I know I should post in the litter tray but I’m desperate for advice or reassurance

much loved cat started making a low moaning miaow this morning like he was in agony. Panting and drooling slightly

took him to the vet and he’s still there. They’ve x rated him and there is a lot of white density in his chest

they are going to ultrasound in the morning. They don’t know what it is maybe fluid or blood. He didn’t have any signs of trauma

I know no one can know and I have to wait till the morning but I’m in bits and just wondered if it could be anything not too terrible and if he’s going to be ok

i realise as I type this it’s a ridiculous question and I have to wait but just hoping someone can magically say “oh it might be xx he will be fine”

I no know one can I’m just so upset. I love him so much 😞

Bloodynitpickingpixie · 04/05/2023 18:27

Oh lovely-so sorry you have this worry. I hope he will be okay Flowers

DRS1970 · 04/05/2023 18:28

*x-rayed 🙂

PinkFootstool · 04/05/2023 18:29

I'm sorry OP, that's worrying and I understand your fears. I'm not sure anyone can properly reassure you as you need the test results. Have they done bloods etc today?

catgirl1976 · 04/05/2023 18:34

Thank you all

No they haven’t done bloods I don’t know why. At lunchtime they thought he might be able to come tonight as he breathing was slowing (was over twice as fast as it should be) but then about half five they called to say it hadn’t gone below 40 breaths per minute so they had x rayed him and found this white density.

I guess I just have to wait for the ultrasound tomorrow and pray it’s an infection or something they can treat. I know he’s “just” a cat but he isn’t to me

I'm so sorry about your cat. Years ago my cat had similar and she had pleurisy so her lungs had filled with fluid. She did have a heart murmur too. She had an overnight stay at the vets on oxygen. She did recover and came home for a good few months.

It was very scary, I hooe you're OK x

catgirl1976 · 04/05/2023 18:39

Thank you @VenusStarr thats reassuring that it could maybe be something like that

im glad your girl recovered x

There is no such thing as "just a cat". Pets are family.

We probably spend more time with some pets than with our friends or family!! I had my puss for 16yrs and for a lot of that it was just me and her together - no boyfriend, living alone etc. That cat got me through a lot of tough times and several bouts of depression.

Your cat is your friend and returns your love in so many ways. I totally understand.

Whiskeypowers · 04/05/2023 18:47

Never just a cat. They are part of our families
hope tomorrow beings good news. I’ve been there waiting anxiously overnight whilst one of mine has been kept in the vets. It’s really upsetting

keeping fingers crossed for you and your cat 💖

catgirl1976 · 04/05/2023 18:48

@PinkFootstool they really are family. I’ve had and loved cats before Otto something else. He’s so special. My son is 11 and had him since he was 5 he’s devastated 😞

OP posts:
catgirl1976 · 04/05/2023 18:48

Bit Otto is something else that should say. I’m not doing well with typing

OP posts:
catgirl1976 · 04/05/2023 18:49

oh god… BUT Otto is something else. Third time lucky

OP posts:
mbosnz · 04/05/2023 18:55

I'm not a vet, but I'm wondering if they haven't done bloods because Otto was so distressed already, they were worried adding more stress (it's not an insignificant procedure with a cat as I understand it), could cause more harm than help?

You are doing everything you can for Otto. It sounds like the vets are very caring and competent. Hold on to hope!

catgirl1976 · 04/05/2023 19:01

Thank you @mbosnz

im going to have a bath and a good cry where DS won’t see me. And then just pray to the cat gods that he’s ok and I get some good news in the morning

Medjuel · 04/05/2023 19:14

Wishing you and Otto all the best, it's horrible when they get sick, I have no advice other than to hang on in there and know that we are thinking of you, holding your paw/hand. Please update when you have news 🐱

catgirl1976 · 04/05/2023 19:30

Thank you @Medjuel

ill update tomorrow. Hopefully with some positive news.

This is my handsome boy

TheShellBeach · 04/05/2023 20:45

Otto's lovely!
I hope you get good news tomorrow.

QuestionableMouse · 04/05/2023 20:59

Black cats are the best!

My dog went through something similar a few years ago. Crying, lots of bloody poo, very unwell. He had a course of hefty antibiotics and made a full recovery.

catgirl1976 · 04/05/2023 21:05

Thanks everyone. I’m just praying for good news and trying not to cry too much in front of DS.

catgirl1976 · 04/05/2023 21:05

Very similar story to share here - 19-year-old cat was rushed to the vet in a similar state to Otto, lungs were filled with fluid as the result of an undiagnosed heart condition. She went onto diuretic medication and lived another five years (yes - to the age of 24!).

Sending much love from one black cat owner to another and will be crossing everything for you and your boy x
