Which was their damage limitation number so when they lost 800 they could say 'we've not done as badly as we feared'.

AIBU to be cracking open the champagne while they try to figure out how the hell they can put a positive spin on this?

Definitely not unreasonable. They couldn't lose badly enough IMO. They are well past their sell by date.

But didn't you expect them to lose in these huge numbers? I can't believe people thought they wouldn't.

700/800/900 yes. But even the Tories didn’t see it being this bad or they would never have given the 1000 figure.

I’d guess they hadn’t figured in the tactical voting sites.

The Tories will win the next General election, they got Brexit done.
Keir dull will never be the people's choice to be Prime Minister. Why didn't the police arrest him for having a beer - a beer he was only having to appear to be cool.

Yes, dear.

Luckily at my last election my Labour London borough changed to Tory (a rare recent victory for us Tories, thanks in part to local hindus I believe to whom I will always be grateful). Local council here is already much improved.

Vote Conservative.

Vote Conservative

Why?

I am delighted to see that the Toires appear to have learnt nothing.

@jgw1 …Generally people do tend to vote for the council that they would vote for in a GE ,otherwise why do the councils affiliate with political parties?

JaneyGee · 05/05/2023 20:25

Well, the left now have control of publishing, the universities, the libraries, the schools, the arts, and the BBC, so they might as well have control of local and national government as well.

Always4Brenner · 05/05/2023 20:27

Delighted as results come through on twitter.

Oldsu · 05/05/2023 20:27

I just think that the new Labour councillors will do nothing different to the Tory ones and when peoples lives are not totally turned round they will just shrug their shoulders mention their funding comes from the government so it will still be the fault of the Tories

Oh, bless you! It’s the hope that kills you…

MrsHerculePoirot · 05/05/2023 20:30

I saw someone say losing 1000 seats is the first promise the tories have kept 🤣

BananaSpanner · 05/05/2023 19:48

Not in my area. They’ve bloody gained.

Do you live in Torbay - Tory’s gained votes there

TooBigForMyBoots · 05/05/2023 20:30

It has been catastrophic for the Tories. I wonder if they'll get rid of Rishi, they don't tolerate losers.

dapsnotplimsolls · 05/05/2023 20:32

Blimey, the Torybots are busy tonight!

jgw1 · 05/05/2023 20:34

dapsnotplimsolls · 05/05/2023 20:21

Yes, dear.

Oh they will.

People don't want But Jeremy Corbyn back.

MNbingo · 05/05/2023 20:34

Wait til the general.. 😂 nobody wants that prick Starmer

Fififafa · 05/05/2023 20:35

Absolutely loving it. They really thought they’d suffer fewer than 1000 losses, so they were happily saying that they expected to lose 1000, hoping for much less. Looks like the electorate didn’t play ball😂.

noblegiraffe · 05/05/2023 20:35

I see some people have voted that IABU.

I guess that's yet another vote count you've lost then. 🥂

Are you saying that Richard Sharp is of the left?

Rishi knows what a woman is, and like Boris what to do with them.

The great British public think this is really important and so will vote for them in their droves.

WestSouthWest · 05/05/2023 20:40

Significant gains for the Greens here and Conservatives have lost several seats. I live in a very conservative area and people here are fed up of them.

The next year will show that Rishi is a strong and stable leader and just the person that we need to lead us out of the current crisis.

noblegiraffe · 05/05/2023 20:42

Strong and stable like Theresa May....that was her thing wasn't it? Worked out well.
