To think Camilla should not have been crowned Queen

She should have been Princess Consort as we were told she would be. Instead the usual airbrushing of history to try and make her acceptable by clever spinning. And positive press. Bit sickening since Edward VIII had to abdicate over marrying a divorced woman.

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.
That's to all those who seem to be judging their morals.
We all make mistakes, the Royal couple may well have repented. Isn't that enough?
And I'm an atheist so have no truck with this nonsense.

Yawn.

Fascinating choice of response from someone who sneers at the alleged lack of intelligent discussion on here.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 06/05/2023 19:05

IIRC Wallis Simpson had been divorced twice. Just as well he was forced to abdicate, though - the pair of them were evidently Nazi sympathisers.

tennesseewhiskey1 · 06/05/2023 19:05

Oh FFS not ANOTHER ONE?!

Sudeko · 06/05/2023 19:07

Didn't Diana say that she knew that she instinctively sensed that she would never become queen from very early on?

Maireas · 06/05/2023 19:07

That was the government's actual concern. See my previous post.

Sudeko · 06/05/2023 19:08

she knew 🙄

Diana said lots of things, including that Charles would never become King.

Diana said lots of things, including that Charles would never become King.

Oh, I missed that statement.

isadoradancing123 · 06/05/2023 19:12

Amazing that its never mentioned that Diana had seven lovers, that we know about, at least Charles only had one

medianewbie · 06/05/2023 19:13

Viviennemary · 06/05/2023 16:54

Charles is a widower so is free to marry in the eyes of the church. Camilla isn't.

Indeed. But they bent (tore up) the
rules for Boris too, didn't they? Rich white men get what they want. If not they ,(wins award for harking right back to Henry VIII....) just make new rules anyway.

GoodChat · 06/05/2023 19:15

Out of curiosity, would people be upset with Camilla being queen if Diana was still alive?

Hbh17 · 06/05/2023 19:15

Oh FFS... we"re still doing this? Camilla is the King's wife, ergo she is the Queen. End of. (And she's doing it brilliantly too, by the way).

At no point did QEII say she did not want Camilla to be called Queen.

She specifically used the phrase Queen Consort. Whereas her mother was just known as Queen Elizabeth. I think she knew exactly what she was saying.

I guess we all have different interpretations of what QEII meant.

No, the late Queen's mother was the Queen Consort, generally styled as Queen Elizabeth. And the Queen knew that, unlike you. She also knew full well that her grandmother was the Queen Consort styled as Queen Mary; and her great-grandmother was the Queen Consort styled as Queen Alexandra

As has been pointed out, she clearly didn't anticipate that people would be so daft as to believe that there is a difference between a Queen Consort and a Queen.
There simply is no such thing as a lower or different status King's spouse called the Queen Consort. You've invented that all by yourself.

mateysmum · 06/05/2023 16:59

Some people just don't seem to get the concept of monarchy. It is not a long run of "Britain's got Talent". Camilla is the wife of the King. She is therefore Queen consort. End of! We do not hold trials for moral rectitude before proclaiming someone worthy of being a monarch. If we did, how many of us would pass that test?
She has been crowned and will henceforth be referred to as Queen. She is till however the Queen consort, not Queen regnant - just like the Queen Mother and Queen Mary. Neither of them were referred to as Queen Consort. For Camilla to be so called would be unfair and unusual.
Charles and Diana's marriage was a disaster from the start. both of them behaved badly. Diana has been dead almost 26 years, Camilla makes Charles happy and therefore a better king.
Get over it.

This is a brilliant post, which sums up the facts perfectly.

CrotchetyQuaver · 06/05/2023 17:39

I think it's sad that Charles was not allowed to marry Camilla in the first place, it would have saved a lot of heartache all round.

i thought she turned him down?

CabernetSauvignon · 06/05/2023 19:20

Oops, I have no idea how that picture got in there. I'll see if MN can kindly remove it.e

nirbil · 06/05/2023 19:23

I'm laughing a bit at the idea we shouldn't accept someone because they have been married and divorced. Which century are you from?

AskMeMore · 06/05/2023 19:27

@isadoradancing123 Charles has had far more than one lover since he married Diana, and far more before then as well.
Diana was a virgin when she married Charles and naive and inexperienced.

di2004 · 06/05/2023 19:31

What’s Camilla done to you?
Give her a break .. and accept it! Thankfully we don’t live in a bye gone era.

SunnyEgg · 06/05/2023 19:32

Maybe they should have used a cardboard cutout of Diana for op

Myauntiesmustache · 06/05/2023 19:33

Sudeko · 06/05/2023 19:07

Didn't Diana say that she knew that she instinctively sensed that she would never become queen from very early on?

I believe so.

But them Diana wasn't the brightest crayon in the box was she?

Quite a few titled ladies turned him down including Diana's own sister. They read the room, and saw the spectre of Camilla, Diana didn't until it was too late. By that time she was in love with him and didn't want to let him go.

Camilla was the mistress who payed the 'long game' and appears to have won - so far.

Changeling78 · 06/05/2023 19:34

Urgh, saint Diana fans out in abundance today.
Queen Camilla, I like it. They look good together, much more suited than Charles and Di.

Brefugee · 06/05/2023 19:34

Maireas · 06/05/2023 19:07

That was the government's actual concern. See my previous post.

there was a whole secret operation to recover letters sent to the Nazi heirarchy from Edward and Wallis Simpson, as well as the constant visits and meetings they had.

I rather suspect that if he hadn't been persuaded to give up the throne he would have met an unfortunate accident.

AskMeMore · 06/05/2023 19:36

OP the mistake you made was in believing the Royal Family when they said Camilla would never be called Queen. They were lying.
