

A pepperoni pizza should have lots of mozzarella cheese. I would have been disappointed, but I wouldn't have asked for another one. I would go to a different pizza restaurant next time.

Goodadvice1980 · 07/05/2023 15:12

You are unreasonable for not asking for a proper pizza.

He is unreasonable for dictating you could not request what you ordered.

The pizza place are unreasonable for stiffing you on the cheese.

Everybody sucks here. 🍕

BadlydoneHelen · 07/05/2023 15:13

Was it Pizza Express? If so it sounds like they might have got a bit muddled and made it as a Legera, the one that has a circle cut out and salad in the middle

Putyourdamnshoeson · 07/05/2023 15:14

I get it. We eat out so rarely and I am a really good cook (don't mean to.sound like a knob, but I am) so I wouldn't hesitate. I could make a lovely pizza for £2, so even accounting for restaurant overheads, if your charging £16, it wants to be bang on.

IncognitoPanda · 07/05/2023 15:16

Your husband is very unreasonable everyone knows more cheese is the answer to everything. I don’t say this lightly but Ltb

TomatoSandwiches · 07/05/2023 15:21

Your husband isn't the authority on complaint etiquette, if you wanted more cheese then request it, what has it got to do with him?

I think you have to select a Legera so you'd no there would eb big bloody hole in the middle. OP said cheese was missing from the centre.

I would have asked for a complete pizza as well, If I'm paying for it, I expect it. Don't you dare short change me!

Mind you, pizzas here are pretty shit compared to proper pizzas in Italy. And many times the price. Why can I get a huge freshly cooked pizza in Tuscany for 6 euro which tastes fantastic yet here I have to pay £10+ for crap which is much smaller?

billyt · 07/05/2023 15:55

Jeez that was a crap post, sorry.

So you'd know there would be a big bloody hole.... Grin

do you not think OP might have mentioned if her standard pepperoni pizza came with a salad filled hole in the middle?

Bonbon21 · 07/05/2023 16:18

You can never have enough cheese...never !!

This made me laugh!

I'd ordered a very standard pepperoni pizza, and just wanted a very standard amount of cheese, and not to be short-changed! (Although extra cheese is always welcome!)

I thought it wasn't unreasonable to ask for the pizza I was paying for; my husband thought it unreasonable and not to make a fuss, and dismissed my disappointment so as not to offend/upset the restaurant.

Haha yes, I definitely hadn't ordered any other type of pizza, nor had they got muddled!

This is why I make my own pizzas. After spending a fair amount a few years ago at PE. The pizzas arrived at the table looking like the chef had no idea that they were supposed to have cheese on them. I have never gone back, and make my own for a fraction of the price, with as much🧀as I like. I do not complain, I just will not return.

AtleastitsnotMonday · 07/05/2023 16:30

I wonder if your dh said not to say anything because he would either have to send his dish back too, let it go cold or eat with you watching and waiting.
You were not unreasonable to want more cheese though, it's just personal taste, personally the less cheese on a pizza the better for me, I'm not big on cheese! Maybe just chalk it up as experience and if you order pizza from this place again order double cheese.

Bagpuss2022 · 07/05/2023 16:41

Your unreasonable but only because cheese is the work of the devil I would love a cheese less pizza.
your DH sounds like a right idiot of course you should of asked for it to be replaced/redone

itsmylife7 · 07/05/2023 16:41

Try your nearest Wetherspoons, honestly they do an amazing pizza with lots of cheese.

timetochangethename · 07/05/2023 16:50

@Bagpuss2022 Franco manca do amazing cheeseless pizzas. They are sourdough ones. DD is vegan so always has this and then adds on a couple of toppings. Very reasonably priced too.
