Vernon Kay or Gary Davies?

Radio 2 listeners - are you counting down the days til Vernon get his 9.30 show or do you actually enjoy listening to Gary Davies and his drivel ?

I'll start. I'm team Vernon and I might actually go back to R2 when he starts.

When I used to listen to Ken Bruce, I had to turn over when he was talking to Ritchie the travel guy.
Then I heard him (Ritchie) doing his own show recently and he was completely different! I thought he was good!

I try with Scott Mills but it doesn't work for me. He was on for an hour the other day before I had to switch off as I felt my brain was drizzling out of my ears. I remarked to DH at the time "my word, this is the longest I've ever listened to Scott but there's no way I can go for the full two hours".

They are both dreadful.
Fortunately I'm usually at work in the daytime so it doesn't really impact me. I've switched to Radio 4 in the mornings.

Team 'ooh' Gary Davies. Vernon is too annoying.

We have R2 on all day at work. Ideally Gary would take over from the insufferable Scott mills as I haven't minded him as much as I thought I would but I have high hopes for Vernon, he's always good covering Zoe and as we're the same age he plays lots from my teenage years.

Can't stand vernon. He comes across as smarmy. The whole cheating thing with Tess was seedy and he once made a comment about not fancying Cheryl Cole because she had dirty fingernails. Was a classi" negging/not like other men comment and I've not forgotten it.

Listen to radio 2 for 25 years, all day long, can't abide it now.

Neither. I've followed Ken Bruce to Greatest Hits radio he still does Popmaster.

I hate the station now. It began for me when they started playing a load of current chart crap on their playlists. Then good presenters like Simon, Paul OG, Graham and Ken going was the final nail. The shows I do still listen to have selected playlists for each show, not normal playlists.

I'm grateful for a decent radio with DAB in my car now, I flit between 6music, Absolute 90s and GHR now.

I don’t like either. Gary is slightly preferable but he doesn’t seem to engage with listeners even when he’s talking to them. I agree he’s a bit bland.

But Vernon has never been my cup of tea at all. I don’t like the banter. I’ve actually turned Vernon off.

TBH Radio 2 isn’t what it was, I rarely enjoy it these days. That said Radio 1 is garbage, last time I switched it on (I think because Vernon was covering) I couldn’t understand what the presenter was saying.

I moved with Ken too to GHR. Really enjoying him and listening to Simon Mayo again. I tried to listen to Scott Mills but just couldn't. I listen to a mix of GHR and Virgin and am enjoying listening to Chris Evans, Graham Norton and Ricky Wilson as well as Ken and Simon. I listened to R2 for 20+ years but have to say I'm not missing it at all. Goodness knows who their target audience is.

I’m just so happy old man Ken Bruce and the incredibly irritating Steve Wright have left that either Gary or Vernon will do.
love Sara and Liza but can’t listen to Zoe so listen to Chris Evans on Virgin in the morning.

Cant stand Vernon.. I only listen from 9.30 because i cant stand Zoe either, guess i'll be listening from 12.00 shortly!
Incidentally, i caught a few minutes of Richie on Bank hol Monday, basically because nothing else was on as he irritates me.. the idiot was talking about a jumper, and actually said ' I borrowed it to her' WTF? sums up quite a few DJs on radio 2 these days!

I was liking Sounds of the 80s from time to time but less keen on finding Gary all over the daytime. Can't imagine enjoying Vernon Kay.

I listen to Lisa Tarbuck, Elaine Paige and Johnny Walker. And I don't turn Sara Cox off, though I'm usually listening to Radio 3 Breakfast (recommended).

Can't stand Vernon, so no! Wish it had been OJ Borge, he's lovely. Tbh, these days I'm preferring stations where the DJ s don't talk v much, or when they do, they talk about music. For example, KEXP ( on the internet) is based in Seattle and they play some interesting music, a bit like 6 Music. My tolerance for inane babble is much reduced these days!

I’m reserving judgment on the grounds that I dreaded Scott Mills coming in but after a few days came to really enjoy his show and actively seek it out. I enjoy Gary and like the quiz format (easier questions!) but I’m the generation that grew up with Ooo Gary Davies in the 80’s so he’s a comforting familiar voice

I think I'll like Vernon more than Gary but neither are my favs.
I love Sara!
Zoe isn't great but I still listen to her on Breakfast. Scott I turn off.

Oh my god, I thought this was a 'would you rather' thread.

I've moved to GHR too, wasn't expecting to like it as much as I do - love to know the listening figures as to how many have jumped.

I’ve opted out of R2 too and gone with Ken. I must say he sounds so much brighter these days!
I don’t really notice the commercials if truth be told.
