Which was their damage limitation number so when they lost 800 they could say 'we've not done as badly as we feared'.

AIBU to be cracking open the champagne while they try to figure out how the hell they can put a positive spin on this?

Well it’s given me a laugh, thank you

Really you should thank the Tory clown show.

Are they going to go back to Boris, to build back better, or perhaps to 30p as their next leader?

Rishi knows what a woman is, and like Boris what to do with them.

The great British public think this is really important and so will vote for them in their droves.

Doesn’t change the other issues going on though and they are knowingly using that to keep their votes, but they can only use that for so long.

Rishi is also sorting out the small boats problem. Soon those immigrants will know not to come to the UK.

We live in a "put a blue rosette on a wheelie bin and it'll win" area. Conservatives steal it every time. They won yesterday but by 14 votes only. I'm gutted but it does show a massive shift here. The labour candidate is the loveliest man who has done so much for the community. People know and love him and know nothing about the Conservative candidate. But they vote blue every time because that's where we live and what people do. But I have hope that things are changing. 14 votes dammit!

SidekickSylvia · 05/05/2023 20:50

No change where I am (conservative), but a low turnout.

roarfeckingroarr · 05/05/2023 20:50

Local elections after a long period of one party in government, especially when that party holds a lot of seats, tend to go this way.

I'm a Tory voter but on the fence this time. No elections in my area yesterday. I don't think the Tories will win next time but I don't think it will be a wipe out. Labour won't make things much better but we do need a change of govt.

That really shows how every single vote counts .

No they won't. Because it's not the most important thing on most peoples minds right now.

The safety of women and children has to be the most important thing.

TheHateIsNotGood · 05/05/2023 20:59

Go Greens!! They've done really well - Mid-Staffs is a Green-controlled Council fgs. Turnout as usual has been low, but maybe some of the younger voters are casting now. Not necessarily a Greener myself, but I recall it was the Ecology Party that set me to voting at 18. And the youngsters now are very environmentally aware.

PauseTheRain · 05/05/2023 21:00

Too many people have had enough of them and many are sick of the culture wars, corruption, self gain at any cost to the country, crappy behaviour and cruelty. People voted tactically as they just so desperately want this government to know they want them gone - including many who previously voted Tory. There is only so much moral injury people can take.

Do remember that Keir had a beer and has his own pension law.

Local elections are no bearing on general at all.

This . The turnout was also very low .

Does anyone care? UKIP's obsession with immigration didn't attract the votes either, they have gone to Labour in the south east and they have disappeared from British politics!

EllandRd · 05/05/2023 21:02

Wait for the GE, Tory scum will be wiped out.

OhmygodDont · 05/05/2023 21:03

Gained two seats off labour in my city so erm yeah.

Of course people care. They voted to leave the EU so that we could keep control of our borders and yet the French are still letting people come here in boats.

MakesMeFeelSad · 05/05/2023 21:06

I don't know how people can keep a straight face when they say at least the tories know what a women is

Last time I checked they were the ones in power, they don't seem to have done anything to stop this self ID shit .

ghostyslovesheets · 05/05/2023 21:06

DD voted for the first time yesterday (she got a polite round of applause at the polling station!) - our Tory council has gone to NOC - Tories lost 6 seat and UKIP 1 - all to Labour - including our ward.

Having a handsy sleaze of an MP help, plus a council determined to sell off any land to build as many 'executive 5 bed dethatched homes' in the middle of a housing crisis while not building new schools/GP surgeries/roads etc - it's good to see change

OhmygodDont · 05/05/2023 21:06

I voted independent. He seemed like a lovely chap. Only one actually out doing the work himself who’s here all year round.

Strong and stable like Theresa May....that was her thing wasn't it? Worked out well.

Strong and stable as a three-legged table!

mewkins · 05/05/2023 21:07

We've gone very green here....the first time Tories have lost their hold since 1995. And the seat in my ward it's a landslide victory. If the Tories can be ousted here, anything is possible.

wiffin · 05/05/2023 21:08

Sirzy · 05/05/2023 19:51

January 2025 is the latest it can be

Ffs. Hopefully they won't do that. They want good weather for a good turn out. Especially for the olds.

The Tories may well have previously been captured, but at least they now say they know what a woman is for.
