Which was their damage limitation number so when they lost 800 they could say 'we've not done as badly as we feared'.

AIBU to be cracking open the champagne while they try to figure out how the hell they can put a positive spin on this?

Just another example of the problems caused by letting so many migrants in.

The migrants that are unable to vote? Yeah, that’ll be the reason.

As I said, I think you’re funny! Thanks for making me laugh tonight!

Well we all need cheering up after the left wing media captured peoples minds and made them vote yesterday.

IForgotMyUsernameAgain · 05/05/2023 21:31

I wonder how many of the "independent" candidates are actually Tory.

In my town, there were no Tory candidates. But there were four candidates who all had identical leaflets identifying themselves as "independent".

One was a current Tory councillor. One was a former Tory councillor. One has previously stood as a Tory. Only the 4th was unknown.

Was pleased to see their tactic didn't work and they didn't get elected at least.

JGW is like a really rubbish, drunk chat bot.

To be fair the left wing media also made everyone vote for Brexit, which nobody thinks is a good idea anymore, so grrrr left wing media Wink

Oh, you misunderstand. I was already in a tip top mood at the Tory massacre. You’ve just been a mere cherry.

Lovely stuff, this here local election malarkey!

I find it quite depressing that so many (I assume) women are quaffing their champagne & heralding the new era of the erasure of womanhood. Not a Tory voter, but won't give either Labour nor Lib dem my votes and what this would mean for my daughters.

I think you are jealous that you are simply not as successful as Boris.

Dammit, you found me out.

ALongHardWinter · 05/05/2023 21:38

Excellent news!

Very kind of you to say so.

I was just trying out some lines for CCHQ as their regular posters seem to be absent today. Just seeing which of the usual lines will play best.

I think we will settle on Keir is so dull he had a beer and no one else was there so wasn't at a party.

Mine was prosecco since you ask.

Rishi knows what a woman is, and like Boris what to do with them.

The great British public think this is really important and so will vote for them in their droves.

I absolutely cannot believe my eyes at this - and the fact that such an offensive, misogynistic and rapey comment has been allowed to stand here! Regardless of your politics, how dare you?!

Dymaxion · 05/05/2023 21:42

I think you need to add the Greens to your list too ? Then have a little look at who has had a stonking majority whilst in Government and decide if the Conservatives are legislating favourably for women ?

That doesn't mean it's some kind of conspiracy. I used to vote Tory until Brexit upset me so much I vowed never again. Maybe these Torys-now-independents are also disillusioned with what the Tory party has become. I think there were some great Torys, but lots of them left/were ousted. Like Heidi Allen.

I think deciding not to vote Labour based solely on GC issues is the preserve of the privileged. I'm not saying it's not important, but when there's more food banks in the country than mcdonalds most people choose to look at the bigger picture.

CheesecakeAddict · 05/05/2023 21:44

Tories won again here too but there's been a definite shift. It's usually a strong Conservative hold, but in a town of 28,000 residents, only 4,000 votes were counted. Conservatives only beat Labour by about 100 votes. There's definitely been a lot more apathy towards the elections around here with lots of people not voting because they don't know what Labour stands for and they know they don't want Conservative

WhiteFire · 05/05/2023 21:44

They will focus on the areas where they have made gains and the councils where they now have the majority, even if it is a no overall majority.

Our independents got in, independent does not mean good.

Boomboom22 · 05/05/2023 21:45

Do people really not know jgw is being sarcastic? She is full on labour. Hates the tories and is taking the piss out of mn feminism.
Must be a lot of new posters around today!

I am really touched that you enjoyed my comment so much.

Have you missed the endless threads about how we should vote Tory because they know what a woman is?

In the absence of our usual Tory fans, I thought I ought to provide a little balance, by trotting out some of their favourite lines.

I was a little confused, but I am full of cold and nothing makes sense.

The public are so fickle. What happened to the Tory mania of 2019?

I can't believe that @EmmatheStageRat thinks that Rishi and Boris are rapey, I don't think there is any evidence to suggest that ? and isn't what jgw1 was alluding to ?

@Dymaxion you don’t need to continue, you win. By the way, I didn’t vote Labour (for the first time in 30 years.) Oh, and I won’t any time soon.
