I won't be taking any guidance from the nuts at PETA.
I love milk, always have. Especially in summer.

missbunnyrabbit · 07/05/2023 13:40

I adore milk, always have. I drink several glasses a day, it's delicious. I, too, have ordered it in restaurants.

Agree. It's gross.

Most adult humans would baulk at being offered, rat, cat, dog, or human milk. So why is it acceptable from a cow / sheep / goat?

Farmers impregnate cows, take their babies and steal the milk. Yuck.

Cows, sheep and goats are vegetarian animals, which is why their milk is good to drink and their meat is good to eat. The other animals you mention tend to have a carnivorous diet.

Ah yes, them. They're not riddled with misogyny through and through, are they?

After all 'IT'S COW BREAST MILK AND FULL OF PUS' isn't suggesting that breast milk is disgusting and diseased?

CHEESE IS MOULDY MAMMARY SECRETIONS - so what human females produce is a yucky mammary secretion?

MIGHT AS WELL SUCKLE DIRECT FROM THE ANIMAL - so it's linked with bestiality? So women are also beasts? And lactation is a purely sexual thing?

EGGS ARE CHICKEN PERIODS - we'll ignore the fact that they aren't, because chickens do not have periods and menstruation is not just women popping out an unfertilised ovum - you mean menstruation is disgusting?

Then there are their ad campaigns - the knocking the bottom out of a woman so that she needed a neckbrace = as though violent sex is something to aspire to, the constant naked young women, the constant hypersexualised and violent imagery of young women because they're meat, too.

We can throw in the Antisemitic and racist imagery as well, but it's generally targeted specifically at women and their bodies.

I don't even drink milk, but really? Inherent biological characteristics of females are to be reviled?

Ragged · 07/05/2023 19:02

I used to have a lot of problems with low iron when I was vegetarian. Even when I ate eggs & lots of seaweed (I like it). Putting meat back in my diet meant heme iron & my anemia symptoms improved vastly. I reckon heme iron in my diet makes a huge difference to me.

MooseBreath · 07/05/2023 19:05

I drink milk at 32 years old. I didn't for a while, but had huge cravings for it with DS2. I've just continued drinking it since!

Choconut · 07/05/2023 19:41

Just don't drink too much because then it's not good for you:

According to an October 2014 study in The BMJ, drinking too much milk was related to an increased risk of death and in men and women as well as an increased risk of cardiovascular disease and cancer in women. More specifically, the researchers found that women who drank three glasses of milk or more every day had a nearly doubled risk of death and cardiovascular disease, and a 44 percent increased risk of cancer compared to women who drank less than one glass per day.

NurseCranesRolodex · 07/05/2023 23:15

Love it & so does DH, he drinks around 12 pints a week. It's only weird if you're lying in a field under a cow drinking the milk from the teat. I know the dairy industry doesn't work that way but milk is nice.

so the human race has been getting it wrong for millennia? Amazing that we've survived really.

Notwithstanding any of the other arguments but I really don't buy that as a valid point. We've been raping kids and murdering one another in the name of religion for 'millennia' too-does it make it the right thing to do?

Judydoes2 · 12/05/2023 13:28

After all 'IT'S COW BREAST MILK AND FULL OF PUS' isn't suggesting that breast milk is disgusting and diseased? No. It's suggesting that it isn't the right thing to do to drink a different species' breast milk.

CHEESE IS MOULDY MAMMARY SECRETIONS - so what human females produce is a yucky mammary secretion? It is a mammary secretion. We don't make cheese out of our own breast milk though do we?

MIGHT AS WELL SUCKLE DIRECT FROM THE ANIMAL - so it's linked with bestiality? So women are also beasts? And lactation is a purely sexual thing? Well arguably it is odd to drink something from another animals' mammary. Beastiality if we were sucking it from the udder, yes. Why's it okay if It's taken out and put in a bottle? If my dog was lactating and I did that I suspect I could be found guilty of something beastility related.

EGGS ARE CHICKEN PERIODS - we'll ignore the fact that they aren't, because chickens do not have periods and menstruation is not just women popping out an unfertilised ovum - you mean menstruation is disgusting? No, they're not a chicken's period of course but I can see why people say that-they're not too much different really. No menses aren't 'disgusting' but eating another animals' eggs is strange.

We can throw in the Antisemitic and racist imagery as well, but it's generally targeted specifically at women and their bodies.
WE target other female animals and their bodies by means of the dairy/egg industry.

KarmaStar · 12/05/2023 14:05

Yabu.mother cows desperately try to hide their babies to stop farmer removing them as the babies cry for their mum and the mum bellows in distress ...so you can gulp down the babies milk.make that Yabvu.

BottleBottoms · 12/05/2023 14:30

I find the "Ew gross it's designed for a baby cow not an adult human, it's so weird drinking something that wasn't meant for you!" argument kind of bizarre.

Almost nothing we eat was originally "meant" or "designed" to be eaten by humans, except insofar as humans themselves have taken existing species, and selectively bred, hybridised or otherwise modified those we can exploit for food (including our dairy animals, whose milk production we've modified to fit our requirements, but also meat animals, egg-layers, grains, legumes, roots and tubers, fungi, leafy vegetables, etc.). Fruits are often produced by plants as a way to bribe animals into dispersing their seeds, but we're usually not their target animal species, and even worse, we've manipulated some of them into producing fruits with no seeds at all.

The world doesn't exist to provide for humans — we are opportunistic omnivores, evolved in an environment where taking things that were produced by another organism for its own or its offspring's benefit is how we survive. How is it any more wrong or perverted to drink milk than it is to take advantage of any of the other sources of nutrition that weren't "intended" for us?

shammalammadingdong · 12/05/2023 14:46

I don't get why people think its weird or infantile. It's healthy, and you like it, so who cares?

I'm severely lactose intolerant and don't like milk anyway, so it's a very hard no from me, but why should that matter if you like it?

shammalammadingdong · 12/05/2023 14:47

We don't make cheese out of our own breast milk though do we?

Well, you can. People do. If you're so inclined, you can.....

JorisBonson · 12/05/2023 14:50

We were only allowed milk with our meals growing up, regardless of what the meal was. Therefore, I do not like glasses of milk any more.

Ktime · 12/05/2023 14:53

Love milk in my hot chocolate and cereal but I can't drink it like a drink, it has a weird silky texture on my tongue and I can feel it for ages afterwards.

Was always Confused American kids having milk and cookies on TV.
