To love drinking milk as an adult

It’s bloody lovely

cannot be beaten as far as I’m concerned and I drinks pints of the stuff

my friends all find it weird and infantile

who is BU?

No, adults can only drink water

I saw that thread too.

It's a fair point about Lattes (and indeed Cappuccinos and many other coffee drinks). Adding coffee makes milk acceptable apparently

You drink what you like OP!

Personally I love a Frijj every now and then

GodspeedJune · 05/05/2023 23:06

I feel really weird about milk, especially since breastfeeding. It’s a bit perverse that it’s meant for calves but adult humans drink it IMO.

MapofVenice · 05/05/2023 23:08

Cow’s breastmilk 🤢

scrivette · 05/05/2023 23:09

I love milk, I even like it slightly warm and in the winter I like it hot before bed.

I never get this. (I mean I do of course get that many people opt not to eat dairy).

However, we use animal products as well as animals in many ways as humans, and have done so for millennia now - cow's and other animal's milk provides us with cheese and yogurts too. Many humans eat meat, or wear leather.

I can't see why drinking milk is any more inherently odd than all the other uses some of us make of animals?

Clarabellasingsthisbit · 05/05/2023 23:13

I drink a glass of chilled,full-fat milk every night at bedtime. I usually can't face breakfast immediately on rising so will have a coffee or hot chocolate made with milk first thing in the morning.

If I have a stomach upset or really bad indigestion, the best cure for me is to sip some warm milk very slowly.

It's the best nourishment when used for making Horlicks,Ovaltine or Complan when feeling out of sorts or convalescing .

🤢 drinking milk is understandable for children but it’s disgusting for adults! The thought makes me genuinely queasy

Explain why though is it ok to give to your children but not to drink it yourself?

wyntersuhn · 05/05/2023 23:16

I love all forms of dairy, particularly milk. Delish!

LateNightsByTheLake · 05/05/2023 23:16

Oat milk only here.

The dairy industry is too cruel.

FortunateHarry · 05/05/2023 23:17

Love a milk!

I don’t like giving it to children but since the purpose of it is to feed children (albeit of a different species) they get an exemption because it kind of makes sense. But for adults it makes no sense and is pure vom

Milk makes me feel physically ill. I can’t get away from the fact it’s cow’s breast milk, not to mention it tastes vile. I think it’s really bad for your health. YABU

Agree. It's gross.

Most adult humans would baulk at being offered, rat, cat, dog, or human milk. So why is it acceptable from a cow / sheep / goat?

Farmers impregnate cows, take their babies and steal the milk. Yuck.

Borborygmus · 05/05/2023 23:22

Sadly I'm old enough to remember school milk, which put me off it for life. But if you love it then drink it. I'm mystified how that could possibly be construed as weird or infantile, anybody who thinks that must be pretty weird themselves IMO.

Kaaplumff · 05/05/2023 23:25

I don't think drinking milk is weird, it's packed with nutrition! I drink almond milk because I feel bad for the cows but coorrr I do still love a chocolate nesquik milkshake and I'm in my 30s 😂

Mutabiliss · 05/05/2023 23:26

Love it, drink it a lot, and find it helps settle my stomach so can definitely digest it. It's delicious.

Of course it’s infantile, it’s designed for infants. It would be weird if an adult loved drinking formula or snacking on ella’s kitchen pouches too.

AnneLovesGilbert · 05/05/2023 23:37

Agatha Christie used to drink pints of cream which makes a glass of milk seem very healthy and restrained.

It’s not for me on its own. I was a vegan for a few years and it’s the only think I can’t go back to but I make smoothies with dairy and oat milk and like them equally.

rickandmorts · 05/05/2023 23:37

I'd drink rat milk if it was as yummy as cow milk @IchWill 😋. Doesn't bother me.

OP I also drink milk but my DP finds it gross and infantile 😂. I also love it when I'm hungover, not sure why but it satisfies that thirst craving more than water can. We've just started getting a milk delivery from a fancy breed of cow local to us And OMG it's so nice. Tastes better out a glass bottle too.

You'd not convince me I'm afraid!

Alaimo · 05/05/2023 23:44

Are you Dutch? Dutch adults love to drink milk. You can walk into any office cafeteria and probably find some senior manager or director having a sandwich and a glass of milk for lunch.

FrostyFifi · 05/05/2023 23:59

For the same reason I'd refuse to eat human steak or rat haunch, but gratefully eat a nice bit of beef or mutton I suppose?

Still weird.

caringcarer · 06/05/2023 00:06

When I was a kid and felt poorly and would not eat Mum brought me a glass of milk instead. If I'm feeling unwell as an adult all I want is milk (and my Mum back).

It satisfies the thirst because it is one of the most effective ways to rehydrate yourself. The ratios of fats to sugars, salts and water is balanced just right. So it actually rehydrates you better than just water alone.
