I've not needed milk since I was weaned. Nobody else does either, not least bovine breast milk from a sub species humans we created for the very purpose.
Fecking weird if you ask me and pretty gross.

YouWereGr8InLittleMenstruators · 06/05/2023 07:09

Adults drink milk with relish all over Scandinavia, every single day. Big glasses of cold milk with breakfast, lunch and dinner.
I still enjoy the odd gulp now and then, but have absorbed some of the cultural revulsion most adults seem to have in the UK.
GreenAcrylicPaint, what do you think silage is, that you're so grossed out by it? It's not as if it's sewage. Silage is the summer grass, cut in its prime, and preserved for the winter months. It ferments in the bales, making it full of probiotic goodness and nutrition. Fermented foods are excellent for health; sauerkraut, kimchi, apple cider vinegar, kefir for example.

I don’t like giving it to children but since the purpose of it is to feed children (albeit of a different species) they get an exemption because it kind of makes sense. But for adults it makes no sense and is pure vom

Do you eat any for of cheese?
Drink Lattes?
Eat ice-cream?

montysma1 · 06/05/2023 07:28

I can't understand people having such strong options about what other people consume.

I have a horror of fish. All if it . Can't stand the smell or the tast or the texture .

But I hold no strong opinions on fish eaters because, you know, it doesn't affect me what others eat and it's none of my business.

Cue the food police being horrified at my non fishness......

IfIGoThereWillBeTrouble · 06/05/2023 07:35

I love milk. I always have blue milk. (Full fat). I’m a veggie and feel guilty that I’m not vegan, but I couldn’t give up milk, cream or ice cream.

CoronationKicking · 06/05/2023 07:39

"Sadly I'm old enough to remember school milk, which put me off it for life"

You're over 5 years old then? Confused

I'm going to have to get out of bed now for a glass of freezing cold milk 🥛

Aslanplustwo · 06/05/2023 07:45

I voted YANBU even though I hate the taste and smell of milk. However, there is nothing wrong with an adult drinking milk, there are worse things you could be drinking.

GeraltsBathtub · 05/05/2023 23:15

🤢 drinking milk is understandable for children but it’s disgusting for adults! The thought makes me genuinely queasy

Oh do get a grip!!!

Modda · 06/05/2023 07:48

School milk killed any love for it off. Warm grey liquid with a blue straw. It stunk.

I used to cry and gag and those fucking nuns still made me drink it before going out to play. I missed so many break times.

FancyCurtains · 06/05/2023 07:48

Nimbostratus100 · 05/05/2023 22:07

Its fine if you have the mutation that means you can still digest it - most adults lose the ability to digest milk

It depends on your ancestry. 90% of Northern European adults can digest milk.

I’m with you OP, I love a big glass of cold milk.

mogtheexcellent · 06/05/2023 07:55

Another one who swigs from the bottle Blush

I drink more in the summer as i dont have hot drinks then. At the moment its a 60:40 ratio as house still chilly. Daughter only drinks milk or water. DH never touches it or has hot drinks he is water or squash.

I love milk in tea and coffee etc but swapped that for oat milk and have almond
milk for cereal. If you want less dairy these are great substitutes.

OP don’t know if it counts but I do love an occasional glass of almond milk.

JustToBeMe · 06/05/2023 07:57

So ridiculous. You are never to old to eat, drink or wear what you want!

But the people that make these arbitrary 'rules' would hate me as I am nearly 50 with long hair, I wear jeans and I love a chocolate milkshake or a meal of fish fingers, mash and beans.

This^^
They'd hate me too 🤷‍♀️ not that I care😆 I'm almost 57, just over shoulder length hair, black jeans and hoodie mostly and patent Dr Marten boots, I'm comfortable...!

I love fish fingers especially in a sandwich with taretar sauce, a small pot of beans on the side
(do love a McDonalds fillet o fish, I have the small bottle of milk with it 😆)
Another milk lover here

WhatInFreshHell · 06/05/2023 08:16

I've found my people!
I drink tonnes of milk, full fat milk. Love the stuff.
My DP thinks I'm disgusting for this, but it's always my go to drink!
I also secretly love an Ella's Kitchen fruit pouch Blush My DS is now almost 9...

Nope. I do eat non dairy ice cream though.

I would happily eat a box of Farley’s rusks and, if it still exists, a box of the sunshine orange baby cereal. Perhaps I might treat myself later!😉😂
I like really cold milk with chocolate.

IfIGoThereWillBeTrouble · 06/05/2023 12:40

@GinUnicorn thanks for the suggestion - I’ve tried almond milk but much as I love almonds, I didn’t like almond milk.

Snoopsnoggysnog · 06/05/2023 14:21

Haven’t read the full thread but I have a cappuccino or a latte most days so that’s not that different from drinking a full glass of milk, it just has some coffee in it.

Deathbyfluffy · 06/05/2023 14:23

SlippySarah · 05/05/2023 22:15

It is a bit weird tbh

It’s really not, perfectly normal

OneTC · 06/05/2023 15:02

eatdrinkandbemerry · 05/05/2023 22:34

Nope but only because i don't like the stuff 🤣
I can tolerate a bit of skimmed in my coffee.
My partner doesn't drink hot drinks and drinks about 3 pints of full fat milk a day. I don't know how he stays so skinny 🤣

Some dairy calcium binds with fat in your gut and you excrete the fat rather than absorb it. People that drink dairy excrete fat at twice the rate as non dairy and if anything the correlation suggests that people that regularly drink milk tend to be slimmer.

Older article but the most, erm, digestible

BBC - Science & Nature - The Dairy Diet

this is an article about calcium and weight

jammydodg · 06/05/2023 15:02

I love milk too. It's just amazing! Nothing beats a glass of cold milk

Ragged · 06/05/2023 15:58

tbh, my 1st thought was about an overweight friend who drinks a lot of milk. It seems like her comfort food. I suspect she's ingesting more calories than she realises, or wants (she brings up topic of her dissatisfaction with her body size). I keep my mouth shut, of course.

I could drink a lot of milk as a must-be-quick meal and it's great in a cuppa.

Not all brands are made equal so if you are keen to cut down diary I recommend trying different types - it took me a while to adjust but I love it now. I’m keen on cashew milk too.

Personally though I think any effort to cut down is only a good thing so if it’s not for you don’t beat yourself up.

RustedfromtheRain · 06/05/2023 19:30

I try not to consume too many calories from drinks (I get MORE than enough from food), but I love a glass of ice cold milk with a slab of cake 😄
