How would you split this?

helbel34 · 05/05/2023 18:57

Theme park short break, 2 families sharing the same accommodation.

Family 1, 2 adults 1 child 11 year old.

Family 2, 2 adults 2 children 11 year old and 3 year old.

Tickets for the park included within the accommodation price. 4 adults and 2 children, 3 year olds goes free

How would you split the cost?

50/50 as 3 year old is free and bedrooms split evenly.

towriteyoumustlive · 05/05/2023 19:21

50/50 is logical because you get 1.5 rooms each and the 3 year old is free in the park.

Splitting it 7 ways would only make sense if one of you was getting a much nicer room than the other couple e.g. an ensuite room.

DevonPink · 05/05/2023 19:23

50/50

LadyOfTheCanyon · 05/05/2023 19:27

Well of course they want to split 7 ways as it's marginally cheaper for them. Cheeky fuckers.

It should be split by rooms - you've got Your toddler in with you and she's costing nothing.

Make sure you have a kitty for food or they'll do you over on that front as well!

wherethecityis · 05/05/2023 19:29

Absolutely 50:50 then. I can’t see how anyone would think otherwise in this case

Hankunamatata · 05/05/2023 19:31

50:50. 3 year old is free and staying in parents room

Coronationstation · 05/05/2023 19:33

I agree 50/50 because the 3yr old isn’t costing anything extra if they’re sharing their parents room.

QuickNameChangeForMeToday · 05/05/2023 19:37

Absolutely 50/50. We are usually the family of 3 now (older DC adults)and friends are family of 4. We insist on 50/50 for meals out etc as it’s just plain decent. What’s one extra child!

Louoby · 05/05/2023 19:37

50/50

Snowpatrolling · 05/05/2023 19:41

Me and my friend go away every year, we also go out for dinners etc, we always just split the bill 50/50

HauntedPencil · 05/05/2023 19:42

50/50 as the 3 yo isn't having a room or paying for the theme park. Definitely!

Bunnichick · 05/05/2023 19:42

They sound grabby. Was it by text?

id just say "As we are sharing the rooms equally and 3 yo is fee I think 50/50 is fair?"

DisforDarkChocolate · 05/05/2023 19:43

50/50. The 3-year-old isn't costing anything.

Thanks for everyone's responses, I'm in family 2 and have booked this break. Family 1 were under the impression that the accommodation would be split 7 ways as the number of people travelling. I was thinking 50/50 per family.

I would be firm and say no, that's very cheeky.

viques · 05/05/2023 19:44

I think this is the easiest “how would you split the cost” post I have ever seen!

50/50.

No not a text, she came to see me and asked how much was left to be paid. When I worked it out she said oh remember that there are 4 of you and only 3 of us.

I had at the time of booking told her that 3 and under go free.

She actually seemed a bit put out when I said so it would be 50/50 as we are paying for 3 people each.

Say that, if they want you to pay for the 3 year old, their daughter will have to sleep in their room for half of the break, so that you can have some child-free time too.

Orders76 · 05/05/2023 19:50

3 year old is free so no share to pay.
6 people left, 3 in each family.... Very clearly 50/50

Merryoldgoat · 05/05/2023 19:52

50/50 for sure.

Stuf · 05/05/2023 19:54

50/50

SequinsandStilettos · 05/05/2023 20:03

50-50
If they insist on a 4-3 split then what chickbean said
They'll be scrutinising all restaurant bills, won't they?

This is what I'm now thinking 🤔 wish we were going alone now.

How on earth can they expect it to be anything other then a 50/50 split!? Make sure you get separate checks for everything else! I like the suggestion of suggesting their 11yo sleep with them for half the week if they try insist you split it per person

putalidonit · 05/05/2023 20:16

Is your room massive to accommodate your 3 year old and theirs small? Otherwise I can't fathom it

Okunevo · 05/05/2023 20:18

helbel34 · 05/05/2023 19:06

It is a 3 bedroom lodge.

Bedroom for each couple 2 11 year old girls share and 3 year old share with parents.

50/50 then
