OK wtf, just watching coronation clips and at 03.10 it sound like the choir is singing "I've had vagina for dinner..."

Tell me I'm not the only one who hears it this way.

I am surprised by how many on here have never seen, read or heard the word Regina.

When they saw EIIR on postboxes etc etc didn't they wonder what is was?

Did they think Rex was just a made-up name for a dog?

I'm working class and never studied Latin in my bog standard inner city education. But I'm over 65 and have always read massively, so perhaps that makes a difference.

I always thought the 'R' stood for Regent. Then I was told it was Regina. As in Elizabeth and her middle name was Regina.

We heard "Wide Backed Vagina...Camillia!"

We had a bit of a chortle

Missingmyusername · 07/05/2023 20:38

Another well over 65 here and I studied Latin for 4 years at school to GCSE level. Yes , I’ve heard the word Regina and understood what ER meant on postboxes etc. But that knowledge didn’t stop my ancient lugs mishearing what was sung. I knew what I was hearing couldn’t possibly be correct. But I rewound the tv 3 times and each time I heard 5 lads, 5 lads vagina Camilla ! I laughed till I cried and this thread has set me off again 🤣🤣

I’m awaiting a hearing test appointment and will definitely be attending 😂😂

Glad I wasn't the only one.
DH was in the other room but even he shouted 'What on earth are they singing'?
I'd love to know how they got little choir boys to sing that without laughing, as I'm 70 and giggled like a hyena. 😆

😹

93% of British people heard "vagina" and the rest went to public school 🙃

Yup.

eatdrinkandbemerry · 07/05/2023 21:48

Well I'd prefer profiteroles but whatever floats his boat 🤣

Ihatepickingausername3 · 07/05/2023 22:50

She looked like she was giggling at it herself!

The argument about Latin is funny. I don't listen to classical music very much, and at church the hymns are mostly in English, except for some very old ones that have a sprinkling of Latin. But I can think of three songs by my favourite bands that have Latin in them. Whisper by Evanescence, Our Solemn Hour by Within Temptation, and Veneficium by Lacuna Coil. I think mostly because it sounds nice to add a bit of Latin.

Where the cap fits.

Sudeko · 08/05/2023 16:04

Oops, I never meant that sort of cap 😅

I can't believe how ignorant and childish some of you are.

Oh come on! Get over yourself. It's just a bit of fun, and it truly, genuinely did sound like these things. Are you always this stuck up and uptight and humourless?

VeryQuaintIrene · 09/05/2023 13:10

As a classics prof and someone who's actually sung this anthem (not on Saturday, obvs) and who knows what it's suppose to be saying, I agree it totally does sound like I've had vagina, and this thread has had me in fits of laughter, so thank you all!
